I'd prefer for Apple to buy Disney than get into a bidding war for Time Warner. Probably a better fit too.

I'd prefer for Apple to buy Disney than get into a bidding war for Time Warner. Probably a better fit too. Both ATT and TWX CEOs were on this morning and implied that AAPL kicked the tires but emphatically said there were no other bidders. So I don't think AAPL dove into it in great depth - probably took a snapshot - didn't care for what they saw on the surface and moved on. The media is the one pimping up the interest...you know how it is - gotta get those ratings higher!

I'm glad they're at least kicking the tires. Content is the future, and these content companies are profitable and actually have reasonable valuations. It would help Apple greatly in pushing their Services business while providing instant revenue and profit.

Anyone remember when AOL bought Time Warner? Remember the $54 BILLION dollar right off AOL took in 2002? Same arguments that the pipeline (AOL = T) that controls content (TWX) will be king. Please AAPL, don't buy this fool's gold.
Disney (ESPN & Pixar) is a much better fit.

Anyone heard news on how well iPhones are selling in China? “iPhone 7 interest [is] tepid … [UBS China] distributor checks find that iPhone 7 sales are weaker than the 6s was out of the box [after launch],” wrote analyst Steven Milunovich of UBS in a note to clients on Thursday. “Apple [is] losing share to domestic handsets … Apple’s brand remains strong, but the App Store can be difficult to access and slow.” Also saw another story that one Chinese company forbade employees from buying iPhones under threat of firing. But I would bet that the more affluent crowd are still buying enthusiastically for the status.

Hey !!!! Are you listening? PROTOTYPES Jetsons-style flying saucer may soon be a reality Link can't be fixed Crap www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-drive/culture/technology/jetsons-style-flying-saucer-may-soon-be-a-reality/article32468435/Jetsons-style flying saucer may soon be a reality The concept The Jetson is a jet-powered flying saucer inspired by the Jetsons cartoon, which aired in the 1960s. This flying recreational vehicle could be used to fly over your private property or commute to work over short distances. It could also be developed for the entertainment industry (racing at airshows) or for military missions. Renderings provided by Charles Bombardier The background When the Flyboard hoverboard was shown to the public in early April, it took the world by surprise showing it could fly at speeds close to 160 km/h and go as high as 3,00 metres for ten minutes. A lot of people thought it was a trick, but when Franky Zapata smashed a Guinness World record, things took a serious turn. It’s now possible that we might actually be able to build a Jetsons-style flying car in the next few years. How it works The ‘Jetson’ would be the size of a standard side-by-side vehicle. It could carry only one passenger for safety and fuel consumption reasons. The vehicle would have five jet thrusters located under its fuselage. Two fuel tanks would be located inside the frame on opposing sides, and two additional spaces would be used to store cargo. An onboard flying system would help control and stabilize the Jetson automatically. The pilot would need to take flying lessons to learn how to pilot the flying saucer and learn aerodynamics, air regulations, weather, etc. The Jetson would have four landing legs. We have shown retractable legs, but it might be safer to add wheels. Of course, the Jetson would be equipped with navigation and position lights, strobes, LED landing lights and an easy-to-read dashboard. The overall shape of the Jetson would be optimized to create more lift when it’s flying horizontally and save on fuel. The Jetson should be designed so it could stay airborne if one of its jet thrusters failed, so the number of thrusters could be increased and other back up security systems could be incorporated in the design. For instance, the flying saucer could be equipped with a parachute in case some of its jets malfunctioned, and interior or exterior airbags could be placed on the aircraft. What it’s used for The Jetson flying saucer could be used as a commuting vehicle authorized to fly in dedicated airspace corridors. Currently the jets are quite noisy, so it might prove difficult to receive the authorization to fly it in downtown city locations. These vehicles could also be used in extreme racing events or demonstration flights. The military may also have a few ideas to test—or we might see one in an upcoming movie. The designer I would like to thank Adolfo Esquivel, who created the 3D renderings of the Jetson. Esquivel holds a degree in industrial design and currently works in Montreal as an industrial designer for Beam me up games. He is also the author of the Motowalk people mover and the Metropolis police patrol drone. Follow us on Twitter: @globedrive Note

Apple may be indirectly conceding that, without the pipes to deliver content, it can't compete with Netflix (or Chromecast), at least not with a discrete hardware box. Apple TV has been around 10 years in January, and only sold 25M and is still listed in "other" in earnings. Meanwhile, Google is giving away Chromecasts and has sold 30M in 2 years. (I bought one for $20 on sale at Staples last year). More significantly, Google is now licensing the hardware directly into TV's. My new 80" Vizio SmartCast TV comes with Google Cast built in, as does Vizio's soundbars (I bought this 5.1 bundle). Vizio (HQ'd like 6 miles from my home in Irvine) is the largest LCD TV seller in North America. Sony, Sharp, Toshiba, and Philips are also licensing Google Cast, which I'd imagine Google is giving away like Android. That's a lot of goddamn TV's. And it can all be app-driven from my iPhone (or Vizio's included Android tablet remote) instead of the old apps-built-into-set dumb Smart TV paradigm. Remind me why I need to buy an Apple TV, when my iPhone can stream Netflix directly to my Smart TV out of the box? I don't even need my Minix box anymore. Or my Chromecast, for that matter. If Tim Cook isn't sweating this development, he should. I hate Android and Google, and I've been long AAPL for like 23 years, and yet here I have two Google devices lurking in my entertainment center. I can see going after Disney for movies, but I hate ESPN. It's a bloated tumor on all cable bundles; whether you like sports or not, you're paying a lot for it if you have cable or Sat. Eventually, a la carte/streaming/casting is going to kill ESPN and all of cable and Sat. People are already tuning out the NFL. Granted, you can thank Colin Kaepernick for a lot of that brand-murdering. Streaming & casting is the future, people. And it's built into modern TV's. How does Apple crack that nut when Google is giving it away? An expensive TV? People won't buy those every 2 years like an iPhone, so maybe Apple missed the boat here...
