I think it's appropriate for us to have a thread dedicated to Apple's newest product...the Vision Pro. And I also think it's appropriate to start the thread with the comments from crispin and pauls from February 2nd. Members can use this thread for all things related to the Vision Pro and for any personal experiences they may have with the product. I've been scanning reviews from new purchasers of AVP on Reddit and what I'm seeing is nearly universal "HOLY SH*T!" reactions. A lot of these people are experienced consumers of VR with collections of previous headsets, and they almost all are completely blown away by the AVP experience, saying things like "game changer" and "1000x ahead of the others" and yes even "magical" ; ) I think this bodes very well. Put me down as another "HOLY SH*T!" It truly is an experience that is tough to put words to. Spatial Videos that I've been taking here and there with my recent iPhone 15 max are just....amazing. As are the Environments, the 3d content (movies, apps, special content made by Apple to demo the possibilities....). It's very easy to read (Apple News app, for instance). It's amazing to be in our very brightly lit living room on this unseasonably sunny day, with the sun reflecting off the river-- an environment we could never watch tv in, for instance....and be able to see these bright, clean windows of content arrayed around, amongst the familiar room, with zero issues of the room's brightness....and be able to turn the dial and fall back into an immersive environment--same windows, but now in the desert, or at a lake, or volcano, or mount Hood at night, in the rain.... It's crazy. The fidelity-- sound and vision-- is superb. The eye tracking feels magical. I imagine using it in the mornings-- watching the market, getting news, checking weather, reading email....all in different windows, maybe even with windows placed in different rooms (a couple in the kitchen, where I'm drinking coffee, some in front of the couch, etc-- windows stay where you put them, until you tell them to move). I can definitely see watching movies and TV. I'm alone a couple nights a week at some property we have in the country. I work all day out in the woods, or fixing up the old house. At night I watch movies and TV. This will be amazing. If you don't watch a lot of movies or TV, ymmv. But there is no comparison between the Vision Pro and ANY large, modern TV screen. None. The most annoying thing-- It's a little tricky to share. There is a 'guest' mode, but it requires the guest to go through a series of setup motions-- each time you hand it to the guest. So in our case, I handed it to my wife perhaps 4 times, as I was discovering new things to share with her, and each time required her to scan her hands, scan her eyes, etc. It only takes a couple of minutes, but to view a spacial video of our dog that I took a couple days ago, that was only an 8 second clip, is kind of a pain. Maybe this is something they can work on and remove friction on in the coming weeks in an update....? My preference would be a real sharing situation, where the vision pro could recognize multiple users, and save settings for each user for future use. It's very clear that Apple has made a huge commitment to this tech, this 'future'. It's not perfect-- I've only used it a total of maybe 1 hour. But it truly is astonishing.

This is a good detailed review of the Apple Vision Pro: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtp6b76pMakBut the very best way to understand the importance and future impact of this product is to visit an Apple Store and demo it.

This is the most in-depth review I've seen-- www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDwcLDSimXsI remain excited about the platform's future. As I said from the outset, I hope Apple is spending money on content and also doing whatever they can to assist developers. The professionally produced immersive content is just so compelling....I want more. Particularly live, 'real' content (Alicia Keys rehearsal segment, for instance. Or the visit to the Rhinoceros sanctuary). I've read that a 'best of' documentary of last season's playoffs of Major League Soccer is coming, shot in Immersive....I am positive that will get a lot of attention. Horace mentioned the convergence of the Vision Pro with AI-created environments....Yes, please. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDwcLDSimXs (His comments on Apple's AI, and also Vision Pro, begin around 17:20) But the reality seems to be that it's going to take awhile before there is a steady stream of new content, apps, experiences for Vision Pro. And that makes sense-- developers and content creators have only had access to the hardware for weeks (mostly), and that's only in N America. I know anecdotally that Apple is talking to creators in the stop motion animation world.... It's really crazy, that you will soon be able to insert yourself into any environment-- real, augmented, virtual, live events, dream scapes, cinematic worlds... As Horce D said-- Get yourself to an Apple store for a demo, if you haven't already. Not to buy, just to understand the possibilities.

For those with access to an Apple Vision Pro, I'd like to suggest some apps to try. I heard about both of them from a long time member of AFB who's owned an AVP for over a month and has the background and interests to find some pretty cool stuff. (Yes, I'm old...that's why I still use the word cool 😎) The first is Puzzling Places. Check it out on the App Store to get both a text and video clip idea of how this 3-D jigsaw puzzling works. I don't normally spend time doing puzzles but I must admit, the two I've worked on so far are pretty damn fun...and the way they work are, IMO, pretty amazing. I'd advise anyone interested to follow the link below to learn more about how the puzzles work. Puzzling Places on Apple Vision Pro™Gameplay The Apple Vision Pro is a unique new platform for spatial computing and we quickly realized porting Puzzling Places as-is wouldn't feel right. Instead, we re-designed it from the ground-up taking advantages of the unique interface of Vision Pro. Don't be surprised if the gameplay feels a bit different than what you'd would expect if you've played Puzzling Places on Quest, PlayStation VR, or other VR platforms! Each puzzle begins with a central piece that you connect all the other pieces to. You're presented with four or more pieces in the shelf that you can pull out, move, and connect to the central piece. Instead of having to lift your arm to grab and move pieces you can select them with your gaze and a tap before you move them to their destination with a slight dragging of your hand from a more comfortable position.
Content Puzzling Places comes with three unique puzzles which you might recognize from previously released Monthly Puzzle Packs.
You start off with the simple, 25-piece Cozy Cabin puzzle, located in a snowy Czech forest. You then advance to the beautifully detailed 100-piece interior of Prayer Hall located in the Uzbek Registan complex, captured by Global Digital Heritage. Finally, you round it off with the breathtaking 200-piece Mont Saint-Michel, a UNESCO world heritage site towering over the tidal sea of northern France, scanned by Gerpho3D via airplane. You start off with the simple, 25-piece Cozy Cabin puzzle, located in a snowy Czech forest. Given the fact that we now have a library of over 150 puzzles other VR platforms, we're starting off with a humble selection of puzzles on Vision Pro while we continue to learn, experiment, and understand what works best on this new platform. We're working on bringing more puzzles to Puzzling Places on Vision Pro in the very near future! Spatial Computing Spatial computing is a somewhat new term to describe what a operating system native to AR/VR could be like–It's all about being able to do your personal computing, movie watching, and gaming without being bounded to a screen size limitations of a phone, tablet, or a computer monitor. We've designed Puzzling Places on Vision Pro to exist as a "volume" app within the VisionOS Shared Space, meaning, it can float alongside your other apps for easy multitasking–pull up a movie or podcast and place it alongside Puzzling Places! Call a friend on FaceTime to chat while you finish a puzzle!======================= The second app is also a free app for the next few months and allows one to see incredible works of art from all over the world in an enormous hall. Pretty spectacular. After several months, it will require a membership, so now's a great time to check it out to see if it's something of interest./ Introducing the Art Authority Museum: A new type of art museum for a new worldIt’s All Led to This: The Art Authority MuseumNot a brilliantly done Youtube video, but gives you the general feel. Art Authority Museum on Apple Vision ProThis another introduction of the Art Authority Museum, made later in the month than the first one I included: Introducing Art Authority Museum for Apple Vision ProThis is a review from a person who used the iPad app. I'm guessing from his high praise for that app he was awestruck by the AVP app.

My wife and I watched Apple's 5 minute highlight video with our Vision Pros yesterday and I'd recommend the experience to anyone with access to an AVP...it was mind boggling. My wife is the sports fan in our house, watching hours of baseball and subscribing to the Red Zone in football season. I occasionally watch the SF Giants or the SF 49ers with her but I'd certainly be more likely to do so if the games had cameras to take advantage of the AVP. If you're interested, please check out the ZDNET story below...and if you have an AVP, watch the short video and post your reaction. I watched Apple's newest Immersive Video on the Vision Pro, and it was my 'aha' momentOne minute into Apple's 2023 MLS Cup Highlights Immersive Video for the Vision Pro, I thought to myself, "Maybe I don't need to buy tickets to the 2026 FIFA World Cup that's taking place just 30 minutes away from my house."
That's how real, spirited, and stimulating it was to watch some of the world's best athletes compete for the coveted Anschutz Trophy, awarded to the winning team in Major League Soccer, as fans cheered from the stands, rain or shine.

It made me want to watch an entire match, and also, to have some control over vantage points. The editing on the short demo was a little choppy and frenetic, imo, but absolutely demonstrates the potential for viewing live sports, concerts, etc. I found the Alicia Keys backstage rehearsal video more eye-opening, but that's a quibble. The technology is undeniably next level. I'm really looking forward to WWDC in June, where we might see VisionOS 2.0, or at least get more insight in to what to expect as the OS continues to mature, see what Apple and also various developers are working on. I have to wonder if immersing viewers into a live (or even pre-recorded) event might be 'too hard' at present....? No doubt growth in the number of headsets in the wild will make new experiences more and more feasible. A week ago, I was alone for the evening and ended up watching two feature length movies in 3d-- Mad Max: Fury Road, and also a Tom Cruise sci-fi movie, The Edge of Tomorrow. The Tom Cruise movie is NOT something I'd usually watch, but I have to say-- 3d movies on the AVP are an entirely new proposition, and darned if I didn't love the entire, double feature experience (Fury Road was great in 2d, and AMAZING in 3d on the AVP, imo). I was surprised that I could be comfortable for 3 hrs straight, with just a couple of short breaks. Early adopter, no regrets!

I expect there to be an extra charge to users who would like to watch a sports event with their AVP which is now free to watch on "normal" TV's. So the limited number of headsets available may not make it financially worthwhile. My wife and I have not seen Mad Max: Fury Road at all so, given your high praise, I'll be lobbying her to include that on our "Must Watch" list. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts![/quote] Thanks! By "too hard", I meant maybe there are tech hurdles that make creating a live spatial experience not worth the effort at this stage of the game, especially considering the relatively low numbers of AVP headsets in the wild. Maybe bandwidth issues in streaming for a typical home user...or rights issues with teams, leagues, artists etc.... Is it realistic, today, or in the near future, to stream a soccer match or NBA game, start to finish, with a multi-camera set-up in close to realtime? Maybe? I've yet to see a clear answer to that question. As to Mad Max: Fury Road....It's pretty intense! I'm curious...since you and your wife both have headsets...do you try to watch things together? Is there a way to sync whatever media you might be watching? I think that is an area that could be very compelling in the future....to share an immersive environment (both be present on the surface of the moon, for instance, and be able to see each other's persona, talk.), while watching a synced movie or sporting event. So many possibilities with this tech!

I thought this was an interesting article regarding the AVP since it discusses the limitations of current lenses and comments about what will be needed. I included a couple of excepts from the article. Canon: No Currently Available Camera is High-Res Enough for Apple Vision Pro** "Apple’s Vision Pro features some of the highest resolution screens ever made for an augmented reality or virtual reality headset, so it’s not hard to believe it will take a serious camera to make top-tier immersive content for it."** “In order to reproduce video for Vision Pro, you need to have at least 100 megapixels,” Yasuhiko Shiomi, Advisory Director and Unit Executive of the Image Communication Business Operations at Canon, says. “So at the moment, we can’t cater to that level of a requirement. But what I presume the companies which will be providing images for the Vision Pro will be required to have 100-megapixels with 60 frames per second,” Shiomi explains.

I’d just like to know if the AVP is still selling as they were at introduction. Whether there is a backup of weeks to ship etc.

I'm curious...since you and your wife both have headsets... do you try to watch things together? Is there a way to sync whatever media you might be watching? We do watch things together but haven't stumbled upon a way to start a movie or something with a link to have it play in both of our AVP's at the same time. That would be great, but until then, it's 1...2...3...go! I think that is an area that could be very compelling in the future....to share an immersive environment (both be present on the surface of the moon, for instance, and be able to see each other's persona, talk.), while watching a synced movie or sporting event. So many possibilities with this tech! That would be good! I agree. When we're both in the same immersive environment now, of course, we see nothing but the environment. But, I have to say, watching a movie while in an environment is amazingly nice. We tend to watch many of the movies while we're "on the moon". :-)

Basically it puts to shame our lcd TV (52") or 10' projector with surround sound. The crispness of the picture, the audio surround, the ability to have any size high-def screen you desire.... I've watched Masters of the Air episodes, Game of Thrones episodes....the experience is literally the best, highest fidelity TV I've ever seen. And that it can be watched over a lake on Mt Hood or on the surface of the moon is hard to oversell.... I don't think anything is modified, that I can tell. But infinitely resizable, moveable, portable, etc...

Can you guys with the product comment on the experience with existing AppleTV+ content. Like Foundation, Severance and so on? Is that content in any way modified or tailored to the AVP? I don't believe any of the content is modified...but my wife and I enjoy watching *movies* with the AVP because of some of the features of the unit itself. The two most important, IMO, is that one can make the screen *much* larger than a normal TV and also change the environment where you're watching. 1. The main TV at my son's home is 80", I believe, which seems much larger than our 65" screen. The AVP allows one to make the screen appear much, much larger...as if one is at a theater. I can bring the screen very close, so the screen seems 6-8 feet wide...or push it away so it appears as wide as the room. 2. Apple provides several environments for watching whatever it is you're watching. We've used the Moon, Joshua Tree National Park, Yosemite, Mt. Hood, and there may be one or two others...new ones are apparently on the way. Also, when watching movies on Disney+, one can watch from the Disney Theater or several others...Max has the Iron Throne. A couple of the links below may be worth skimming if you're at all interested: www.imore.com/vision-pro/environments-on-apple-vision-pro-what-they-are-and-every-location-announced-so-farwww.idownloadblog.com/2023/06/22/default-vision-pro-environments-visionos/https://www.idownloadblog.com/2023/06/22/default-vision-pro-environments-visionos/www.disneyplus.com/welcome/applevisionprohttps://www.disneyplus.com/welcome/applevisionprowww.max.com/apple-vision-prohttps://www.max.com/apple-vision-prowww.uploadvr.com/apple-vision-pro-includes-four-environments-for-disney-subscribers/https://www.uploadvr.com/apple-vision-pro-includes-four-environments-for-disney-subscribers/

Gucci put out a little 20 min. documentary all about their new Creative Director, and touches on the history of the brand. I'm not a fashion guy, but this 20 minute mixed reality 'experience' is like nothing else, and really shows what is possible going forward, not just in brand marketing, but in all types of stories, imo. Very, very impressive, incredibly immersive, and absolutely captures one's attention in a way that screens as we've come to know them can't.
It can be found (featured) on the AVP app store. Two thumbs up. Free.

After only a couple of minutes I downloaded a Bee from the app and gasped as it moved around and then disappeared. Unfortunately, I can't get the damn app to open again...but if you haven't tried it you should.

I looked at the Beautiful Things website, which has a huge (and growing) library of 3d objects, animals, etc. I suppose the app is the same content..? I will check it out.
On the website, I checked out the model of the original iPod, with the shiny chrome back. As you spin it around, it reflected parts of the room I was in, because the AVP had mapped the room when I wasn't even aware it was happening. I could see my refrigerator's reflection (hazy, but still) on the iPod. So subtle, so crazy. The only thing that makes the 3d iPod model less than 'real' is that it is too perfect, too new-looking.

While looking at the latest updates on r/AppleVisionPro, I came across this poor soul who has a Vision Pro but apparently needs some help on what to do with it. binnedPixel: I don’t know what to do
What are you guys doing with your Apple Vision Pros?
I’d love to use mine more but I just don’t know what to do with it!
Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks! ========= Perhaps it's just me, but I loved the phrase I highlighted below from the comment made by 7stringjazz. ========= 7stringjazz:
This is what apple dreads the most. It’s early days so use cases and VP specifics are still being discovered. You bought a first class ticket for the journey that is still getting out of the harbor. I imagine movies and gaming will emerge as the killer experiences.

From AppleVisionPro on Reddit, another person repeated pauls' praise of the 20 minute Gucci app. I agree...my wife watched the Gucci app last night and was impressed as well. ============= r/AppleVisionPro Hour_Muffin137 Gucci app/experience well worth the time!
Never thought I would download or recommend an app for a fashion brand when that is not my thing but the Gucci 20 min video is one of the best apps I have seen that shows the future of content for Vision Pro. Takes advantage of platform combining both standard video, with custom immersion as well as unique way to interact with content in natural way during experience.
I hope more content creators watch this and start to make their own unique experiences. Honestly good business decision by Gucci as I would never have watched a normal Gucci video. Feel Apple themselves should be making similar content. Music videos would be a great place to take existing content and add new immersion experience to bring them additional exposure.

So great you had a chance to have the demo, Lstream. When you have some time, please give some thoughts about what impressed or stands out to you about the experience.

So much to be wowed by.
1. The immersive demo. It really does feel like you are there. On some of the climbing stuff, you look down and it feels like you could fall. Being right next to those rhinos. Feels like you could touch them. Sports footage! There is a scene in Turkey that I visited last fall. It was like being there again. And so on.
I do wonder how much of this stuff will be created early. The cameras and overall tech needed to do this must be massively expensive.
2. How good the eye tracking is. People have called it magic. Feels like it.
3. The display technology makes everything real. Resolution is so impressive.
4. Panorama photos. I have a lot. Turns them from a bit underwhelming to amazing.
5. The 3D memories stuff. Like birthday parties. I need to start capturing grandkids content.
6. Watching movies is complete next-level. This use case along will be enough for me to buy, once we can get them in Canada.
One thing I could not evaluate was the sound. Too noisy in the store. How is the Spatial Audio quality?
Overall, this is likely the most impressive piece of hardware engineering I have ever seen.

"4. Panorama photos. I have a lot. Turns them from a bit underwhelming to amazing."
Agreed!
I had taken some panorama shots from when I was half way through rebuilding my house-- just a simple panning shot of the torn-up living room. When I revisited it these several years later with the AVP, it transported me back to that time in a way I never suspected. And of course, I happened to look at it while standing in roughly the same spot I took the original photo...so good.
Regarding Spatial Audio through the headset speakers-- It's very good, imo! Maybe not quite as punchy as sound via my AirPods pro, but very immersive and natural sounding.

I don't normally read much on reddit but I've made Bookmarks for both r/VisionPro and r/AppleVisionPro. They have comments from Apple Vision Pro users, AVP developers and from those who have questions about the AVP. They have some duplicate entries but it's easy to scan them both individually. They're the means by which I came across two AVP apps which others on AFB may appreciate. I included a link to them both below with a little of the verbiage the developer included. I thought both apps were impressive. 1. I set out to create the best immersive video content for the Apple Vision Pro. Based on the feedback, I think I nailed it.
Kia ora, Reddit! I'm James, a videographer from New Zealand with a singular goal: to create and share the absolute best immersive video content for the Apple Vision Pro. I knew it would be a challenge, but I was determined to push the boundaries of what's possible.
I poured my heart into developing "ExplorePOV," an app that transports users to the world's most breathtaking locations in stunning 16K 3D. I wanted users to feel like they were really there, experiencing these wonders firsthand - from their point of view.
After countless late nights, I released ExplorePOV - and didn't tell anyone. And then, something incredible happened. The feedback & emails started pouring in. AVP users from all over were finding and downloading ExplorePOV and sharing their experiences. And their responses have left me floored.
"This is hands down the best immersive video content I've ever experienced on the AVP." "The quality is unparalleled."
