I just saw a Barron's article posted on Yahoo. (not linking). The author was going on about how Apple needs an AI plan. To me, it's just a lazy author that can't see past the current flashy headlines to realize a company like Apple doesn't jump on the latest bandwagon.
I decided to look up the author and see if he also wrote an article about Apple having to get in to the NetBook market. Sure enough, he quoted (back in 2010) someone else that said:
Where is the NetBook market again?

Being wrong, but with the right headline seems to be rewarded too.

To rain on everybody’s parade here let me point out that the iPad is Apple’s “netbook.” Marshall got it exactly right and Apple followed exactly what he suggested. The main complaint about the iPad is that it is essentially a crippled Macbook notebook. The reason why the iPad still has a shitty file system is so as not to cannibalize the MacBook market.

Sorry, the iPad was already out at the time of the Article. If I recall correctly, the analysts were calling for a small laptop, smaller and cheaper than the Air to compete with the $300 netBooks from Dell and the likes. They didn't see the iPad as being in the same market. If they had their way, Macs would be running Windows, and iPhones would use Android. Because they can't see something beyond what's currently available to them, they can't imagine anyone else can either. Lazy work, but gets the hits, and the pay.

As long as the Semiconductor rally lasts around this new idea of the goggles etc. SOXL is worth speculating on. It is riding the overbought line but strong uptrends sometimes do. Apple seemed to have kicked this off, maybe Nvidia actually, but with lots of money on the sidelines this is the hot new thing.

Nice to see AAPL pushing upwards, just a long and consistent push, though on pretty low volume.
It's strange that all of these commentators that are talking of Meta's and Musk's criticism are giving the party line of "all the vision pro users are sitting on the couch, alone". I thought the part of the guy cooking dinner, kicking the soccer ball to his daughter, and giving a breakfast plate was a bit contrived, but it made an attempt at showing that this couple be much more connected to those around you than only being isolated. Aside from their airplane part, where she was trying to be isolated.
But maybe that didn't make the short ad.
It's interesting to think about the usage, and think about a computer in general. Sure, there are times where multiple people are looking at the same screen, or you are displaying it on a TV, etc. But maybe 95+% of the time on average you are "in isolation".
But part of it is talking your own book. While Musk makes fun of everything and everyone to help keep current and in the news (Thai children's diving rescue, etc), Meta does have an agenda and product to push.

Thanks duckpins, that’s something that I haven’t given a lot of thought to. AI may be what brings those people back into the market.

These guys were calling for Apple to compete with crappy netbooks. Small notebook form factors. Not iPads.

Speaking of over bought, AAPL has an RSI of almost 72 Shhhh! Looking at the RSI chart, there are plenty of times where AAPL stays above 70 for a while, or comes down below it only by slowing the share upslope a bit. Like I said a week ago, looking at the last 3 Junes was interesting. The recent 2 didn't see a relative peak. But 3 years ago (hey, wasn't something else going on then? FWIW, neighbor has Covid and another neighbor is just getting over it) the stock had an RSI above 70, but then roads the wave between an RSI of maybe 60 and 80 for the next 3 months. With the stock going from about 80 to 135. I'll take that one! schrts.co/XZTRkhrdToday's push was even with the Nasdaq as a whole, so mostly general economic hopes and dreams. It would be nice if the wave keeps on going. $200 is a nice round number that AAPL will get to and surpass, less than 10% away. The question is just when.

Isn't the metaverse sitting alone on your couch *pretending* to be interacting with people who are also sitting on their couches alone?

Isn't the metaverse sitting alone on your couch *pretending* to be interacting with people who are also sitting on their couches alone? Yes. But I think Mark's version is that people are standing up, even walking about the room (and potentially walking into a wall). Kinda like a standing desk, with or without a treadmill. Sure, it is better for you. But if you're still staring as a screen for hours... FWIW, I had tendonitis in both arms, from being at basically the same computer setup (work and home) for up to 16 hours a day. It sucked, especially when I started thinking about what I could do if it never got better. Even ~20 years ago there were options by third parties for eye control or even brain control of your pointer. Instead I tried various therapies that workers comp sent me to (PT, acupuncture, biofeedback, and the prescription drugs from the doc), but what probably helped the most was switching input devices (used a pen on a tablet, even left handed), using a tented keyboard, keeping the arms close, using key commands when I could instead of the scroll wheel, and taking breaks (which probably helped the most). There's apps for that, though drinking lots of water or coffee works too. And it's a break for both the arms, back, and eyes. It took over a year, but eventually the problems went away. Doing anything too much causes problems. In refinishing a deck, it's tough being bent over using the belt sander and then staining. While it's great to finish it all in one go, it's better to push it over a few days, even if dodging thunderstorms.. I'm sure Meta will do fine with their product, and I'm sure they are already looking in to duplicating some of Apple's features on a higher end device, if the Vision Pro is successful. It is an interesting concept, especially as we become more and more reliant on having a device with us at all times and being able to access it at any moment. At some point we might all just have something built in, full on internal cyborg. OTOH, the Vision Pro has the potential of still being with those around you, as opposed to the full-on plugged-in mode on the Matrix.

Good feeling slightly evaporated in the after hours. Looks like we were just rising lockstep with the tide Good that PE is just 30 something. It’s still rational Starting to think share buybacks is a less effective use of money. Would rather divs. Or Apple build Apple-esq companies that are slightly out of their core expertise (perhaps a bank?) and spin them off.
