Apple will get a penny or two per infringement resulting in a couple million dollars. What a complete and utter waste of time, and for what? To give the public the perception that Apple is a big mean patent troll. Well played.

Are you implying we are turning into China with no regard for design or intellectual property ? It's a sad ruling .... from a bunch of judges that probably don't use any of this "new fangled" tech. This was fought with expert witnesses and a jury over the course of several years only to be overturned by a bunch of people who probably have very little understanding of what's going on ...

Really!?! Members of this board think that Apple should not have tried to protect the patents for the product that provides the largest share of both their revenue and profits from the company that slavishly copied it? Why do I think that if they had not done so we would have already heard the same people complaining that Apple was a bunch of dummies for letting Samsung steal their best product right from under their noses?
Sure is easy to claim that it was futile now that the decision is in. Let me be the first to congratulate you all on 20/20 hindsight.

More just commenting on the futileness of it all. When has any verdict ever been more than a slap on the wrist and provided a real disincentive for unethical or illegal behaviour? Google gets fined a few hours of profit for spying on people and proceeds to double down on their efforts, because they know the financial gain vastly outweighs any possible fines down the road. For Apple to expect this to be any different was just false hope, and it has definitely hurt their brand. A lot of the hate you hear from people about Apple is a direct result of this legal battle with Samsung.

A lot of the hate you hear from people about Apple is a direct result of this legal battle with Samsung. And the battle will continue—this ruling sends it back down to a lower court.

How about blaming our legal system and patent law that has clearly failed so badly in this case? I get that the default setting seems to be relentless Apple negativity on this board, but damn, once in a while it's OK to take a breather.

Samsung/Google copied the iPhone. Courts going back and forth over what patents are in play and the amount of payment due are just details. Like Steve Jobs said, Android is a stolen product. I'm glad Apple stood up for what's right in court. But the fact that Apple gets so much of the profit in the smartphone market is the best monetary judgment.

Could be wrong... Foxconn to invest 50B in US and add 50,000 jobs? That breaks down to about $1,000,000 per robot . . .

Apple pays $450,000 for alleged hazardous waste violationsI doubt Apple violated any regulations related to the actual disposal and this is just a paperwork issue. Texas A&M also just got fined for not filing paperwork. My personal opinion: the EPA is out of control and leveling excessive fines for bureaucractic paper shuffling. A complete lack of focus.

Thanks for posting the link, Rob. The article was interesting, but the real treat, at least for me, was reading the 62 comments, a large percentage of them from present Samsung phone users, upset about the possible missing headphone jack in the Galaxy 8. I found it surprisingly enjoyable to read negative comments that weren't about changes to Apple products. I'm enclosing a representative sample of the comments for those who didn't read them: * Won’t be buying the S8 if this rumour is true. * If it comes, I will simply skip it as well until they see the error of their ways as with the ditching of the memory card in the S6. * If Samsung is stupid enough to remove the jack they will be screwed. Mark my words again… It would be over n out for Samsung after Note 7 fiasco. * Well i guess S7 is my last samsung phone * Bullshit! Bullshit! Bullshit! Come on Samsung really? After all the shit you went through with the note 7 your gonna piss us off yet with this??? Seriously this is f***ed up.. * Good by Shamesung..And no, I wont let the door hit me! * After 8 years of being a real fan of samsung, and owning the whole models of Galaxy Note series (till the note4).and some of the galaxy S series(2,4,5).i have to say samsung is not worth buying anymore!! (( * I took a break from Samsung hoping to get the s8 edge next year then I see this crap. Ohhh boy these companies are not listening to customer demands * If they really removed the headphone jack, I’m totally gonna skip on that phone and still live with my S6, because Samsung would be idiots for following Apple’s footsteps, which is bullshit. * Come on, Samsung!!! NO 3.5mm headphone jack…that’s suck. Why, why!! do you need to follow apple… * This is another STUPID move from Samsung. LG here I come!!! * They dont give about us thats the problem only thing they listening to is money nothing more * That sucks * Sigh! Another example of removing functionality to provide better aesthetics.

I guess that they are so busy being ineffective innovators and counting their billions of dollars that they can't bother to watch what they are doing to the environment. Thanks a lot, Tim! You sure are doing a great ob - not! Reply BryanT BryanT3 hours ago There's a cost to replacing your I-Phone every time Apple comes out with a new model that does the exact same thing.

I think Apple has to continue the patent fight. Now, software wise, every phone looks like an iPhone. You have to look at the hardware to be sure it is not an iPhone.
Maybe Apple claimed too much, but the issue is real. The other companies just copied Apple, with their own hardware.
