Saw a bunch of articles wishing Apple will license their smart car research to third parties. Not. Gonna. Happen. Apple reinvents *the whole widget* to improve user experience. Repeat that 10 times fast. If Apple can't do that, they go back to the lab and wait. Apple is not going to build a car widget. But they see a future for integrated sensor standards in cars, which they will exploit. That's all they are trying to do with this amicus brief: ensure the entire industry gets into a standardization mindset.

Maybe this: "Shares of Apple (AAPL) are down $1.50, or 1.3%, at $108.40, amidst news of both its rumored ambition in driverless vehicles, and more spot checks of the health of iPhone. On the latter score, boutique house BlueFin moves to a “cautious” rating on the stock, from “positive,” after “supply chain checks” make the analysts, John Donovan and Steve Mullane worried that March quarter iPhone sales will be “well below Wall Street consensus.” Pacific Crest’s Andy Hargreaves, who has an Overweight rating, cuts his price target to $127 from $129, after cutting his estimates to “roughly in line with consensus” for December and for all of fiscal 2017." blogs.barrons.com/techtraderdaily/2016/12/05/tech-trader-going-cautious-on-apple-amazon-go-fitbit-tops/?mod=yahoobarrons&ru=yahoo

I think we have seen this movie before. My guess is that AAPL is being used as an ATM to fund the surge in oil and bank stocks right now. On days like this, I look at how AAPL is doing vs. Google and Facebook
Time Google FaceBook Apple 1 week -2.02% -4.14% -1.69% 1 Month -.04% -9.26% -1.01% 3 Month -4.07% -8.78% -2.54% 6 Month +4.75% -2.85% +12.61% YTD -1.74% +10.26% +6.73%
Considering the organized FUDstorm, this doesn't feel too bad.

Before everyone trashes supply chain checks, remember what happened last year. A couple of more reports that confirm and I will start to believe it. I don't have any data but I sense continued weakness out of China. I know a few people who live there and Trump has really caused a step change in the already high anti-American sentiment. I have no doubt that many people are boycotting American products wherever possible.

Has IDC ever got anything right with regard to Apple shipments? A real question. I don't think they have visibility into the Apple store, and that does compose a significant percentage of sales. Anyone have stats?

Anyone have stats? Wonder if IDC has any information regarding sales as a result of insurance carriers subsidizing Apple Watches.

Well into December the Watch is still showing low availability - worse than the iPhone. Unless Apple is having supply problems (and I wouldn't put it past them at this point) Watch seems to be the least of their problems. Demand seems fairly robust.

Yes online store is showing delivery dates Dec. 21-26 for watch. Since its a more personal choice, my other half doesnt seem to understand that santa's inventory is decreasing. By her inability to decide what case she wants its increasingly unlikely santa will deliver. Is there a way to tap into a local store watch inventory without phoning in?

I must say, FitBit is a cool looking watch with a nice website for ordering. Apple watch does not detect heart rate That I believe is part of the reason.

Apple Watch does detect heart rate, and I believe more accurately than any other wearable. Apple should have Apple Watch gift cards where the recipient can go in to a store and pick out the Watch they want. Hard to buy these things as gifts when the colour/band choice is so personal. Really surprised that they haven't done this yet. This to me would be a far higher priority item than planting trees inside retail stores.

Surely should be making it easier not harder to buy a simple menu of whats available as opposed to having to scroll back and forth. do they want People to actually buy these things?

Sorry for my mistake on the heart rate. In the Apple promotion for the watch online, there is no mention of heart rate. Runners and the like seem to be the primary demographic for watches. They usually like to check their heart rate, as that is a health issue also.
The point is that Apple is marketing the watch as a general computer-like support for all kinds of activities. The public is not ready for this.
The live demographic at the moment is the set of fitness people. Apple does not reach them. And the Apple watch battery life is really one day, not enough, and FitBit advertises 5 days.
Runners will buy watches to keep track of things. And health concerns (not the Apple Watch at the moment) will also simulate sales. Result - Weakness.

I don't believe most people think the watch doesn't track heartrate. It's right there in many of the publicity materials- quite prominently on my screens. www.apple.com/apple-watch-series-2/Great to hear Cook speak up. Edit:posting before coffee
