Good morning everyone.
U. S. Markets are closed.
Excellent discussion on Apple, iVehicle and the automotive market in the weekend thread -- when suddenly I was in IMDB reading about long forgotten movies.
Much regurgitation on the iCar in the news. By and large more insightful analysis here. Thank you all.
Have a great day.

Long article in The New Yorker on Jony Ive: www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/02/23/shape-things-comeMy favourite line: "Ive’s career sometimes suggests the movements of a man who, engrossed in a furrowed, deferential conversation, somehow backs onto a throne." This was particularly interesting, regarding the design of the Apple Watch: The shape of the body, meanwhile, barely changed: a rectangle with rounded corners. “When a huge part of the function is lists”—of names, or appointments—“a circle doesn’t make any sense.”

The New Yorker's The Shape of Things to Come is a wonderful profile of Jony Ive. Rob_London beat me. That makes two endorsements. Favorite line... when a designer joined a meeting at Apple it was “like being in church when the priest walks in.”

Good morning - hope everyone is having a great 3 day holiday! Unfortunately, my husband decided to buy a grandfather clock for our family room. Before leaving for work today he decided to change the sound of the chimes...now it plays the church tune Ave Maria every fifteen minutes. Each time it plays I feel the impulse to genuflect - this is ridiculous...he needs to change it back! UGH!

I would like Apple to buy TSLA rather than spend years gearing up to make cars. I know many don't agree with this but why? Seems like a way to take the good parts of TSLA and transition it to the what Apple wants to do, while saving years on infrastructure building.

One thought regarding the iVehicle... Many people are saying this is 5 to 7 years out. Yet we have no idea how long Apple has been working on the idea (whatever it is). We could already be 5 years into development. In light of Apple's hiring of auto industry expertise it is likely beyond a glimmer in Jony's eye.

Up nicely in Frankfurt I'll say. Up 2.5%

Up nicely in Frankfurt I'll say. Up 2.5% In your experience is this a determinant of where AAPL will open tomorrow?

I mentioned the T.27 in a previous post, but thought that I would include the link. I noticed a few things in the article that are relevant to our discussion. First, the design of both the car and the entire factory to produce it was done in 17 months. Second, Murray was talking to three manufacturers. Third, the manufacturing process is called the "iStream" www.greencarcongress.com/2011/06/gordon-murray-t27-unveiled-zytek-provides-more-details-on-25-kw-ev-powertrain.htmlThis car, with larger variants for the U.S market and with self driving technology might actually work. Of course, what Apple CAN do and SHOULD do may be two entirely different matters.

I tend to find Mike Elgan to be very snarky about Apple, preferring the Google solution over Apple's virtually every time. Perhaps he's had an epiphany since earnings as that article appeared to contain less of his snark than I was expecting.

I'll say. Up 2.5% In your experience is this a determinant of where AAPL will open tomorrow? Well, given that the EU markets are red and AAPL is firmly green, I would say an up day on Tuesday in the US markets is imminent.

While protecting our privacy and the special elements that make the experience one we won't trust to just anyone or any companyReading the terrific new piece on Apple design today, and reflecting on Tim's carefully chosen comments at the GS conference, along with several other quotes from the senior group in recent weeks, I'm struck by the newfound tone of confidence and sense of direction.
It may have always been there but the early earnings calls and media relations strategy did not did not show what we see now. It makes you wonder if they can't take and improve anything we believe to be our best, most intimate personal experience

Possible in terms of the numbers. aapltree.wordpress.com/2015/02/14/a-new-car-not-sure-but-apple-could-hide-a-skunkworks-project-in-plain-sight/ Though if you get really serious about it it can't be kept secret. This is a car. Reports of Dodge Caravans with cameras on top don't mean test mules for Apple Car.

I don't like all of the commentary/whatever from the New Yorker Author's profile on Ive but that's the OTHER price of access I guess - you have to account for the filter as the reader.
Still a must-read. Unprecedented access. Takes a LONG time to read though.

Sure wish we could talk about something other than the Vaporware car rumor propagated by Business Insider.

I'm so tired of this Greek nonsense. Wish they would just leave the euro or get kicked out of it. Deadbeats.

Tonight: Apple is rumored to announce media invite tomorrow.
Tonight: WSJ is reporting that Apple pulled some advanced health sensor features from Watch. BFD. There were no real expectations as Tim didn't announce them at the unveiling. FUD is WSJ's crack pipe.

Interesting 12 things we learned about Jony Ive. Well, not everything, as many of us have long known that Jony is a car nut. Hint. www.cultofmac.com/312423/12-things-learned-new-yorkers-profile-jony-ive/Glad to read that Ive is also disdainful of Isaacson's biography of his Steveness. Walter wrote a crappy biography and his "Apple analysis" ain't any better. Is there anyone dumber than CNBC producers for putting this boob on?
