Good morning everyone, The Nikkei and Europe are GREEN, everything else is RED. Shanghai dropped 6.4% and we thought AAPL was volatile. US markets are modestly RED, as is AAPL. Plenty of room to turn around. AAPL is trading at $95.99 -0.11 (-0.11%) In the news: Foxconn acquires Sharp. Stories at CNN/Money, WSJ [$], Quartz and others. in the market, Sharp fell 14%. CNBC has This is the biggest worry for Apple, Samsung. AppleInsider has Apple developing iPhone and iCloud encryption that counters FBI-requested workaround. Credit.com via Yahoo has Why Apple Is Right to Protect Your Privacy. Have a great day. Let's make money. *** A note on political discussions: Concern is raised from time to time when the board veers into political discussions. Unfortunately, politics are not a separate and distinct sphere that can be easily compartmentalized. Politics are intwined with our daily lives, impacting everything, often subtly other times not so. And yes, politics does impact finance. Wall Street is a frequent issue in the Presidential race and with our favorite fruit company. It influences and shapes our discussions on many topics; earnings repatriation, anti-trust cases, and security to name a few 'hot' ones. The purpose of this board is to discuss Apple as an investment. To the extent the political debate is related to Apple as an investment, it is germane. Particularly when the impact of policy decisions have nuances which may result in subtle unintended consequences, it is vital that we have as robust a discussion as possible. Please remember that different perspectives are why we come here. Challenge facts, opinions and conclusions -- that's constructive debate. Please be respectful of the people expressing them. Remember, the existence of different perspectives ultimately makes or breaks the Board. Some have stopped posting as a result of personal attacks. The Board is poorer for it. That said it is easy to digress into political debate that has little relation to Apple as investment. Please refrain. If you feel a need to respond consider doing so in the dungeon or through PM. Thanks. Since84

I was watching a show where the question was posed, "If TC had been told that the phone contained the plan for an Apple Store massacre at several sites and it was time sensitive - would he still take the same stance?" Interesting.

Bad choice of words on Tim's part.

Interesting. Jack Bauer would get Tim to change his mind and would stop the massacres within 24 hours.

Interesting. I think hypothetical questions like this directly imply that Cook and Apple don't care enough that 14 people were brutally murdered and many more could be at risk. That isn't what came across at all listening to Tim Cook's interview yesterday, Rather a very conflicted decision that rewriting the iOS code would have much larger ramifications than this case alone.

Bad choice of words on Tim's part. Respectfully disagree. By definition, cancer spreads uncontrollably. That is what he is referring to.

Actually that wasn't the spirit in which this was brought up ... I believe they were trying to evoke the Socratic method of debating which can be very insightful. Here's the interesting part - the set became very silent and no one really spoke or attempted to answer the question. It was interesting. As for TC, if the public can't see how caring a CEO and American he is, they are blind. There are good arguments on both sides but he makes a very compelling and convincing argument. IMHO.

Ditto ! As mentioned by another post, Tim is a caring man and American.

I can't answer your question but the one I use every day is pretty decent: finance.yahoo.com/q/h?s=AAPL+HeadlinesJust please resist the temptation to visit the "Message Boards", listed on the side panel. It's "Crazy Town".

Apple is holding their shareholder’s Annual Meeting tomorrow. Having attended the last four shareholder’s Annual Meetings I'm anticipating that tomorrow’s meeting has the potential to be the most "interesting" yet. With the stock doing so poorly over the last year and the current controversy pitting Apple against the FBI’s court order, I’m expecting that there will be comments from Tim Cook and/or questions/comments from shareholders that will make attendance worthwhile. Are any other board members, local to Cupertino, who have plans to attend tomorrow’s meeting. If so, I’d love to met you before or after the meeting. I know of at least one other member who’s flying out to attend the meeting. Cheers to the, sadly, diminishing number of AAPL Longs on the boards!!

Lucky choices I wish I were joining you in Cupertino tomorrow. Please give us a first person perspective. I'll be happy to do that, Since84, but it won't be timely. Last year we had to check our iPhones upon entering so the press will release info before we even pick up our phones after the meeting. Well, even though we were all Apple shareholders, I can't say everyone checked in iPhones, but I do recall checking it. Actually, come to think of it, not all of us had to check our phones because I noticed Jesse Jackson Jr., sitting two rows down and off to my right, making a call prior to the start of the meeting. Was it an iPhone? No. Android. Nope. Flip phone. See what I mean? First person perspective but one year late.

Really quite upset at myself for not getting to Cupertino this year. I'll miss everyone as I continue to ship my new book from an RV park west of El Paso. Stock performance being what it is, I must shill cheap copy to pay for my Keurig pods each morning. Thanks in advance for reports from the meeting, and the AFB contingent after-party. (Remember, there is a AFB member gathering thread down in the Peanut Gallery.) ~ Rez

I'm curious as to the shareholder reaction to the stock price and how much of that reaction will be directed at the board. Remember, you as stockholders get a vote on the board. Use your right and express your pleasure/displeasure

A couple of posts from last year just prior to the shareholder's Annual Meeting. Hey, wait a minute! I believe 4aapl is supposed to be attending this meeting tomorrow...oh, wait...he did say unless it's epic skiing. Next year, no excuses, 4aapl!

One of the more effective FUD generation machines after CNBC is Google Finance. If you look at Apple on their site, you get a list of current "headlines" These are always hit pieces from sites like "Valuewalk" that, IMHO are paid to slam Apple daily. The latest techique has been developed by a site named "The Hilltop News" Yea, I know. They cherry pick hdge funds who are selling Apple and feature them with a headline like "Randolph Funds are Dumping Apple" The weak article reveals of course that the fund sold 300 shares. That's right a whole 300. out of 190,000+ that it owns. Of course to those just reading the headlines, the picture is quite different. This kind of FUD has been Googles mainstay since the war on Apple started. I don't know how those guys can look at themselves. Please Tim, kick Google off the iDevices
