The early surveys of who will buy an Apple Watch are meaningless in the long run. The public does not yet know or understand how it will enhance their lives (or not), and is still thinking of the device mostly as a stylish and expensive watch. It will take time to convince them otherwise, and I have my doubts about all the prognosticators saying that 40 million will be sold the first year. The ideas behind the watch as a notifier and medical device are too new for most to understand.
My wife often forgets to take her morning or evening medications, and I saw how an app could make an unobtrusive reminder by a tap on the wrist. That would enhance her life (if she remembered to charge the watch). For a person with diabetes, the sensor embedded in the skin that constantly monitors blood glucose levels would be so much more convenient than pricking a finger all day. Not having to haul out the phone for every little list and reminder would be wonderful.
I think the watch will be slower to catch on than many think, but in the end it points in a huge new direction for Apple.

I still wish they hadn't called it a "watch" ... it is so much more and will probably be used the LEAST to tell time. Wish they would have been more creative and called it something else and said, "Oh yeah...and it tells time too" Could have been called anything else. Why conform? To hear someone say - "Hey I just don't wear watches"....is silly. I will rarely use it for that. Hello marketing people?! You there?

(Oh, and the least used app on the iPhone is probably the phone, yet we still call it an iPhone) We talked about this back during the original announcement. The "watch" aspect is the ultimate skeuomorph. Just like the "phone" was for the pocket computer. On star trek the "badge" was certainly that, but it did so much more. My suggestions would be the Apple Link, Apple Band, or Apple Peel. Take a look back at the patents for a slap band ( USPTO with pics), with curved screen all the way around. That thing is more like a peel than a watch.

You would have thought that their bigger brains would have been a bit more creative...on a lighter note this protester who distrupted Mario Draghi in his news conference with her confetti...entertaining at the very least. PS Hey - WTF - My WATCH (number 5) just went through on my ID! What's going on? Anyone care to guess? Still a June delivery but WTF?! Didn't Mav say 2 per customer?

I think someday people will wonder just the opposite: How could anyone ever think the word "watch" was a good name for a miniature timepiece on your wrist. If you think about the word "watch", and think about what the word means (to monitor; to look at), then it is the perfect descriptive name for a device that does a lot more than tell the time. Think of the word "watch" as you would think of a personal assistant who closely monitors the larger device in your pocket or purse and keeps you advised about the things that are important to you. Apple is redefining the word "watch" back to its original purpose.

Glad to see you've cornered the market. I revised my June quarter estimate accordingly.

Apple is redefining the word "watch" back to its original purpose. +1 A watch is a clock due to popular definition, but a clock need not be a watch. There are many types and forms of clocks, which tell time by definition.....but can also be works of art. Watches Abd clocks are "timepieces". The Apple Watch is a timepiece and a work of art which at present is most easily understood by analogizing it to a wristwatch. This is how we as humans become comfortable with useage-first analogizing something new to something highly familiar. In my old marketing classes it was called "association fealty" - comfort thru association with a known. But this will change... Like the iPhone. But at first it's a "watch" in the traditional, comfortable sense.

Meanwhile, over the past month GOOG has gone from the 570s to 525 today due to the EU anti-trust case. My heart goes out to those who've pledged to do no evil... Yeh, right.

I really liked the article by Asymco yesterday about the watch. We have ours on the way of course but I also ordered a couple of really nice mechanicals (his & hers) for my 45 year retirement gifts from the company. I thought this would be the perfect test to determine if the iwatch is a life changer or not. If at the end of the year the mechanicals have been relegated to the dust bins of the watch drawer, I will have the answer. I am looking forward to the test.

Quick question. Does anyone know how to calculate IRR (using XIRR() function) in Excel for a short trade. In this case, I sold put options that will [probably] expire worthless soon. XIRR() works perfectly for all my other trades, it just doesn't work for trades in which the "sale" came before the "buy". I've suffered with this problem for many years and have yet to find a good solution.

Made a small bet on Netflix that turned out well but they did indicate a negative side which was due to the dollar. I hope that AAPL weathers that as well as NFLX.

Good for you platon! God will we ever get a reaction to like this ?! Even when they deliver the stock is up marginally but I can feel it wanting to breakout here - been good activity around the 130 strike these last few days

Guided tours are all greyed out for me. There's a link to them on Apple's front page, and none of them work? Pretty inexcusable, if you ask me.
