Since84, thanks for the morning information. It is fascinating how involved Apple is getting with the FDA, based on the MobilHealthNews article.

Has the consistent negativity killed this forum? Mostly I think AAPL being range bound limits topics to be discussed.

I do think the iPhone 7 is good, and that Apple made the right call on the audio out jack. The thinness of the phone is nice. Although the phone is large, 5.5", the thinness is a bit elegant. I think it will do well over time.

What to talk about? Headwinds are all macros, anti-Apple journalists are twisted them into Apple specific issues.
US dollar rallies strongly. Treasury rate appreciates very fast. Sore losers complaining about Trump win. Uncertainty surrounding what Trump would do.

There is always money to be made in options. I have never been a buyer, but right now seems like an attractive time to be buying a strangle. Volatility is low so the price is cheap and there seems to be potential for a large move over the next 6 months one way or the other. Any thoughts on this? As I said, I am not usually an option buyer, just a seller.

Has the consistent negativity killed this forum? Well, since the doldrums of AAPL have led to a discussion stalemate between the local bulls and bears, let me pose a capricious subject for debate. Why is the new Apple campus usually referred to as the "Spaceship"? To me, the term implies something that launches from our planet and travels into space. To me a more apt moniker would be the 'Space Station," something constructed in place to serve as an operating environment and base for imaginative scientists to unlock the secrets of a new environment. Plus, it looks a whole lot more like a space station than a spaceship, at least to me. We now return you to our regularly scheduled DeathCage Wrestling Match between Bulls and Bears. ;)

I am a firm believer that every situation is an opportunity if you look at it right. We have a stock that has ridiculously solid fundamentals and IMHO a vast unsophisticated ownership. The volatility is historically low so options are cheap and we are headed into uncertain waters. It feels to me that this is a golden opportunity for a strangle. Any takers?

If there is a lack of sophisticated owners for the most heavily analyzed stock in existence, does that not tell you something? The "sophisticated" owners know when to get in and when to get out, at least to a greater extent than most. They headed for the exits in 2012 long before any of us has a clue about what was going on. I do agree that options are great way to play AAPL, and there are many potentially successful strategies available.

Seems like AAPL was selling as low as $60 in 2012 and again in 2013.

The 2013 margin drop and resulting (relatively) poor earnings were not predicted by anybody on this board, I can tell you that much. Everybody was wondering why on earth AAPL was selling off after the launch of a great new phone and what was sure to be a blowout year ahead. I don't know if you were around at the time, but I was, and I was part of the herd.

I don't know if you were around at the time, but I was, and I was part of the herd. Oh, those sophisticated owners. The ones who knew that the gross margin dropping from incredible (43%?) to outstanding (38%?) would result in a 40% AAPL price and P/E ratio drop ("Apple is dooomed!") Those same sophisticated owners bought back in, in mid-2013 and doubled their money by mid-2015. When they sold out again, of course, being sophisticated owners. Thoose sophisticated owners. The good news is that the sophisticated owners bought back in, in mid-2016.
