APPL up a little in the premarkets at $174.87 +$.66 (+0.38%). Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense reports air and sea activity around Taiwan for the second time this week. Today's report has 68 PLA aircraft and 10 PLAN vessels doing exercises near and over the median line of the Taiwan Strait. And if you are planning on buying one of the new shiny iPhones tomorrow, you can setup your entire preorder in the Apple Store iOS app now and just hit the buy button early Friday.

My parents are finishing a vacation in Europe, and heard about this yesterday, asking if I knew anything about it since my mom said she is using an iPhone 12. I think she is using a 12 Pro or 13 Pro, but throw out the word "radiation" and people get excited. This Reuters story was in the stock app this morning: stocks.apple.com/AY-kvWzCUSNKmu-bh5gDYdw2 iPhone 12's were above the level, of the 141 phones bought, presumably of all types of phones. It doesn't say if that was all of the iPhone 12's they tested, half of them, ten percent, or whatever. The story thinks that a software update would likely fix this, as it's a watts per kilogram measurement, or how hot the iPhone gets. But it also says that they could force a recall of the device. That wouldn't be good, especially if it expanded to the whole EU. And while on the surface a sales bad doesn't seem back, I think the 12 is popular with some of the lower cost plans or prepaid options. We'll see how things go. I don't imagine it ending up being a huge issue, but the PR side of things could be bad, or could push people to buy new iPhones. But I'd guess that France will try to make this an issue with lots of press time. (EDIT: Here's another story, linked from the first, that has a tiny bit more info. Including that they had done 42 sales stops previously in the country, but this is the first for an iPhone. www.reuters.com/technology/apple-disputes-french-findings-says-iphone-12-complies-with-radiation-standards-2023-09-13/ I'm still curious if this test has been done before, but this was with either a new batch or an old iPhone. And it could always be refurbished or with a different battery or other components.)
