Good morning everyone.
Fascinating morning as the world and markets absorb and digest the election news. Asia is very RED. The Nikkei is down 5.36%. Europe is RED, off about 1% but the FTSE is only down 0.07%. The US is RED, down about 2% in premarket. AAPL is also RED trading at $108.76 -2.30 (-2.07%).
Let's see where it goes from here. Nothing beyond the election in the news this morning.
Have a great day. Let's make money.

I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but I've never been more proud not to be American and to know that a man like Trump would never be allowed to lead my country. I wish you all the best - it's going to be an interesting few years.

Markets are still RED, but coming back. Perhaps Mr. Market has decided Trump isn't so bad...

Oh well, so much for the "800 point drop" in futures...

Just imagine Apple having 200 billion cash in hand here in a few months

Trump presidency is good for bringing back international cash but bad for continuing to generate international cash. China is already a huge problem and Trump is only going to make things worse. My outlook for Apple in China is grim.

Well, the thing is this... nobody knows YET the actual way in which he will handle political affairs. If he continues his circus and tries to run the country thinking it's the same as running his business then there will be fireworks of the bad kind. But maybe better sense will prevail and with good guidance (which he takes), we might just have a political leader who actually HAS THE BALLS to make things happen which others have only wished they could do.
For starters, we'll take a repatriation tax reform, please.

Socially though, I think the country is screwed. The clock will be turned back half a century while the rest of the world moves forward.

Well I was shocked as many here. I did not vote for him and was certain HC would kick his butt. Clearly he tapped into a movement that did not show in the polls. Now that he is in charge, it is time to wish him the best. I think Apple is selling off because of his views on China. The market is recovering. He is a businessman who made his stuff in China. I don't think much will change, since the R congress will keep him in check. I do expect him to help Apple get the cash home. He wants to build infrastructure and Apple will do it.

Socially there will be few changes as Trump is socially in the middle, right and left on many issues. The supreme court will no longer be a threat to the constitution though. IMO
I'm not sure this tariff on imports will be applied to existing imports that are manufactured by american companies outside the US. Applied only to future moves by companies, but those companies will have the incentives to to play nice here at home. Then again there will probably be loopholes for companies with overseas operations to avoid import taxes, complicated...who knows. Latest moves by to manufacture in india is probably problematic. Need to wait for clarification as policy continues to be applied. Imo

That's not allowed in this country. So proud that America did the right thing last night instead of the easy thing. My only regret is that I couldn't trade futures. So easy to see this swing coming.

Tuffet - what great nation are you from? Canada. We've had plenty of people with policies and beliefs I don't agree with, but never such a completely repulsive human being like Donald Trump. He probably wouldn't get more than 20% of the vote here.

The DOW is GREEN, the S&P is GREEN, the NASDAQ is GREEN... Can AAPL close GREEN? Down 0.16% not as good as the indexes being up 1%+ but a lot better then TSLA's -2.5%. Looks like stocks related to solar/green energy was hit hardest.

Looks like stocks related to solar/green energy was hit hardest. Thanks for the perspective. It is always about adding value. As with Apple and the brand premium, perhaps solar is starting to become a commodity product, as in "everybody has one." No more government subsidies for high-end tech, because the economies of scale have finally moved the price into attainable territory. There is a lot of future benefit to be had if solar and offline storage can replace electric generation capacity. The cottage I'm renting for the winter is 100% electric. Heat, cooking, lighting, cooling are all dependent on the grid. This region has one of the highest cost areas on the planet for electrical generation. If the house had a 5MW array on the roof, there would be NO cost to anyone to keep the place at 25ºC all winter, and no emissions! This is the future, if we can get there soon: big initial sunk cost for long lifecycle benefits. Kinda like Apple hardware.

Green markets close, of course, just as I said. Just wait for the pro-growth tax and regulatory policies to kick in. Oh boy is this great!
On a personal note, I know what it's like to wake up thinking my country has been ruined, so I'm trying to have some empathy here. But every time I try to be magnanimous to the other side, I read what a scumbag I am for expressing my point of view at the ballot box. Honestly, many on the left are making it hard to reach across the aisle. I truly believe Trump was better for America and the investor class than the alternative. I could be wrong, but I truly believe it. If I am right, let's all profit, as a rising tide lifts all ships.
God Bless America.

I have heard so many people talking bout leaving the country to live in Canada or Mexico that I finally understand how Trump is going to get Mexico to pay for building a wall

I could be wrong, but I truly believe it. If I am right, let's all profit, as a rising tide lifts all ships. God Bless America. You're not a scumbag for expressing your point of view on policies at the ballot box. But you can't blame people for seeing some scumbags being a big factor in the election. Trump is a scumbag for a lot of his statements, actions, and positions. Many Trump supporters say that. That doesn't make most of his supporters scumbags. Different supporters will have different reasons. Racism, for example, although obviously a factor, is something a supporter could weigh against tax policy or abortion and choose to support Trump despite Trump's own racism or, more generously, his deliberate efforts to benefit from racist voters. Similarly with sexual assault, misogyny, etc. It's called compartmentalizing, and it doesn't make you a scumbag if you vote solely on policies. No doubt some scumbag supporters did vote because of racism, etc. And it seems likely that more scumbags than usual were a big enough factor to change the election this time. Compartmentalizing can help those of us who opposed Trump, too. Trump has a nasty habit of not keeping certain things in their compartments, so that makes me nervous. But I'm hopeful he'll succeed with some good policies and will turn away from his worst attributes.
