Latest rumour is that the next iPhone will keep the existing design of the iPhone 7, and include a red colour option. Four years of design stagnation - that will be received well...
Personally I don't care and I'll be upgrading from my iPhone 6 but the market certainly will.
Only hope is that they'll also unveil an iPhone Pro/Edition with an all-new design at the same time. Will certainly bump up ASPs, but I'm not sure I like the direction they are going lately in terms of pricing. In order to keep Services chugging along they need to make their products more accessible, not more exclusive.

Just flirting with that 50dma. Bets up, breakout or break down? My $.03 (inflation), all dips have been bought, I think breakout.

Thanks for the article. I remain somewhat skeptical about the utility of such designs, but if anyone could sort it out, Apple would be as likely as anyone. "Some iterations of the design incorporate touch layers on all surfaces, even the backside of the phone." So if the phone is covered with touch sensitive displays/buttons, how can one hold it without accidentally invoking possibly unwanted functions? "Apple was granted a separate patent last month for a foldable iPhone, similar to the clamshell smartphones of yesteryear." Is there really a clamor for the return of flip phones? "Apple frequently applies for patents that never yield any marketable products" This would be a good thing to keep in mind, IMHO

After occupation, would there be a drop in expenses? What I mean what is the rental cost savings?

Maybe his VC firm can fund the TV he always wanted Apple to make. :-)

It's possible there would be one standard size screen on the outside (for ease of use), then fold open for a double sized screen for when you need a "skosh" more room (like my jeans, lately).

I agree. I don't expect a foldable iPhone for 2017 but envision, eventually, something like the devices the employees used in the HBO series WestWorld.

Modular screen size could definitely be useful. It would be interesting to consider the usage scenarios, and Apple would be just the company to do that. Would it be on a per app basis? The transformation mechanism would need to be quite fast, smooth and durable to support frequent changes in a way that would not be cumbersome for the user. Perhaps more of a modal approach, say mobile vs. desktop with a focus on optimization for the apps most frequently used in each mode, would be useful. Very interesting thought. Thanks for the response.

Well the iPhone already knows its orientation and proximity to the face. It could shut off rear-facing controls. One of my peeves about the stupid Roombas. You must invert them to clean them out, and 80% of the time you accidentally hit a button while holding it and then it's speaking to you in Mandarin. I hope Apple does hike that divy with those yummy foreign profits! Let's make AAPL great again!

I hope Apple does hike that divy with those yummy foreign profits! Let's make AAPL great again! I gave my wife a Roomba a year or so after they first came out. It was Christmas morning. She had never heard of them. Knowing how she occasionally enjoys having control over everything in the universe, I told her that it obeyed voice commands so she just had to tell it when to go left right forward or back. We turned it on and she starts giving commands. Out of sheer luck, it obeyed one. The others I excused by saying that it has to learn her voice. I contained my laughter for about 5 minutes before I confessed.
