Good morning. I’m out in the woods, so won’t provide any news or links, but wanted to get this party started on an auspicious ATH Monday. Cheers, longs!

It looks like AAPL is slowly pushing out of the hard top limit of a 20 P/E, hitting 21 last year, and sneaking above it right now. It's not the best value to compare since it's based on trailing earnings, but when you start putting too much emphasis on predicted earnings, you get into trouble when analysts and the public start getting a little too hopped up on frothiness.
That said, part of the push out of the range is due to expectations, part the economy as a whole (rising tide), and part the change in mix of revenue/earnings. It's good to see AAPL getting out of the range of big oil, and I'll be happy to not see sub-10 for a long long time.
Where do you see the P/E going, realistically? Sure, I'd love to see it right now jump on up to the 50-60 range of yesteryear, but that's just not going to happen. But does it push to 25-26 over the next 1-2 years? What do you foresee?

What do you foresee? i'll tell you thursday after market digests earnings and guidance (and probably an even better 'tell' after january earnings... which will either validate guidance, or cause a negative surprise like last year)
it was a great buying opportunity (biggest one ever for some us...) but it it might come again in the future... i wouldn't buy aggressively here even if earnings are stellar

Nice to have AAPL continuing to set new highs.
I'm hopeful that earnings and guidance will justify the current valuation and above, but will be considering selling off a few more shares beforehand that I would like to sell this year. Risk/reward, and all of that. But holding them for this past $6+ since selling the first small batch has been profitable.
For those that care and find these numbers sometimes matter, Yahoo has the P/E at 21.15, and sharpcharts has the RSI at 78.50. These are both high, but that doesn't mean they are a stopping point, though it is more likely that AAPL is at the higher end of it's range. But with earnings coming out in 2 days, it's all about earnings/guidance.
Thanks AAPL!

I think Apple will sell a lot of Airpods. I bought a pair to replace my first-generation Airpods, my nephew bought a pair for himself and one for his dad. Thinking about buying them for my son to replace his first-generation Airpods

I see Apple starting to look a lot like Microsoft. They are pretty consistent with a p/e 23 to 28. I easily could see aapl settling into a standard 23 to 26 pe. I would get nervous above 25 though. 23 p/e with future cash generation and buybacks could easily see us at 325 plus in a couple of years. The naysayers will pounce on any setbacks and this price drop will be a lot deeper than a stock used to a 25 p/e. Moderate dividend increase might help that though.

I think the report and guidance will be good, although you never know if the stock will sell off on the news, no matter how good. In an attempt to take off some risk ahead of the report, I sold some medium term options (April 2020) and used the proceeds to buy more stock and keep a little cash on the side in case of a quick sell off after the numbers are announced. I’d rather AAPL go into earnings a bit flatter, but I’ll take the ATH’s when we can get them!

I'm at an Xfinity and the rep is very adamant that iPhone 11 sales have been far higher than all models the same time last year.

Personally, I give PE zero weight. I don't think 1 out of 100 investors looks at PE. Chipotle's is 62 and they sell friggin' burritos. Stock prices are about sentiment and momentum, and of course, beating the dart throwers guesstimates every 90-days. Speaking of which, all the marbles on Wednesday!

Stock prices are about sentiment and momentum, and of course, beating the dart throwers guesstimates every 90-days. IMO you have to have some way to evaluate a stock, both from your perspective and the market as a whole, to know when you should add vs when you should trim. There's lots out there that seem to be skewed. Having AAPL knocked down a few times has made me gun shy of those lofty P/E's, but the momentum players don't care much. But part of that is a market cap and age thing. There's a lot less crazy high P/E's out there in companies that have been public at least 10 years, and have a market cap of at least $50B. Chipotle, LULU, and UA are all under that mark. There's plenty that are still high, like Netflix, but that's like driving around without a seatbelt. Odds are that something is going to happen at some point, and it might not be your fault. At 80mph, or 150 head on, are you going to take that chance? Are you feeling lucky? I'd like to see AAPL lock on in to MSFT's range, and feel that's more than justified but will help as earnings/revenue more consistently come from a variety of products. AAPL might make it there quicker if it throws in a few corporate aimed things, like specific services. Even locking HW into a cycle could be beneficial. Sometimes I would like it if Apple weren't in such polarized markets. Instead of being the Ford vs Chevy, be the Tesla vs no one. Or Netflix? Amazon? Google? It's not in all their markets anymore, but generally they all have that going for them, with a strong brand loyalty, and not really a polarizing competition. OTOH, like you (JD) pointed out the other day, Apple has some markets where they don't have a monopoly, and yet nearly have a monopoly on the earnings from the segment. That's a nice place to be, and while you can see it across many markets, Apple does it better than most. As a user and sometimes even as a shareholder, I'd like to see Apple sell more units at times, especially at the mid and even low end levels where they could take some serious marketshare without a huge downside. But as a shareholder, they do manage to take so much of high end that it is ridiculous, while also giving many affordably luxury or stretch items that people still buy up, while giving good profit margins. I'd like to see Apple attack the PC market with power, aiming to bring the marketshare to similar marks as with smartphones while they have a great line into at least one of your pockets. And I could see Steve or Guy Kawasaki doing this, from the powerful position. But I can't complain too much about how Apple has done.

You know how sometimes you go to a site and there are all sorts of links, and you just have to open a bunch of them, and then slowly make your way through them? That happened this evening to me, with imore.com, incidentally when I was trying to go to imdb.com and decided to see where Siri or my history wanted to send me. There were lots of iPhone reviews, mainly for the camera, including picture taking at Disneyland, comparing an 11 Pro to a $7500 Canon DSLR (spoiler: they were damn close), how to take great pictures on the 11, and the 11 in general. This review of the iPhone 11 seemed pretty good, though I started skimming it after just reading too much. But it even mentioned the light artifacts I noticed in night mode, while saying they heard it's something Apple is fixing. www.imore.com/iphone-11-reviewThey keep getting better and better!
