Buried in the Bloomberg article:
“The iPhone X wasn’t as big a hit as some Wall Street analysts hoped for before it was released last November. However, it still sold strongly and helped Apple gain share in a smartphone market that has almost stopped growing.”
That first sentence is patently false. Why does this nonsense about iPhoneX sales continue to get dragged out in articles like this? (I suspect there’s money involved from Apple competitors)

I would also quibble with the wording of the Bloomberg article. Saying [the iPhone X] still sold strongly and helped Apple gain share in a smartphone market that has almost stopped growing is a bit of an understatement. Chalk it up to 'fake news'.
However, before iPhone X was released there was much talk, even here, about a 'super cycle' that didn't quite materialize. Of course super cycle was not consistently defined.
IMHO, slow and steady wins the race.

I cannot remember the last time AAPL had this much momentum going into “New iPhones” season. Unless they are a major disappointment, we should all be very happy by 2019.

“The new iPhone lineup has presented Apple with a naming conundrum, according to a person familiar with the deliberations. The company will be selling three phones that look similar and all have Face ID. But the cheapest model will be larger than the mid-range version, potentially confusing consumers. While planning the new devices, Apple has altered the names multiple times. It has at least considered branding the new premium phones the "iPhone Xs," indicating that they’re an upgrade to last year’s iPhone X, the person said. The company has also weighed eschewing the "Plus" label for the larger model, which it has used since the iPhone 6 Plus launched with a larger screen in 2014. The final names could be different, the person noted.” UGH!! I really hope that they don’t go with “Xs.” It has been bad enough hearing “iPhone Ex” for the past year.

A surprisingly clear(ish) two-year look into Apple's Wearables Business. Information courtesy Apple's intentional hint-dropping for each of the past four earnings calls. apple.news/A7i4bACl3Qp2QkzQ8T9Btnw

iPhone - the bigger, cheaper, similar-to-iPhone-X-looking one (The Old) iPhone X (The New) iPhone X (with some new tentpole feature everyone will be talking about)
I guess

I saw that article and almost posted it, but I every time I think of Gassée, I remember that he cost Apple Steve Jobs once, and almost cost us Jobs 2.0. Apple would certainly be a much different company, and we'd surely be a lot poorer right now, had Gassée become Apple's CEO in 1997. We didn't just dodge a bullet, we dodged a nuke.
And yeah, what a problem to have, OMG Apple doesn't know what to name a product that it will sell a million a day of in Q4.

Article regarding the momentum of the cash generation and return: seekingalpha.com/article/4202312-apple-still-cheap-1-trillion?page=5Apple remains on pace for a 10% net payout yield. Due to huge free cash flows in the December quarter, the tech giant will hardly reduce cash balances in the 2H at the $25 billion quarterly capital return pace.

And yeah, what a problem to have, OMG Apple doesn't know what to name a product that it will sell a million a day of in Q4. That's right - because everyone said, Apple was going to buy Be and use BeOS. (flashy demos!) Wikipedia ArticleThe key item is in the first History paragraph, and I quote (while trying to keep a straight face; or is it an ashen face): "Initially designed to run on AT&T Hobbit-based hardware, BeOS was later modified to run on PowerPC-based processors: first Be's own systems, later Apple Inc.'s PowerPC Reference Platform and Common Hardware Reference Platform, with the hope that Apple would purchase or license BeOS as a replacement for its aging Classic Mac OS.[4] Apple CEO Gil Amelio started negotiations to buy Be Inc., but negotiations stalled when Be CEO Jean-Louis Gassée wanted $300 million;[5] Apple was unwilling to offer any more than $125 million. Apple's board of directors decided NeXTSTEP was a better choice and purchased NeXT in 1996 for $429 million, bringing back Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.[6]" I think the NeXT acquisition was at or around $375 million. Compared to the eventual rebirth of Apple it's growth, value created and unlocked, that came fro NeXT (+Steve), that may well have been one of the most significant corporate acquisitions - ever. That's the part where I'm trying to keep a straight face (gleeful), because that's what happened. If Apple bought and went with Be, instead of NeXT? That would have been the ashen face. Not that we'd have known what we missed, because none of this would have happened, and we'd also still be carrying pocket calculators; using exotic flip phones, some with chicklet keys; there would still be arguments about whether touchscreens are useful and what kind of interface could you do with them. Computers would still be rectangular boxes with fans, running Windows. There would be no Mac OS. Laptops would be 3" thick and weight 3X as much. Someone would still be trying to invent WiFi, but there would be doubts as to necessity. Digital music players would still be in their infancy today. They would be thick hard-cornered box shapes, colored brown, like a turd, and might have a product name starting with a "Z". All digital music would be copy protected and playable only on a single turd, errrr, device. But that wouldn't matter because most consumers would still be carrying around portable CD players and would frequently stop in to physical CD stores, which would still be numerous and stocked to the ceilings with discs. Discs would still be prevalent, as Microsoft (the only operating system vendor that survived) would still be delivering Windows updates that way, at $175/pop. 3rd party developers would also be using discs as their primary distribution method in physical storefronts. Apple buying Be, instead of Next, would be like "It's A Wonderful Life" - the hypothetical Potter world - if George Bailey had never been born.

iPhone - the bigger, cheaper, similar-to-iPhone-X-looking one (The Old) iPhone X (The New) iPhone X (with some new tentpole feature everyone will be talking about) I guess Why is it that these articles always seem to use the word "cheaper" when describing Apple products sold at lower prices? The same authors, I think, would use a different description - "less expensive", or "more affordable" when and if they were describing Samsung and other "competitive" devices. "Cheaper" implies "cheap" implies "crummy". Negative connotation. "Less expensive", "more affordable" implies devices that are just-as-capable, just-as-nice, as other products that cost much more. Positive connotation.

A couple of us are getting together the week of October 8 in North Conway, New Hampshire. With any luck the foliage will be at its peak. Please join us. PM me for details and suggestions on travel. With any *luck*? Travel and Leisure lists North Conway among The Best Places to See Fall Foliage in the United States=== North Conway, New HampshireTucked within the White Mountain National Forest is the Kancamagus Highway, more than 26 miles of roadway for leaf peepers to enjoy the beautiful vistas in early October. When you’re not hiking, biking, skiing and rock climbing, retreat to one of the area’s cozy inns.
=== It sounds like a pretty safe bet to me...but let's just stick to the hiking and forgo the rock climbing.

Winding down the festivities from celebrating the baptism of my firstborn, and I think I’m all caught up with the stuff going on in the last few months.
Just to be clear though, the efforts to contact lovemyiPad have not paid off, correct?
And the majority of those voicing their opinion is to stay on proboards but using a new forum, while keeping aaplfinance as a historical record? If there’s still any debate, I guess I’m voting for this option.
Anyway, cheers to the longs, all time high, wheeeee!, and all that. I didn’t really think this boost to new heights would come about in a summer quarter.
