So is the down 44 cents because the dividend does not go to people who buy today, or does it not go to those who buy tomorrow?

You needed to own the shares by end of trading yesterday to receive the dividend. I think, strictly speaking, you have to own them by the end of the option exercising period yesterday. Not sure if that is 8pm or 10pm or midnight. It's why I monitor my short calls (and my long calls in case it is worth exercising them to capture the dividend) like a hawk the day/evening before ex-div.

TSLA is amazing. Anyone else announces those results and they are down 10-20%, and everyone is asking for the head of the CEO. I mean, they flat out said that can't borrow any more from their current lender after losing $1B this quarter.

It reminds me of Amazon and Netflix before they multiplied. Elon musk is selling the future to results today don't mean as much. I think they have a wide open market in front of them. This one is tricky to trade options in other than getting juicy weekly cash flow from selling covered calls against my long position.
