I went into the Apple Store thinking I was going to buy the Sport Watch. I have never spent more than $150 for a watch before, so $349 was a leap. Double that again for the stainless one seemed ridiculous.
I walked out ordering a $750 stainless steel watch.
That would never have happened with the iPhone or iPad. I would never pay double the price just to get a shinier edge. But a watch is part of my APPEARANCE, so appearance matters.
That sets up the watch to be a very big contributor to Apple's bottom line. Maybe someday bigger than the iPhone, which will never command a significant appearance premium.
And if that wasn't sweet enough for Apple, the watch makes the perfect Christmas gift, in a way that the iPhone could never be, tied to carrier plans. I had thought 2015 might be a down Christmas for Apple with no major new iPhone. Now I think this is going to be a holiday quarter for the record books.

So what's going to happen on launch day or the 24th of this month? Apple is still marketing the watch on its website as 4/24 and there are lots of folks who expect to wait in line and get something new and shiny on apples launch day - why wouldn't day - that what apple does for new products and then celebrates it via videos during keynotes. On the actual day of the 24th - there won't likely be any watches avail in stores yet people will still line up because it's a launch date. If apple puts up signs that there is no product - fans will be unhappy- lines will go away but media will start Their usual FUD. How can apple win here?

I'm sure they kept some product on reserve for the 24th...no? By the way, all 3 of my orders seem to have gone through. Well, at least I haven't been notified that anything has been cancelled. Today I am putting in an order for 2 more. I know I'm flirting with death but let's see what happens. I will use my husband's ID if I can't get it to go through but now I'm curious to see if it will go through. Will let you know what happens. Also, what's the deal with the Chinese Apple Pay launch being in limbo ... are these negotiating tactics or is there something to be concerned about here? Any thoughts?

Quick question about taxes and option spreads. Asking here because all the other threads are essentially dead.
If I had a bull call spread that expired worthless (both call options were out of the money on expiration day), and if I held the position for longer than a year, is it true that the gain on the short call is considered a short-term capital gain, while the loss on the long call is considered a long-term capital loss? Seems weird to me, but that is what is coming out of my brokerage into my tax forms. Help!

Here is a mechanical watch expert's review of the watch. I thought it fair and insightful.. The importance of analysis like this is that it gives us a look into the minds of non-tech types who love mechanicals. A large part of the second or third wave of potential buyers www.watch-next.com/week-with-apple-watch/

There is a badly hidden picture of the AppleTV in the middle of the WWDC "epicenter of change" picture.
Deliberately badly hidden. :-)

Regarding Watch Sales / Delivery. 1. Apple regularly delivers sooner than promised. Under-promise / over-deliver is part of the mantra. 2. Initial delivery estimates are always longer for new products than actual delivery. It is the rare exception (white iPhone) that it is not -- and even then I don't recall them missing delivery windows. Someone please help me here. 3. It is interesting to read of Apple's concern with lines at stores, particularly with regard to not having disappointed customers. Until recently there were still lines for the iPhone 6. That said, I have a hard time believing they will have no Watches in the stores, though the logisitcs, specifically product permutations, make this a big challenge. 4. Don't know how other folks are handle it, but I don't preorder Apple products because I generally get them faster through the stores. Again, not always the specific model I would have purchased. 5. Interesting to see Apple hemming and hawing on in store availability ( MacRumors). Boldly predict the Watch will be available in stores.

There have been many who speculate that the Apple TV is the obvious center and distribution point for HomeKit so I'm going with pikespique on this one.

The FUD-machine is reading Apples lack of presale announcement as evidence of disappointing sales. I heard one big WS analyst went on CNBC yesterday and estimated that apple only had 350,000 preorders over the weekend. Ridiculous - I think the members of this board bought almost that many by themselves.

"One big WS analyst" more likely wants to buy AAPL at $125 The suggestion that WATCH sales were mediocre is more proof of WS manipulation.

More information about Apple and IBM to tackle health care with Watson; Medtronic and Johnson & Johnson are also involved. I continue to believe that the IBM deal is the perfect vehicle to push Apple's markets beyond the consumer space and into Big Business around the world.

Yes, so if you've long term capital gain, better to just sell the long call before it becomes long term loss.

A while back we were wondering about the ability to upgrade the Edition version of the watch. Did anyone ask about this while they were trying them on?

Call wall at $130 is delaying the breakout from the triangle , patient. Even more calls @ $125. We'll stay here until next Monday. The differential between calls and puts @ 125 is only 15K. Last week 127's differential was 21K and the wall fell. 130 is +72K calls.

Tried on the watch at my local Apple Store (Fashion Valley, San Diego) yesterday. I decided to try a walk in as the online appointment scheduling system seemed to have issues. There was no wait. The watch is awesome, but the experience was a bit awkward and let's say a bit unpolished. I'm thinking that apple is using the period between the 10th and the 24th as a learning period for the store staff as well. I've already received a questionnaire from Apple about my experience. They are trying to get as much info as possible and shaping the experience accordingly.
Watches. The aluminum and steel are both nice. Aluminum is amazingly light. Steel (especially with the Milanese loop) feels more substantial and jewelry like.
Sport bands are super comfy and the Milanese loop is too. The bands totally change the character of the watch and my wife and I will likely have multiple bands.
We are small people and both preferred the 38's. My wife will be getting the modern buckle band. If you intend to do the same I would suggest going to the store and trying that band on. The small modern buckle band is VERY small. If I had preordered it I would be returning it for a medium.
Not sure what else I can offer that others haven't already. I'm happy to be in the first window for deliveries with an estimated delivery of April 24th-May 8th.
