Good morning everyone. Asia is RED. The Nikkei dropped over 4.8%. Meanwhile Europe and the US are GREEN. AAPL is GREEN as well, trading at $94.20 +0.50 (0.53%) Strangely quiet in the news this morning. Macalope has Prolonging the magic: ‘Error 53’ story becomes the story. Max Pain still showing $91 for this week and $97.50 for next. Have a great day. Let's make money.

Post by Apple II+ on Feb 12, 2016 7:28:35 GMT -8
Yesterday Since84 asked what we're doing with our dividends. I'll get a pizza tonight. And with the leftovers I helped kids in high poverty public schools get iPads for their classrooms, paid for my trip to the Apple shareholder meeting in 2 weeks, and bought some more shares (no targets). So, my son goes to one of those high poverty schools. It's actually a great school district, despite limited resources and our city's financial straits. Some of us are doing fine (obviously), but I was shocked to learn the true extent of the economic disparity when we got community eligibility for free meals for every kid in the school. Please ignore this if it's not your cup of tea, but I get a great feeling helping these kids and maybe someone here would too. When I was in third grade they put me in front of an Apple II Plus. It changed my life and it's why I post here as Apple II+. I spent years on the Apple II's at school and at the public library, playing, learning, coding. We couldn't afford one at home for a long time, so I'm a big supporter of getting iPads into classrooms in early grades. It may be the only place these kids have access to any kind of computer for years, and what better computer for them than the iPad! If you're interested in sending these kids a Valentine this weekend, here's a link with a variety of projects across the country, some for iPads, some for other stuff. www.donorschoose.org/applepieThe non-profit charity website is DonorsChoose.org, and they do an excellent job vetting the schools and their fundraisers. A lot of these will match donations, including this one at my son's school if you use the promo codes EMPOWER or LIFTOFF through Monday: www.donorschoose.org/project/ilearn-with-ipads/1859070/Thanks!

So frustrated to see this. Analyst (thats Wall Street is it not) are so much more bullish toward than any of the fang stocks. Short term herd mentality will not seduce me. yet.

In other news, Amazon is up another one and half percent today riding on their buyback news. Maybe Apple should think about doing that?

Maybe Apple should think about doing that? www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1018724/000101872416000176/amzn-20160210x8k.htmOn February 10, 2016, the Board of Directors authorized the Company to repurchase up to $5 billion of the Company’s common stock. The program allows the Company to repurchase its shares opportunistically from time to time when it believes that doing so would enhance long-term shareholder value. The repurchase authorization does not have a fixed expiration. Purchases may be effected through one or more open market transactions, privately negotiated transactions, transactions structured through investment banking institutions, or a combination of the foregoing. This stock repurchase authorization replaces the previous $2 billion stock repurchase authorization, approved by the Board of Directors in 2010.
Did they EVER buy back shares in the last 6 years?

Did they EVER buy back shares in the last 6 years? Have they actually been making excess cash? I thought their earnings have been tight for ever.

I'm not sure why Wall Street isn't questioning their move more than they are. Amazon's raison d'etre is essentially to plow the vast majority of their cash flow into new businesses and into expanding existing businesses (and that has been working spectacularly for them). This is almost the opposite.

I think they are either borrowing for Buybacks or using accounts payables float. Probably whichever makes the least amount of financial sense or is the most shady deal.

Haha! And you thought it wouldn't pin.
That's funny.
And cute.
But mostly funny.
(And by funny, I mean sad.)

Let's hope this is just the tip of the iceberg of great Apple programming to come. It's interesting this will reportedly be distributed on Apple Music. So does this mean the $9.99/month subscription fee will grant access to lots of exclusive video content? I suppose we'll see how this develops...

With all the dividend-inspired pizza buying, Little Caesars (CZR: Nasdaq) may be a short-term play? That's about all the pizza I can swing. Had my run-in with Apple Music today. Tried playing a radio station that I created back in the good old days. It refused to play anything without an Apple Music subscription. Apparently the grace period is over.
