Hey Siri .... why did Apple choose to put a A8 in the Apple TV instead of the A9 ?
If games run better on the iPad or iPhone it won't really help replace traditional gaming consoles .... am I missing something ?

price point is my guess. It's very compellingly priced box for such an evolution and value. After a year of app development, next years with the A9 will be a killer upgrade and easer to maintain the sub $200 price.

That's what I figured ... but if Apple wants to revolutionize TV I wish they had settled on lower margins and went with real horsepower ... then again I'm no engineer so maybe the A8 will handle everything pretty well .... I'll assume that's the case. I agree with whomever posted earlier ... I think the Stock is just waiting to tank .... as soon as this ends I think we are going down. Typical. Then again ... maybe Cook will drive onto the stage in a new Apple Car ? ok ... maybe not . But I would like to see some "Carplay" action ....

Every other Apple device is "no holds barred" best hardware and the cost/price be damned. With Apple TV, save money (i.e. lower cost) using sub-standard hardware. Makes no sense. Not the Apple way IMO.

WS is missing this but the new Apple upgrade program will drive more sales than anything I can think of ..... that program is a game changer for sure !!!!!

I'd call anything above 110 a no sell-off.
But what happens tomorrow and beyond is a whole different story.

looks like the $100 pencil will only work on the PRO, not the iPhone.

Not the Apple way IMO. I'm guessing that Apple has a clue about the price sensitivity of the Apple TV market (after having dropped the price on the older one), crossed with the trade-off of price/performance and the current/upcoming app needs. Does it support 4k, or just standard 1080? I missed that part. If it's not 4k, it might not need it. It would have been interesting to see the high end version having the better chip, maybe at a little higher still, but they're trying to keep it easy. Either way, I'm sure it will be much quicker than the chips in my Vizio 65" smartTV. It's only 9 months old, but probably 21-24 month old technology. A set top box should blow away any smartTV technology. (Hey look, a concert, a set of living room mock-ups, and a few Apple employees to boot. It's a wonder what you can do with some extra space)

I'm usually not impressed with the bands that end Apple events but these guys are doing a great job.

I'd call anything above 110 a no sell-off. But what happens tomorrow and beyond is a whole different story. It all depends. Within half a percent of the S&P today would be good. After that, there might be a selloff in the morning, just to grab any weak shares out there, but then you often get some analysts weighing in and some buying. How much all depends too. I wouldn't expect too many 12 month targets to be raised since we're still a ways away from many. A 2-3% rise on a 1% for the market day would be a start.

I am sooooooo glad they kept the iPhone 6 & 6+ at lower price points. Some rumors had indicated these would be dropped/replaced I was worried.
Sales of the older model 6+ should do very well.

Calls are losing the premium that was attached to the event. Still, not too bad of a drop so far.
The next catalyst/sell-off will be after the announcement of the new iPhone launch weekend numbers.

Today when they demoed buying things on the new aTV, I thought to myself Apple should now create elegant, next-gen TV apps called Apple BUY and Apple SELL and obliterate Amazon and eBay just for kicks. With all those data centers, they now have the back end to support it as well as a pretty well polished store front or two to work with...
Well, I said I was daydreaming.

It looks like the 6 and 6+ are no longer available in gold, so if that is your color, you need to move up to the 6s or 6s+. Also, how long has the 5c been off of the apple store?
Random thoughts from a dumb bunny...
Tim needs to stop saying "this is the most powerful (best, innovative, or other adjective) iPhone we have ever made. Really? Better than the previous one? Who saw that coming? It reminds me of when my kids watched the Power Rangers, and every season they would trot out "The most powerful Zord ever". Like they would roll out one that sucked compared to the last one.
Get ready to read stories about the apple TV remote breaking someone's TV like the Wii remote when it first came out.
TV issues: Using Siri may be great, but I'm still self conscious using Siri when I'm not alone. "Siri, find me a movie with, ummmm, adult content?" Siri search will work as long as you have an idea of what you are looking for. How often do you channel surf without even considering what kind of show (comedy, syfi, drama, cop show in NY, cop show in Miami, cop show in space).
Plus side: I am glad that Apple is developing the TV and getting into the console gaming business. Also, the "other" category of profit should grow faster with additional options for the watch (multiple watch band sales).
iPad pro should be a great competitor to the surface, especially if it integrates better with Office. As someone said before, there better be a "find my pencil" app.
3D touch is going to catch on with the iPhone and begin to spread to the other lines next year (IMO). This will be a driver for upgrading iPad and iPod.
That is all for now. :dumb bunny hops away before JD comes in and shoots me:

Can anyone make heads or tails of the iphone pricing on apple's site? Most people buy phones through their carriers but it's much harder to figure out carrier pricing.
Disappointed that they had to take away the $199 price points for marketing / visual purposes, even though price to consumer per month won't really change.

I honestly can't image how an investor holding AAPL could decide to sell after seeing this event. What more could they have wanted?

Great products and product updates announced today. The place was packed with enthusiastic Apple fans and the press. By the writer's own admission, Apple will sell a ton of iPhones. But...the event lacked ZIZZLE. How do we know this? Because guests started leaving "...even while the closing act, One Republic, was still performing." Oh, and also because 8 years ago, Steve Jobs dissed products that had a stylus. And later, of course, he dissed the idea of a larger phone. But they didn't want to pile on.
Meanwhile, as I'm sure is true of others on the board, I'm looking forward to acquiring the iPhone 6S, the updated Apple TV and the iPad Pro.
====================== USA Today: Apple iPhone unveil lacks sizzle of past events
SAN FRANCISCO — Apple events typically are of the tent-pole blockbuster movie variety. Big news. Big guests. Big wow.
But Wednesday's iPhone update seemed more like another episode of the old Must-See TV: an incremental plot advancer for what has long been hottest tech show in the business.
Apple carted out new iPhones with force-touch technology. It made a play for the corporate market with a re-imagined iPad that was vouched for by a Microsoft executive onstage. It unveiled voice-activated commands for Apple TV. And it ended the show with a pop-rock band.
In a two-hour press event that made numerous nods to the enterprise market and the benefits of viewing video and game content on bigger digital displays, Apple stressed the bottom line: It has every intention of milking the iPhone juggernaut for the foreseeable future.
And sell, they will. The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus are expected to rack up hefty sales when they become available Sept. 25 for $199 to $499 with a two-year contract, or installment plans of $27 and $31 a month for 24 months.
But this isn’t Jobs’ Apple, whose era was marked by breathless announcements to stampeding attendees. This time around, guests started leaving even while the closing act, One Republic, was still performing.
This new era was vividly on display in front of 6,000 at the historic Bill Graham Auditorium. Product upgrades ruled the day, starting with the new iPad Pro, a larger version (12.9 inches) of the venerable tablet that now comes with a smart keyboard and stylus, called the Apple pencil.
Jobs famously dissed the idea of a stylus device when he introduced the original iPhone in 2007. He told biographer Walter Isaacson, "As soon as you have a stylus, you're dead."
