I wonder if the next iPhone will have dual cameras to be able to handle spacial photos or spacial videos. I can see that, or a 3rd party attachment to allow that. Something like this would be far better than expecting people to wear that VisionPro all the time to create those videos.

That could make sense, but I don't think Apple should make it built into the iPhone by default. I know there have been a lot of things on making 3d movies and such, going all the way back to making 3d photos. I don't remember the details offhand, but I'd expect that the cameras needed to be roughly eye width apart to get the right content. With the iPhone dimensions that would be possible, but only if holding the iPhone sideways. OTOH, we hold it sideways all the time to get a landscape view, so maybe it isn't a big deal. I guess one side would be "why put it in before things go mainstream", whereas the other is "Hey, you can help make it mainstream, plus it's a constant marketing reminder just having the extra camera there, all for maybe $20-50 extra per iPhone Pro". Ah, the places we will go.

Until otherwise shown this new gadget will be used for games. The gamer set likes imaginary worlds with imaginary wars. Call of Booty in 3D or whatever you call this will be huge. I just can't see anyone sitting with 3 friends with gadgets on watching "movies" together or "tv". I would not feel safe or comfortable with this on my head and for those with migraines or epilepsy that direct of stimulation could have consequences. You can't look away, like on TV or the computer when nauseating videos are on you can just shift your eyes.
All in all to me this is I will believe when i see it. Specialized applications like Drone bombers satellite spying might help focus, so build one for the defense industry and charge 25,000 for it. Color me not impressed though I have yet to try one. So my first impression could be way off.

As long as I can claim (at least on AFB) that it was my idea.

I think that Tim channels through at least one person on this board.

I still maintain, this thing is unnatural to wear communicating with other people, weird to look at, and a nuisance to take on and off. A "use case" for ordinary people is hard to come up with.
PS. But I sure would like to be wrong !
PPS. I appreciate the special use cases (certainly games, possibly the military and others areas) mentioned by others.

Also it could be a great training simulator.

Minor miracle. Or maybe market push indication. After watching the Apple event, and reading about the new device, my son just picked up his oculus quest, recharged it, updated software, and is USING IT!!!!! After many months of not touching it at all.
EDIT: Half an hour later he put it down and is doing something else instead.

I can see the new iOS 17 check-in feature extending to the satellite SOS feature of the iPhone 14 Pro when hiking out of cellular service coverage. Garmin offers a service along with a $300. Garmin inReach Messenger device. Apple could make buying this [functionality as an Apple] service both easy and affordable. (iPhone 15 may have reduced power requirements.)
How does iOS 17 Check In feature work? With iOS 17 Check In feature, users simply initiate the feature when commencing their travels. Whether it's an early morning jog or a post-celebration stroll, activating iOS 17 Check In feature sets the gears in motion.
Once the iPhone user reaches their intended destination, a notification is promptly sent to their designated contacts, signifying a successful arrival. This real-time communication ensures loved ones are promptly informed, alleviating any concerns they may have had during the waiting period.

Also it could be a great training simulator. Earlier today I looked at the hardened for military HoloLens 2 ($3500. consumer price). Purchases have been paused, because troops were getting disoriented. I don't see Apple building for the military, but I can see a defense contractor buying 1000's of the Vision Pros and charging an extra $6000./ea. for ruggedized straps and a special night vision emitter. www.microsoft.com/en-us/d/hololens-2/91pnzzznzwcp?activetab=pivot:techspecstab

After using a 5K Mac, since forever, 4K just isn't enough realestate. I have a 4K display attached to the 5K, but only for palettes associated with the software I'm using at the time (Vectorworks/Affinity/Pixelmator/Rhino...). I'm guessing this won't be an issue with Vision Pro as just move your head/gaze to reveal whatever information you need. I probably spent more on my Mac and second display than what Vision Pro cost. If the software can catch up and operate in an augmented mode... I'm in.

The problem would be false positives, of times where someone stays out longer than expected, and then doesn't hear a warning that an alert is about to be sent. This sorta happened a few weeks ago. I went out to check on a bridge we built on a trail last fall, a mile in. It was still so deep in snow, I couldn't see it at all. And so I kept on hiking, walking all the way to the ski resort (3.5 miles in) to check for downed trees that I could see, then coming back, taking a side route through some other trails I didn't know as well, then overshooting on the uphill, until I looked at Strava and got back on the "path". Instead of 2-3 miles I went 7-8, in slow conditions. At some point my wife texted "are you ok?", since she couldn't reach me by phone, and my location wasn't updating. This all worked out fine, even if I was a little tired. But sometimes these things happen, where you get playing in the wilderness, and just stay out there a lot longer than expected. Most people that stay on trails are fine. Today I was with 6 others deciding where to place a new trail, in up to 6' of brush. That's a whole different situation, but we all made it out fine. ...but an auto message after repeated misses, plus a ping trail, I believe would put it similar to other offerings out there. Apple could do it end to end for all use cases, or hit the main ones and lets 3rd parties develop other solutions. But there is an interest and use cases.

Then the Apple watch could monitor the bombardiers for PTSD! Win win for Apple.
