Vanity Fair on the Vision ProWe are likely years away for this product to be a material contributor to the bottom line, but I don’t think this diminishes the credit Apple should get for bringing something revolutionary to the market. In spite of the current stampede to crap on everything Apple is doing. As others have said, no one should be concluding anything until they try this device.

I just had a walk across a field I mowed yesterday, in very bright sunlight, while watching Spider-Man in 3d on a massive screen, moving it along with me as I walked. My dog just shrugged and came along, no big deal.
The point is—it’s amazing watching a large (drive in-size) screen in bright sunlight outdoors with zero degradation—it appears just as clear and hi def as if it were in a light-controlled space. In the finest 3d, no less. Meanwhile, the pasture and woods beyond, the green green grass, the deep blue sky (the real environment) is clear—I could see deer in the field 150 yards away. I could see the imperfect ground just fine for walking.
This isn’t a use case, per se. Just remarking on the unique new experience and possibilities here now or coming soon.
I would pay good money to be able to walk through a USGS 3d lidar map of this property. Chiefly, I want to be able to ‘erase’ the forest, to better see the ground contours, and move through it for different vantages. The data for this part of Oregon exists at 3m resolution, free, online, and is viewable on 2d screens (highly recommend searching your own area ). It would be cool to combine lidar data online with localized real-time lidar data as you travelled through. Maybe even AI ‘learning’ as you move about. Or AI ‘augmenting’ the ‘real’ environment—adding trees. Adding buildings. Objects. Creatures….
I see a nexus between generative AI and spatial computing that isn’t being appreciated. I’m really looking forward to wwdc this year. I’m prepared to be disappointed, but also hopeful for new info on AI, vision OS, new partnerships, etc.
I agree with voices online calling for Apple to spread $$ amongst developers to create new apps and content for this fledgling new platform.

The possibilities of the Apple Vision Pro are almost endless. I doubt that there are many endeavors in life that couldn’t be aided by this device on many levels. Limited only by imagination. Apple, don’t screw this up.

Hi Dave - having had the demo, I agree that the tech is a game changer. And it has capabilities that only Apple could pull off. It’s an engineering marvel.
The challenge we all have is the time frame involved in making a material difference financially. We just don’t know. Apple has slammed into the wall on certain limitations like weight, cost and battery life. Which currently makes the device a small niche. It’s also a solitary device for now. As an example, you can’t watch a movie together with a family member. Which makes it kind of isolating.
It will be an interesting story to follow for sure. But it’s foggy on when it will add to the bottom line.

What do you normally then import the LPC or Metadata data options into? We're mostly using caltopo, which I just see has a cool layer for cell coverage (and data for the 3 main carriers), though it's often the various wilderness boundaries and property lines that we are looking for. I just pulled up the area we are planning a trail on, and some has 3m data, some has 1m data, and some close by areas even 0.5m data. This area has heavy brush up to 8 feet tall, so 1m data could really help figure things out. Thanks for the reminder that this data is out there.

I've just been using the online viewer here: apps.nationalmap.gov/lidar-availability-viewer/Then, manually zooming into the property, then messing about with the 'layer lists'. Which basically gives me a fairly high-def shaded 3d model of the property, and I can see, for instance, legacy logging and farming activity that happened (cat roads, for instance, or old fence lines, or even a log 'chute' that runs straight from the house to the river, 500' lower in elevation, that is otherwise impossible to see). In my case, I am trying to figure out the most comfortable path to travel down a very steep, heavily forested bluff, that has a bunch of cliff zones, and areas where erosion is a concern. There are really just two spots to reasonably (safely) get up and down the steepest sections, but it is very helpful to see where the best areas for lateral trails to criss-cross the less steep areas. I hope to stretch a trail out to 1.5 miles or so to get down the 500' to the water. It's brutal bushwhacking more or less straight up! I know hobbyists are using the data in various ways to find little crooks and crevices where overlooked gold might be found, in legacy mining areas.

I just noticed this entry on r/AppleVisionProRemember guys, Apple doesn’t innovate.Your Vision Pro connecting to your MacBook with a glance? yawn, boring.
Seamlessly controlling both with one trackpad? quite unremarkable.
Oh, and spatially-anchored windows on a plane moving 500 mph? very mid.
Nothing to see here 😏
