Do you ever look at this site on an iOS device with Safari? Do you ever end up having to re-log in to the site sometimes, even if you check "remember me"? If so, how often are you having to log in? If not, what's your trick? There are some variables out there. Proboards uses cookies (must be turned on), but they also use time. And Webkit has some tricks up their sleeve too. I've had enough people ask me about the issue, and have hit it myself, that I posted it on the proboards support site after finding nothing about it in the FAQ areas. I have not heard of anyone using Safari on iOS not hitting this issue. For me, I've had to re-log in after as little as a few hours, and the longest time that I haven't is less than 36 hours. There seems to be something going on here. Proboards would like some more info about it. Please answer this poll, and if you aren't having this issue, be sure to post about it. If you are having this issue and want to help out, please post on the support thread. I'll be away for a few days, but if things having been narrowed down by then I will put the poll results over there and help hunt down the issue once I am back. support.proboards.com/thread/674571/iphone-user-stay-logged-longThanks (EDIT: Putting here in the Intraday folder so that everyone sees it even if they are logged out....and can log back in and vote on it

If you are not having this issue, please post about it to confirm that you are not seeing this with proboards in Safari on an iOS device. It would help to know the hardware (what version of iPhone or iPad) and iOS.
It's possible that there are some extra complexities here, like the Share Across Devices (mine is on, and we have multiple Macs, iPhones, and an iPad using the same account), or something in Privacy & Security (I think mine are the defaults, but they are all on, except Block All Cookies is off). I don't have any extensions, and Block Pop-ups is on.
Knowing when this is happening, or when it isn't, should help in hunting down the problem.
Thanks!

4aapl, what's the setting on Block All Cookies and Share across devices in System Settings/Safari?
I am not getting logged out. I am running the latest iOS 17 developer beta with Private Relay on. I am not using the 'Desktop' website button in the bottom right and I didn't hit the 'remember me' checkbox when logging in. Share across devices is enabled and Block all Cookies is off. Block pop-ups is on in Safari settings and my only enabled extensions are: Crystal, Hush and Vinegar.

I never have to re-login but I only use my Mac to get on the board. Never login on my iphone or iPad.

Well guess what. This morning I sat down with my iPad only to find out that I was not logged into ProBoards. Some how Safari has gone into Private Browsing Mode. I've been trying to find a way to get back to normal, but Apple has hidden that switch really well. I'm not a happy camper right now.

To goto or leave private browsing mode in Safari on iPad: tap top left icon in Safari to show sidebar, see top two items (top is regular and second is Private browsing.)

Thank you aapl, that worked great. What I was upset about was when I did a web search this morning I got this, which didn't work: Turn Private Browsing on or off on your iPad .When I finish a session on my iPad/iPhone/Mac I always clear all tabs and apps that may be running in the background, old habit. Thanks again. Edit: After finally getting out of "Private Browsing Mode Hell" I was automatically logged back in to ProBoards.

I appreciate the info, but if you never use Safari on iOS on the board, why did you vote in this poll? It specifically called out iOS with Safari, and not general viewing on a Mac. While a couple people have talked about this in the past, and I've hit it some, it's looking like this isn't happening for most people, which is a good thing. It seemed like this was happening much more frequently, which would help explain why so many people have been viewing our site as a guest instead of logging in. Strange.

I just did a restart of my MacBook Pro M1 and went to aaplfinance.proboards.com where I had to login again. Is it the program, me, the machine or something else ? Inquiring minds . . .

All good here with Safari on iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 16.6, never have to re-login. I have this forum in an "Investing" tab group.
Tab groups are garbage on the Mac and crash all the time but seem ok on iOS/iPad OS.

No, what is strange is why you would attack Platon, which may explain why few others are not willing to register or post, perhaps out of fear that they too may be flamed for their view points or actions. Just an example.

No, what is strange is why you would attack Platon, which may explain why few others are not willing to register or post, perhaps out of fear that they too may be flamed for their view points or actions. Just an example. There was no attack. I have had multiple users tell me that they are not able to stay logged in on iOS, and I am seeing the same. On the ProBoards Support site they asked me to get more info about how many people were seeing this and what was going on, so I specifically asked "With Safari on iOS, how often do you have to login?" It's great that it is staying logged in on a Mac, and it is for me too. But this question was specific to iOS, and there wasn't an answer tailored for non-iOS users, or for that matter users of a different browser on iOS. And without good data from the poll, it makes the results less useful, with false negatives tossed into the mix. The good news is that it doesn't seem like most people are having a problem.

Sorry I just scanned your post and probably did not notice the IOS or maybe it just didn't register. I have been reading the posts about being logged off by a few posters. I am probably older than most here and certainly don't walk around with these devices attached to my ear, hand or eye, so I probably assumed most people used a mac. Feel free to delete my response and I hope I didn't skew the poll. Apologies.

It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err.” ― Mahatma Gandhi Thank you for the followup, both at first and now. I do really appreciate it. Like you, in the past I never used iOS to look at the site, and even now I do so rarely. But with the mix of portability of an iPhone, and ease of use of an iPad, more people have been using them to look at the site. It looks like this isn't as major of an issue as at first thought. Like I said, a few people had contacted me about it, and then I was seeing it too. It was seeming like it was a big deal, until this poll showed that many weren't hitting it. Proboards used cookies to keep you logged in, so if you disallow all cookies, or delete all cookies at some point, you'll have to log in again. The same is true with using a privacy filter like Safari's "private window". And this is true over all browsers, and all viewing options. Some people have had their Mac log them out before, somewhat occasionally, and this might have been part of it. I'll leave this poll open for a few more days, but at this point with so few people having problems it seems best to just email me directly if you are having issues staying logged in to the site. On my end, I'm trying it some more, and this time tried clicking the "remember me" button on the login page on iOS before I let iOS put in my saved login info. It seemed to act a little different, actually making me click the submit button whereas before I think it did it automatically. Maybe something is different this time. Time will tell. Without knowing anything about how ProBoards is saving it, it is hard to know exactly where this issue is. But maybe this will take care of it, and like hrace said on Thursday, Thanks everyone!

4aapl, what's the setting on Block All Cookies and Share across devices in System Settings/Safari? It looks like I have the same settings as you said you use, in the 3rd post of this thread. Sorry, I had put this info in the 2nd post in this thread, but it must have not stood out enough. I wrote: It's possible that there are some extra complexities here, like the Share Across Devices (mine is on, and we have multiple Macs, iPhones, and an iPad using the same account), or something in Privacy & Security (I think mine are the defaults, but they are all on, except Block All Cookies is off). I don't have any extensions, and Block Pop-ups is on. It looks like this isn't as widespread as it first seemed. Hopefully I can get it working on my end, but it's not a big deal to me since I normally use a Mac, and even on iOS I feel like hrace wrote, that if this is the worst problem then I'm doing ok. If anyone else if having login problems, where it doesn't remember you on either a desktop or on iOS, message me directly. Maybe we'll be able to figure it out. Thanks!

Try what I did, of before logging in unchecking and rechecking the "stay logged in" checkbox. Once I did that, and had the iPhone automatically put in my credentials, it seemed to stick. Mine is still logged in after a 9 days or so. Something with the login isn't right. But hopefully this can get you around it.

Perhaps the fact that I was logged in negated that checkbox . . . ? I will try logging out and look for that checkbox at a later time.

Accidents happen, and misreads or mischaracterization happens all the time online. I know I've done it at times. And while my intent was not to attack Platon, Dave's response showed me that it was at least possible, while also pointing out that maybe I try to respond too often. FWIW, he was the first to reply with a "I don't have this issue" vote, and I was still fired up thinking it happened to everyone, so asked him for more info. I think I did it calmly. But sometimes your intended meaning doesn't come through. Let's just set this aside and consider it a misunderstanding all around. All 3 of us have helped this site quite a bit over the years. And it seems like all current posters are trying to help keep this site as a resource.

A couple other people at times have had trouble with their Mac retaining the logged-in status. The more common thing is to make sure you are allowing cookies, not viewing in a private tab/window, and don't delete cookies. There's also the chance that your cookie is messed up, in which case deleting the specific cookie could help. Other than that I don't really know. In the support area, people talked about being temporarily banned due to using a VPN that gave them a banned IP. But I don't think it talked much of people not staying logged in. But check with the cookies and related things.
