The Seeking Alpha article had some new and good information. Unfortunately, the new information was not good and the good information was not new. I think the entire article could have been written a year or two ago. At least they are recycling more positive articles now.

Nice! On my first hike up Mt Whitney, we were backpacking up in the first week of June after a heavy snow year, hitting snow a mile in on the 12 mile trail. At our camp 6-8 miles in, I found a swiss army watch in the creek, presumably there for 6+ months, still ticking away. With no contact info, I eventually put a band on it and still have it around here somewhere. Most things aren't completely waterproof (if they are breathable or can come apart), given enough pressure. Snow jacket membranes get moisture and breathability ratings, and I've found that a 10k/10k jacket holds up in all the conditions I want to be in at a ski resort, whereas an even higher rating would be great if I was a few hours out and conditions got bad. OTOH, we've yet to buy a pair of kids gloves that are waterproof enough to hold up to digging in the snow (for minutes, let alone hours). (edit: explaining further, the 10k rating is a pressure rating equivalent to a column of water 10,000 mm tall, though a couple brands uses PSI instead. The pressure might be when pelted by snow or rain, but really it's more from digging in the snow, or sitting on a slush covered ski lift chair....or for the snow boarder, kneeling or sitting in the snow to strap in. Waterproof ratings for a watch or phone are similar, but often in "water-resistant to 30M" type format) Good to hear the X does so well. My wife just got a 8 Plus in Red, and while we're generally good to our phones, we did have a flip phone long ago that kicked the bucket when stored with a wet pool towel for 10 minutes.
