Nice charts! I have a few questions: 1. Chart 6, cash/sec as percentage of stock price. I think you mean as a percentage of market cap, right? 2. Chart 7, does "earnings per share" really mean anything in such a comparison? After all, if Apple hadn't split their shares, earnings per share would be $56 and it would appear to be a "win" for Apple despite no change in reality. 3. Chart 9, what does stock price have to do with anything? See comment above. Had Apple not split their shares, stock price would be $903 and would appear to be a "win" again despite no change in reality.

Of course EPS has meaning in the context of deriving share price, which is the answer to #3. EPS * PE = Share Price.

But it's a little confusing the title the chart "cash/sec" rather than "cash/sec per share". 2. Right. I was commenting on having share price alone in it's own chart. Also, for one of the stocks you listed there, that equation doesn't hold true

Thank you, wish we had the P/E from back in 2008, I could retire. A P/E of 50 would put AAPL in the $400 range, alas, it is not to be. Also thanks for the response regarding the OI.

Sec. as a % of Share price is more relevant at the shareholder level than to market capitalization, which is a fuzzy way to evaluate the worth on that scale. As pointed out in the comments, brand value + cash/mkt. sec. supports a good part of Apple's total value. The charts are blurry on PED's site and I've emailed PED a new set, but I'm not sure I have any energy left to futz with them more.

Nice going Merckel. You should have a Twitter Thanks. And no thanks. I think I'm done attempting to teach that P/E is not a gym class. The bottom row could have been used for other charts to show how favorably AAPL compares with the other three. Next time.

I posted this in the comments: I would like very much to see Apple just buy Amazon. Not because I believe in Amazon in any way, but I think it would be great to see the WS analysts try to reconcile these diametrically opposed irrational views. Can you imagine the sheer mental anguish? "It will all pay off in the future....unless it is a one trick pony....and we can grow forever without profit...but the law of large numbers...." I want to see exploding heads. Yes, exactly the thought I've been having as well but just couldn't put it into words the way you did.

For those of you with an Apple Watch -- the remote app on the Watch works very well! It was a cinch to set up and control Apple TV and content from my wrist. Now if I could just download an app that jettisons all the dumb Apple analysts to Mars...

The Commodore tries on the Apple Watch at the Gallery Lafayette in Paris. For those who have not had the pleasure of seeing this emporium in real life, it has boutiques of every fashion name you could imagine. Hundreds of names selling every high-priced handbag, blouse, coat, watch, jewelry, fragrance, etc. As a bull in the china shop (literally), I enjoyed the $12,000 emerald encrusted Prada handbag, the $700 Gucci sunglasses and something that looked like a skirt culled from a tiger/hippo love child. It went for $2450. I dragged the Commodore up to floor one to the seven tables of Apple Watches....two for the editions alone. After looking me over with just a hint of French disgust, Henri permitted me to try on the watches. ( I kid: he was great-knew his stuff and very enthusiastic). But when Henri and the Commodore got to work trying on bands, there was magic in the air. At some point the C gets a heartbeat designation on her sample watch and looks around for me with a smile on her face. Mon Dieu, it was not I. It was Henri, the sneaky devil....flirting with my wife by Apple watch! We watched many people expressing interest in buying the watch, right there, right then. Including the Edition ( hey, if you shop here for 2,000 dollar underwear, you can afford the edition). Alas....no stock. Perhaps in five weeks. Henri said the first day of actual walk in sales were a madhouse. They had about 200 watches. Sold..gone...poof...by noon or 1 p.m. After searching all my pockets I was allowed to leave the store. The C got the usual royal treatment with a promise from Henri to "message her again" when time and supply brought them together. On the way out I thought about getting a 900 dollar wallet for Mercel, but he has no money to keep in it, so I passed... Personally, I prefer the Denebian trading pits of Talus IV. No Ferenghi would charge $500 for a necktie.

More pics, Red! I'd keep an eye on Henri: He's probably pulsing the Commodore's wrist on the hour. A most excellent read that faded at the end (I'll take the wallet and a copy of the receipt).
