...If you look on "smart traders" sites like EWT - they aren't suggesting buying or selling right in here but they sure as hell are NOT suggesting anyone jump in and short the thing or you could easily wipe out! Never short a stock in momentum even if you're almost certain that a correction is coming... have to wait for the correction to actually come and confirm before shorting i.e. capture the next 50% profit not try to get 100% profit... usually ends up very bad.

...this buy-and-hold stuff really pays off_especially when the stock being held is AAPL... True especially since 1997 BUT ... forever has to be qualified. How many US public companies did last more than 100 years? 200 years? Dupont is founded in 1802 , KO in 1806, and LCUT in 1811. IBM is 104 years old. How long can AAPL last? It is founded in Apr 1, 1976. Almost 39 years old.

Unless there are giant tortoises here, centuries are irrelevant.

Call me wreckless but if AAPL lives to be 100 years old....I will be long gone and I won't necessarily care at that point....and at 200 years old, well, I'm not sure the earth will exist as we know it. Can't worry about the future tooo much. Can't we talk about a decade at a time, please?....A century is too overwhelming right now.

Scientists claim that the theoretical age limit is 120 years if no sickness/ cancer/ accidents though there are a few humans able to live till 170-200 years old. Some geneticists think they can extend human lifespan forever soon ... immortality, wow!

Now tell us your AAPL cost and tax basis. We are fortunate (lucky) to have a really good AAPL cost and tax basis, JD. But probably not quite as good as yours. Along with a couple of personal AAPL spreadsheets I maintain, this simple one requires no real maintenance and tells the investment story for AAPL longs very simply, if only from 2006. I very much like taking a look at it now and again, especially on days like today.

Well the chances of going through life completely unscathed would deem one to be extremely lucky or be living in a bubble. At this point if I lived to 120 I would look like something out of Creature Features - or Tales from the Crypt - scary. But who knows - my grandmother lived till she was 106 - was sharp as a tack - could debate any Fed actions - tell you why the Euro was doomed - lived from a time of horse and buggy to man on the moon....it was quite a life.

Yee Hah! 3.51 gain is 24.57 pre split. That gives some true perspective on today's boost phase ascent.... How close is that to a single day record rise? Anybody know how to find that out?

How does today's price action ($24.57 pre-split) compare to history? Thanks to an old PED post, we have the following: Largest single day dollar gain (pre split) was $49.72 (about $7.10 post split) on April 25, 2012 - "when the stock rose nearly $50 on higher than expected second quarter earnings." This represented a one day rise in value gain of 8.87%. The second largest gain was $38.05 on November 19, 2012 (about $5.44 post split) for a 7.21% gain. fortune.com/2012/11/19/apple-soars-38-05-its-second-highest-one-day-dollar-gain/So let's dig a little deeper. What happened leading up to that single day largest dollar gain in April 25, 2012? Turns out that there was a 4 month bull run leading to record Apple highs ($644) exactly two weeks prior to 4/25/2012 followed by 10 days of profit taking where it fell 13.8% (to $555). Apple released it's Q2 earnings report on April 24th, and the next morning, the 25th, the slingshot rocketed the stock up and ended the day with it's largest single day gain. Here is PED's post deconstructing that slingshot day: fortune.com/2012/04/26/the-apple-slingshot-released-57-billion-in-one-clock-tick/Are we going to see a repeat of history this April ? We are experiencing an extended bull run on AAPL, and we are coming in to a promising Q2 with huge China potential due to Lunar New Year and China Mobile being fully on board.
