"The expense of that component is a key reason iPhone X pricing starts at $1,000 and sales haven’t met initial expectations." The meme that will not die!

I have come to appreciate Wall Street underestimating Apple -- holding Apple to a higher standard than others. It affords an opportunity for us to accumulate and for Apple to retire as many shares as possible at a reasonable price.

F Samesung. I doubt they even make money on phones when you consider R&D and their in-house fab costs and marketing. So I was reading this article about how the Fed's bond maturations tank the S&P for a day. The next maturation, >$30B, happens over the weekend. It will be interesting to see if Monday is a down market day. Plus AAPL call walls at 187 and 190... BTFD!

I'll express my extremely limited knowledge of this.
Who owns the shares Apple buys back?
I assume that if only 5 shares were left, these 5 shareholders would own the whole company.

no one.
share are not available for the market. Number of share issued is getting lower
Apple could still put them back in the market in the future, but for now they are out of the market.

I'll express my extremely limited knowledge of this. Who owns the shares Apple buys back? The company either retires the repurchased shares or keeps them as treasury stock, available for re-issuance. Correct. And, of course, since Mr Market refuses to properly value AAPL shares, each of those 5 shares will be worth $187.23. I intend to own all 5. My quarterly dividend will be billions…

My quarterly dividend will be billions… not quite, coz I ain't selling having said that what share count will they realistically reduce to? I'm thinking 4B is about the limit. After that it will become prohibitively expensive to buy back. (unless deasys is on the money with his call of 5 shares @ $187.23..... but then there's no way I'm selling at that price!)
