Yesterday's NYC news had a segment on a 6 year old holding a Samsung that exploded. Folks are ditching their Samsung's asap and getting iPhones. AAPL got really lucky here with respect to timing...the Samsung issues happening at the same time as the launch. If I saw it in a movie I would nudge my husband and say, "Yeah sure that doesn't happen in real life - timing is too perfect!" But hey, I 'd rather be lucky than good any day of the week! PLUS - you know how addicting Apple products are once you have them. These folks will not be going back any time soon if at all. Welcome over from the dark side - love having you 😉

Both Sprint and T-Mobile stating they're seeing a nearly 4x YoY increase in sales.

Please note - Sprint is reportedly comparing the increase vs last year's 6's launch and not the 6.
Even if Legere is exaggerating demand, it was brilliant of him to troll his competitors by releasing the info (and Apple gets a benefit).

Let me get this straight. A bunch of highly paid analysts making predictions about apple sales based purely on conjecture were... Wrong?
Say it isn't so.

This market is crazy and glad I am all in at this crazy time.
Let's see if we can make a run to 112 in the next few days. If we see long lines come Friday, we may even make a run to 115.
Volume today bodes well for more upside, especially if the market turns around as well.
I like the fact at TMobile is forcing Verizon to lower its prices and up the data.
The iPhone is the lifeline for the carriers and they know it. Some bought plenty of phones while others weren't so sure of demand.
If Apple can push their upgrade plan more aggressively this year, we could be in for a nice upgrade cycle in the next 3 years. Carriers will be forced to give upfront discounts and low monthly payments.

Just anecdotal stuff but I know a few people who are actually upgrading, many of which own very old iPhones ... (5, 5s etc)
I have a 6 and will probably buy one as well although I really want the nice camera I simply can't own a large phone so I'm stuck with the 7.
I think international sales are a huge factor in the sales of the last few iPhones so while I'm happy to hear about the domestic sales I'd really love to know how it's doing worldwide. Regardless I feel Apple's dominance will last for several more years and I'm pretty optimistic about the future. Let's hope this country gets the tax code worked out, ironically this decision by the EU may really get the ball rolling on that front. NO party is going to enjoy watching Ireland receive this windfall of taxes that could have easily gone into this country .... I say it ends very soon and I'm looking forward to some version of a one time tax holiday that Lew spoke about.
BTW, as a person who believes in Karma .... watching Samsung couldn't be more fun. I know I'm not supposed to revel in other's misfortune but there is quite a bit of "reveling" here : )
Cheers to the longs .

If Apple can get their cash back to the US and reach a deal where Elon Musk goes away if they buy a stake in Tesla, then I think there is a good chance we will completely buy Tesla in the next 3 years. Then by 2021 Apple can come out with their first car. Just like Beats they sell their own headphones and that of Beats.
It is not my original idea, but the more I think about it and learn what a mess Elon is, the more possible it becomes.

This news about the preorders makes me a lot more confident in the strength of the install base, at least in the US. Keep in mind the US carriers are offering some really good promos that are not seen elsewhere.
Due to similar design margins are going to be good. ASPs will also be strong, helped by the $20 bump for 7 Plus. Apple has also adjusted prices to reflect exchange rates, so FX impact in terms of ASPs should be minimal.
My concern like many is international sales. The USD strength is really a cause for concern. In Canada, the cheapest iPhone 7 now goes for over $1,000 after tax, where a few years ago it was in the low $700s. And it's not like wages have increased since then. The people I know are very reluctant to spend this amount of money when their existing phone is functional. Subsidies don't help much at all and there are no compelling offers like there are in the US. I suspect this is the case in many other countries as well where the local currency has devalued against the USD.
Earnings next month will be huge. A beat and guidance that implies YoY growth will all but confirm revenue growth for the next two years (if 2017 iPhone rumours are at least somewhat accurate), and I believe the stock will act accordingly. Weak guidance will make people continue to question the iPhone 7 and there could more rocky times ahead. But after seeing the improvements Apple made and the news from the US carriers, I'm a lot more optimistic now than I was a few weeks ago.

Now the "low supply" articles are coming ... man I can't stand the idiots on Wall Street. The coverage of Apple is completely driven by "click baiting" and couldn't be further from accurate or well researched.
AAPL is damned if they sell too many or too little .... sheesh .

I was flying a redeye early Sunday morning out of Seattle. At the gate the airline representative announced that people should not turn on or plug in their Samsung Galaxy 7 Notes. Then she went on to say "Better yet, leave them in the trash can, 'cause we don't want them on our plane"!"

This is Samsung's "Tylenol moment" can they pull out of the nose dive and save the brand? In a few years, this will be used by MBA classes and by marketing classes as an example. Question is will this be an example of what not to do, or how to save a company from a catastrophic event.

As much as I'm loving this, we need to all realize that this could really happen to anyone, including Apple. With the myriad of suppliers it is inevitable that there are going to be some faulty parts, and Apple's been affected many times (mostly in laptops). Just nothing so severe as exploding batteries. Another reason I would caution against being "all in" on a single company, no matter how good they are.

Samsung has a fix. They will limit the battery to only 60% of the capacity. I'm sure all the users will be happy with that solution.
