Wall Street is coming to a slow realization.

I'm liking the action....Wall Street pulled out their collective abacus and did a little spot math. Let's see......a million this weekend....deliveries pushed out until....at ASP of $650........plus residual iphone sales to support, or vice versa, .....current P/E of What?
Oh, Jerry, buy some of that AAPL

Low-ish volume, but yep, for those who believe in chart witchcraft, there is a triangle-ish pattern forming from January. And it's looking positive.

Store report: made a try-on reservation last night, just went to it at a small store in a local mall. Steady traffic but not busy. I got assigned to one of the portable stations on the side, which is really not ideal because they don't have all the options there like they do at the main tables. But even with the limited options, the apple sales guy seemed confused about the different options, prices, band sizes, etc. I knew more than him from my obsessive apple research and found myself stepping in to correct him.
I ended up liking the space grey Sport watch the best, with the steel link bracelet a close second (though of course $700 more expensive). The sales guy didn't try to sell at all, to the point when I said, I think "this one is my favorite, thank you for your help", he didn't say anything about how to buy one. I followed with "so I order online?"
There are a ton of features on the watch and since the one yore trying on is only on a demo loop, it's a bit difficult to get a sense for how the thing really works. You can play with the other working display models, but you can't try them on so some features can't be tested. For example, the way the watch screen is off but turns on when you lift your wrist -- can't be tested anywhere in the store. That's a bit non-ideal.
The worst part, I asked the sales guy if he was going to get one for himself and he said, "probably but I don't know if I really need it." Yeesh.
Non-scientific conclusion: cool product, retail experience and training needs work.

Bullish close. I'd thought about doing a bear spread for opex (pain range was 125-126), but then thought, nah, with the Watch release, calls be damned, and they were. Or those trying to damn calls were damned, actually. Big 125 call wall next week, but if you subtract the puts, it's roughly the same differential as this week's 127 call/put wall (~21K), and it failed.

One question for next week is whether Apple says anything on Monday about presales. They don't need to, nor should they be compelled to. But if they do say something like: "we are pleased that demand was off the charts as 1.2 million people pre-ordered the most personal device we have ever made. We look forward to filling these orders just as quickly as we can". Might be fun....

I also just got back from my local Apple store where I tried on the watch.
A little busier than an average weekday afternoon. Was about 15 minutes early for my appointment. The Rep met with me right away.
Observations on the watch.
The Sports Bands looked better in person than online. I felt they had the appearance of plastic.
I liked the infinitely adjustable bands better than the more traditional clasp at interval bands. I found the Leather Loop more comfortable than the Milanese. Had I ordered sight unseen, I probably would have gone with the Milanese. After seeing and trying them, I will order the Bright Blue Leather Loop. I also liked the Stainless Steel best. Shiny.
Was surprised to see that they do have the 'edition' watches on display. They are beautiful but a bit out of Scrooge McDuck's price range.
Was concerned whether Apple was allowing enough time with the 15 minute appointments. The Rep actually gave me almost 25 minutes of undivided attention and did not stop until I felt 'finished'. He was very helpful. Had me pull up the Apple store App so we could like my favorite and get all of the details right. I didn't even realize that there was a strap size let alone that 'medium' was best for me. He did apologize for having to ask a co-worker the answer to a question. (How is diabetes monitoring handled?) It was the first day of a totally new product. He said there has been a steady stream of customers all day.
Overall it is a brilliant move to have people come in for appointments to try things on. As usual there is no hard sell. In fact as archibaldtuttle noted, there was no discussion of ordering beyond having 'liked' my preferences on the Apple Store App so that I could access it. It seems the Apple Store Reps could offer that if the person would like to place an order now, they can do so in the store and the rep would be happy to a assist if they wanted. Still no pressure.

AAPL was looking to close around $127 - $128 at the beginning of the week and we did. I guess you MIGHT call the close "bullish." My definition is $130. Absent the weeklies, we'd be talking about $140.

Brilliant launch, imo. Handily managed the day's tech conversation during Samsung launch. Sold out, whatever that means (might mean a LOT). Now free to look forward to ER and use of cash, and hopefully, continued excellent marketing efforts. I love the new MB.
Apple's free marketing is mind boggling and must be the sorest point with the competition.

I hope you e-mailed a similar critique your experience to the Apple powers-that-be... Store report: made a try-on reservation last night, just went to it at a small store in a local mall. So I passed my Apple Store and felt a gravitational pull and HAD to stop in. I have not ordered because I was torn on size although I should just realize that for the most part bigger is better but I wanted to take a peek. I explained that I did not have an appointment but just wanted to browse and they were quite welcoming. I must tell you that I was pleasantly surprised at how much better they look in person. I was a bit concerned but no one need be. Even the bands look great. Navigating the screen will take some getting used to but in the hands of my son or daughter it would take 24 to 48 hours tops...if that! I think the stainless edition aka "the watch" is the nicest. My biggest disappointment- and it was a fairly big one- was the amount of sales people who were NOT well versed versus those who were. I am not talking about the ones who were dealing with the people who had appointments but those who were dealing with folks like me that were looking at the glass cases and at the ones in which you could play with on the different displays (but not actually put on). It seemed like they were set up in groups where there were about 4 or 5 of them but only one had depth of knowledge. It was pretty bad. So how bad was it? Against a wall were the watches that you could play with. I thought the size was just right for me. I looked everywhere on the watch and on the iPad next to it in order to attempt to find the size of the watch. Then I looked at the other watches on that row and saw that none had a size displayed but all "seemed" to be the same size. So I started thinking, "Ok Angela - WTF did Tim pay you? sloppy - sloppy - sloppy" So I turned to the two salesmen and asked them what size the watches were and whether they were indeed all the same size. Basic non-technical question - right? They had no clue. They had to pull a manager over. I told them they were lucky I was an Apple fan because that was pretty bad. What do you think SJ would have done if he were me and asked that question? I was pissed. Bad form and quickly feeling like Angie Baby isn't paying attention to detail. Screw the email memos honey and roll up your sleeves and let's get this right! (Ok - sorry - had to get that off my chest!)

The thing was that it was such simple stuff. It infuriated me. I would venture to say that most people there were just walking in so if that's the case and the weakest link was standing by the walkins then it does not bode well. Very annoying and completely unacceptable. This was not rocket science....just efficiency, rather lack thereof...ugh.
Oh wait - almost forgot - said to the sales guy. "Boy you're so lucky! You get to buy one of these for 50% off! Bet you can't wait to buy one!" His response,"We don't know what our discount is ma'am." I looked at him incredulously and said, "Don't you read Mr. Cook's memos?...and please don't call me ma'am....I'm not a school marm" I gotta tell you - I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Did not have a pleasant experience other than to enjoy playing with the watch a bit but the human interaction was a disaster....do you hear me ANGIE BABY?! If I had her in front of me I would remind her that we women folk need to be just as good as any guy in postions but need to be able to do it in high heels and backwards just like Ginger Rogers...in other words... need to be BETTER!

Hold it - one more - a question was asked about warranties. The salesperson said the watch had Apple Care. A woman then asked if the bands had any kind of warranty. NO ONE had an answer. WTF?! One salesperson was sent to the back to make a call. You mean to tell me that NO ONE in the entire store knew the answer to that question? I don't think it's an "out there" type of question. Am I being obnoxious? I'm really annoyed tonight.

I ordered two watches early this morning and went to my local Apple store in Sarasota to see what i bought. Store was busy, but not one person was looking at the watch display. I asked to try one on and had to make an appointment. Only 15 minute wait. I wanted to try on the 42 MM stainless with sport band, which she could not find. She gave me the Sport watch which is lighter in weight, but she didn't know. She seemed pretty clueless. Any way, I did try on a few different watches and was very impressed. Sport band is very comfortable. I went back to the watch display case and there were now four people asking the Apple guy questions. I was surprised that he couldn't answer some questions and had to ask someone else. One lady was asking if she had to have her phone with her at all times to use the watch. I told her that one of the reasons I bought it was so I could add up to 2 GB of music on it and listen with wireless headphones without having my phone with me while I jog or workout. The Apple guy didn't know you could do that. The next thing I know, everyone is asking me questions. I think I sold a few.
