Here is a late quote from Bill Gates: “You don’t just want to take the minute after a terrorist event and swing that direction, nor do you want to completely swing away from government access when you have some abuse,” he said. “You want to strike that balance that the United States leads and setting an example.”
That is exactly my point, and there is a need for balance, and balance does not allow Muslim or right-wing terrorists the right to absolute privacy.

As the public debate rages on, a number of government officials -- notably including former NSA chief Michael Hayden -- have cautioned that this issue must be dealt with thoughtfully, lest it lead to unintended consequences:
"Look, I used to run the NSA, OK?" Hayden told USA TODAY. "Back doors are good. Please, please, Lord, put back doors in, because I and a whole bunch of other talented security services around the world -- even though that back door was not intended for me -- that back door will make it easier for me to do what I want to do, which is to penetrate."

Of course, one could always say that the guy who used to be the NSA Chief just doesn't understand the issue.
