Well then AAPL finished up for the day but down for the week. Considering all the negative press could have been worse.
Here's rickag's view of taxes, probably previously expressed but I am filing a patent er um no a design patent aaahhh maybe a copyright:
Everyone is familiar with the shell game, right. So your walking down the street and a con artist is running the shell game with a little variation. The sells are labeled. Curious as we all are I begin to play, that makes me the "rube". The con places the pea under a shell does their thing and I must pick the shell with the pea under it. I watch dutifully and pick the shell labeled "Personal income tax". Oops, no it was under the shell labeled " Social Security tax". Now, I am better prepared so we go again, I pick the shell labeled "Medicare tax" buzzzzzz, wrong again, pea found under the shell labeled "Corporate Income tax". In frustration, I snatch the pea away from the con to examine it to determine the trick being used. In very fine print on the pea, something catches my feeble 65 year old eyes. Squinting as hard as I can, written on the pea in elegant scrip is "rickag's wallet".

I found this summary on Reddit about the improvements from the iPhone 7 compared to an iPhone 6 or below, which is the target market for upgrading:
That's actually quite an impressive list. The decision to upgrade will consider these things and weigh them against reasons against upgrading:
Not a "new" design Elimination of headphone jack No reason to upgrade - iPhone 6 still runs fine
I'm still on the fence about how successful the iPhone 7 is going to be. KGI is forecasting a meagre 65 million iPhone 7s to ship by the end of the year, which would be disaster. Last years number was 82 million. I think the number will be higher than 62 just because of the eligible upgrade base, but I don't know if it can eclipse last year.

For what it's worth... while Ming-Chi Quo (KGI) has good accuracy on specs, he's got a bad track record on shipment estimates. While the "same old design" FUD has made me a bit concerned, I feel pretty sure Apple won't release a boring upgrade. That should translate into much better unit sales than his projections. I'm particularly interested in the light-field tech. If they've got any sort of Lytro type features, it'll lead to lots of upgrades IMO.

62 million iPhone 7, does not include SE, 6 and 6s.
82 million iPhone 6s last year same period? Sure the number is correct?

Right now I am modeling 79-81 million total iPhones for 1st quarter.
WS is looking at about 75 million.
We will all know come Oct.

Could the lack of physical change to the iphone 7 have something to do with the fact that Apple finally made their own external battery case which has (I think) a huge profit margin and will fit a 6-6s and now the 7...

I think the waterproofing will be a big driver for people. I know some competitor models have had waterproofing for a while, but for iPhone owners already in the ecosystem I think the idea that you could drop your phone in the sink (toilet?) or use it in the rain without worrying will be a big reason to upgrade.

For me, last longer and larger storage for same price.
