China mobile 4G customer numbers continue to grow at a good pace - 20.5M new customers in August. Just for comparison, in the last quarter (Apr-Jun) there were ~46M new 4G customers. In July and August there are ~40M new 4G customers, and we still have September ahead of us, including the 6S/6S+ launch. Very encouraging IMHO. www.chinamobileltd.com/en/ir/operation.php?section=number

Could anyone shed insight on why a developer would get Xcode from a source other than Apple? The argument is internet speed. Xcode is a large download - perhaps it's being moved around China on USB sticks or some other method. Am slightly seething this morning from Sky New's coverage here in the UK. They are running "Apple Store has been compromised" news items completely forgetting to mention China at all. GRRRR.

Regarding a possible Apple Car (or something related to vehicles, or something else *we* haven't thought of yet). Personally I am not yet convinced that Apple would want to enter that business (tends to be low margin, even at the higher end). Though I have little doubt they are doing plenty of car research for various purposes. But then I got to thinking, how much investment in R&D would it take to develop a car (or large portions of a car)? How much has Tesla spent so far, for example? Even if it's $5B, would we even notice (in financial statements, etc) such a relatively small sum over period of years?

IMHO: THE Volkswagen software engineers are evil geniuses! I would be very surprised if other car companies are not doing the same. You can be sure that every auto company out there is doing a QUICK audit to check if their software isn't doing anything even close to this. I haven't decided yet, but perhaps a good punishment is to make VW replace every one of those cars they sold with one that actually meets the specifications they printed on the original label. Plus a punitive fine of course.

Transit info for over 300 cities in China!
Maps in iOS9 seems to be a huge improvement over iOS8 in Shanghai.

No shipping info yet regarding our iPhone 6S that's due to arrive this Friday. But this morning we did get e-mail's from Apple with the subject "AppleCare+ Welcome Kit. The e-mails included the serial #'s for our new iPhones, the coverage period end date (09/19/17) and the policy number. Did anyone get a shipping notice yet?

OK, one more, then I gotta do some actual work. learnbonds.com/123432/apple-inc-nasdaq-aapl-iphone-6s-survey-shows-eager-buyers/Heh heh: "In a report published on Monday morning, research house Baird said that upgrade intent was much higher this time around than at the same time last year. The firm’s survey of iPhone owners found that the number of users planning to upgrade to the latest version of the smart phone was up 28 percent year over year. In its August poll the firm found that 22 percent of iPhone owners were planning to upgrade.
Baird looks for strong iPhone 6S sales
Baird says that it expects Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) to Outperform in the year ahead, and put a price target of $155 on the shares. iPhone 6S sales are, before the device has arrived in stores, a mystery, but that won’t stop Wall Street trying to figure out what’s going to happen with the device."

After holding Apple stock for many years, I sold a couple of years ago because I wasn’t interested in owning a stock that simply traded like a cellphone company, always dependent on the next quarter’s iPhone sales. But this news regarding an electric car inspired me to buy back in. This feels more like the technology company I owned before the iPhone became such a dominant part of the business.

Considering the fact that September should include some of the 6S/6S+, I find it hard to believe that we'll see a decline to 18M. We can definitely see 22M or even 25M. BTW, comparing YoY, the entire quarter (July, August and September) reached 27M

So I was going to post something sarcastic like: "Huh, okay, so this is what it takes to make Apple pop a bit?! An Apple moonshot car coming sooner? Buy! Apple selling 80 million iPhones over the next few weeks? Yawn!"But then I read Merenkov's post: "After holding Apple stock for many years, I sold a couple of years ago because I wasn’t interested in owning a stock that simply traded like a cellphone company, always dependent on the next quarter’s iPhone sales. I'll go first. Will Tesla be acquired by Apple as a way to get a jumpstart? Obviously the "What would happen to Elon Musk?" question is likely a major factor.

I've wracked my brain trying to understand why Apple would get into the low margin auto industry. Could it be they solved the battery issue, made a quantum leap in fuel cell tech, developed the next gen driverless car artificial intelligence or a new disruptive assembly process.
I just can't figure out how on earth Liquidmetal and Saphire screens play into the next generation vehicles.
