Spoke to my niece who works at Apple (at the store - repairs computers I believe). Anyway, she said the laptops are flying out the door and it's been unbelievable. However, the watch has been a complete disappointment. Not many being sold - can't even recall anyone who owned the first one upgrading to the second one. The only one that has any traction whatsoever is the Nike band one - but not good. I rarely wear my watch any longer. I know several of you love it and go on the sword for it but I'm just not in agreement on that product. All this being said, she also said that there are internal murmurs of some surprise launch in the spring but she has no clarity of what it might be (ie new product vs. upgrades of something in existence) but she's sniffing around. And that's all she wrote!

I don't own a watch but my wife still wears the one I gave her a year ago.

Surprised to hear about the Watch given Cook's comments and the lack of availability. I wonder if demand is more localized for that product. I see quite a few around these days and wear mine every day. I think it's a good product.

I think people who really like functionality and who think it is a drag to have pull out their phone every time it buzzes are the main users of the watch. I can see where people who text constantly would see the watch in a different light though and I also think those who see their watch as a status symbol, or perhaps love the bling of an expensive mechanical watch, to be more of a draw than functionality. My Wife falls into that category and would never use all of the possibilities that the Apple watch offers so "if" sales are disappointing I would think these reasons are more valid than the one that says the watch is a disappointing product.

My previous watches were the $39.99 Timex Men's Triathlon series, so for me, wearing the first version of the Apple Watch was a big step up in the appearance of the watch, in addition to it providing all the functions I enjoy using.

Perhaps but like my husband always said - they all just give you the time but are dressed in different types of jewelry. Apple Watch gave me lots more but I like turning to my phone for most of it. My 26 year old son doesn't wear his any longer either and my daughter who is a few years older only does when she works out. So I just don't know but hey that's the least of it. I'm happy that the laptops are doing so well - and understandably so. Good stuff!

IMO, the health monitoring aspect of the Apple Watch will be its big selling point at some point in the future. The rest is just convenient fluff.
I though about getting one but decided against it.

My wife and I both like and use the health monitoring aspect but also really appreciate not having to pull our iPhones out every time a message or e-mail comes in. When Walgreen's Pharmacy calls about a prescription, I can just let that go right to voice mail.

My watch spends most of it's time on the charging stand. I quit wearing one a few years ago when the kids all started using their phone for a watch and I wanted to see what that experience was like. Anyway, I'm in agreement with the thought that they must be purchased from other outlets for Tim's comment to be true. Anecdotally I've been getting questions about which watch to buy as a gift from friends that aren't as Apple focused as I am. Like the iPad, I believe it was purchased in volume at introduction by the hardcore Apple crowd and the validity of each as a segment will build in time.

The killer app for the Apple Watch would be a real time blood pressure monitor. If Apple did that, I'd buy two and keep one for parts . . .

Except continuous health monitoring is worthless outside of intensive care units. Fitness watches and bands are largely gimmicks that people have unfortunately been convinced they need.

I doubt that blood pressure monitoring is worthless for everyday people. For example, my doctor asked me to try and keep a blood pressure record through out my day. That is a fools request, since I am never close to a pressure cuff or have the time or recording device during my busy day. However, an Apple watch could accomplish that task in the background without any user input. = Killer app . . . Shit, I'd buy 3 and use the other 2 for parts . . .

The killer app for me on my Apple Watch has actually been Apple Pay. Paying for lunch and gas without even reaching for my phone is very convenient.

I wore a portable BP monitor for 24 hours. That stunk.
