This is quite a change at OpenAI, where they fired their CEO on Friday: How OpenAI so royally screwed up the Sam Altman firingWhile I like that piece in general, it's the "two" that really stands out to me. "Two"? It turns out it is in the story they link to from nearly 3 weeks ago. I just expect some kind of proof reading or error checking, before or after. In rereading some of my stuff I come across various typos, but I don't have a paid staff and am not putting my stories up on the front page of CNN. And this sort of thing, especially if we can't seem to find someone to do it at a for-profit news site, would be one of those great uses of AI. The whole story was good, well worth reading. Sometimes companies have to make big changes. This could really stir up the whole AI arena. We'll have to see what happens, but this is really a time where things are changing. While I don't know enough about Sam and what Apple is looking for and wants in AI, it's times like this where Apple has the size and money that it could swoop in and make headlines, if there was something there that could be a good fit. I'm sure the right people at Apple have already been thinking about that this weekend. This could be a rare occasion to make waves.

I view AI to be like any other tool. The usefulness or destructiveness all depends on who is using it. Take for example a hammer. One could say that this world that we enjoy would not exist were it for something as simple as a hammer. But it can and has been used as a murder weapon on many occasions. It all depends on one’s intentions. It’s been said that the reason for the lack of trust in our news media today can blamed on the invention of the fax machine which made it too easy for one person to write a news story and have it sent around the world to news agencies. Fast with a fraction of the expense. It wasn’t the fax machines fault but its the convenience and economy. And once your competition starts to use it you also have to use it. The genie can not be put back into the bottle.
