I always wondered why so many people make the assumption that Apple doesn't do market research and just designs "cool stuff" and throws it out for the the public to consume. Sure that's part of the legend, but in practice, it doesn't really work that way for many things involved in product design (colors, etc). False dichotomy is false, Mark. The story about Henry Ford asking his customers what they want, faster horse, blah blah blah is true. Most people, myself included, thought iPad had no purpose - until we used it. I'm sure the Watch is a similar thing, you gotta use it to understand it. If something is innovative, it isn't obvious at first glance, or it wouldn't be innovative. So yeah, people don't always know what they want, until Apple shows it to them first. I think Tim revealed a lot when he said how many Apple execs were using Watch in their daily lives and couldn't live without them. A lot of their "market" research is done in-house with C-suite guys. But sure, with incremental changes and options, like color and screen size, sometimes you listen the unwashed rabble (although Henry Ford did say his customers could have any color they wanted, so long as it was black). As for VZ and T, I really hope Tim is blasting those SOBs behind the scenes for talking out of school. Because Samsung and Microsoft sure as hell aren't going to make the carriers money in mobile. I know Watch is but an accessory to iPhone, but they are huge partners with Apple, and I'd be furious with them if I were Tim. I know Steve would have blasted them. I do think Tim is a closet dragon himself, from what little has leaked out about his leadership style. But few people could instill fear like Steve. That was a feature, not a bug, BTW. And yeah, going to cut the cable cord with Charter soon, and reduce my bill by over 50%. Probably going to wait until March Madness is over though. #GoBruins

But what can you get for a not-super-recent Android smartphone these days?

JD, you don't get to a $200B+ run-rate just by being a nice guy (is my guess).
And people think of Tim Cook as a peacetime CEO. Heheh.

But what can you get for a not-super-recent Android smartphone these days? Apple says: "we will give you twice what your crummy old Android phone is worth. Just sign up here for your new Iphone, move on over to the Apple Watch counter...and then you can use that gift card in exchange for your Samsung Galaxy. Let's see, $35 bucks...yes, that's about right. Enjoy your new iOS products!"

Nice idea, but what's the trade-in value of an Android? $5?

OK, maybe there is something to this Apple-going-green thing.
