Motley Fool has An iPhone Subscription Could Be Huge for Apple's Services Business. My most recent purchase was the first time that I traded in my old phone (iPhone X). When buying my first one, I thought it would become a collector’s item (which I never did anything to reap the possible benefits of, of course), and mindlessly continued that approach through the years.

How much was the X worth? We sent in some of ours years ago, maybe the 4S, I think through a program on Amazon. It wasn't as easy as having it in a store, and the value lowered once they saw them, which is a downside. Still, at that time I think there were still subsidies, and we got back a little more than the "down payment", so maybe an average of $250 each. Like anything, it should be beneficial for you to sell it yourself. But the difference should be a lot smaller than some things (ie a used car), and probably worth it. OTOH, we're in the timeframe of wanting to keep several iPhones around for the kids, and one as a backup. They might choose to pay their half of the price for an iPhone SE, but they have the option of using an older one that is decent but not great. Cars are a whole different story...

How much was the X worth? $400, which I thought was a great deal. It was in excellent shape, having always had a case around it, but still…
