Since when is it proper for a sitting US government official to call out a PRIVATE company and tell them how to do business? (ie.... where to manufacture it's products)
This coming from a man who couldn't run a lemonade stand and has driven every business venture right into bankruptcy.
Trump can go to hell.
Cheers to the longs.

The stock is holdin up well and it appears the market is responsible for that. All the upgrades have helped in the last two weeks.
Since we are not at a RSI of 70 and find ourselves at a similar point as last quarter, this improves the chances of actually seeing a flat move.
I would have liked us to be closer 200 right now and not 210 in order to feel confident we would correct towards the 188 area.
Yes Puts have increased for next week, but SPY looks very stable. In fact SPY calls are increasing for next week.

Separate note the market is acting very strange. Both FB and INTC were up over 6% when earnings came out and they are both down 2% since then. Big swings.
Could we see the same for aapl?

fb was only up ~3% ah after eranings IIRC... their fade is understandable due to record ftc fine, and then a separate ftc antitrust query
intc was indeed up 6% yesterday (someone pointed out)... now in the red, so not sure what's going on... but again, maybe market digested the $1B chip sale deal
counterargument: googl was up 9% ah last night, followed through with 10% up today... this leads me to believe intc and and fb are stock-specific, not general market

FB hit 216 in AH. TD Ameritrade does not show it but I remember following the stock.

Why would they do that when the Mac Pro is aimed at people and entities that have deep pockets. 2. wanted to be spared of tariffs on this product. Why would the federal govt. give them preferential treatment? 3. Your President is not telling how to run their company. 4. The plastic straws are a joke responding to the lefts ban on straws for gawd sake. 5. Lemonade stand? 6. Ran all his businesses into bankruptcy? 7. Doesn’t know what a Mac Pro is? 8. Go to Hell? Your post appears to belong on the delusional Occupy democrats boards. 9. I didn’t post because I’m in favor of Trump, we all would like to produce or assemble more in the US. The Mac Pro is a ideal candidate. This President has done a hell of a lot of good. We sometime wish he could cool the divisive speech but the left keeps it coming too. And..... 10. I suspect as far out it would seem, that this whole affair was planned to make it appear to the deciders in China that Trump means business. I’m not trying to start a argument. You started it. Edit: What He said... Apple will not be given Tariff waiver, or relief, for Mac Pro parts that are made in China. Make them in the USA, no Tariffs!

Apple built the SIM eject tool in liquid metal. They haven't made another "mass produced" product in liquid metal since. I assume they learned enough from this "experiment" that liquid metal wasn't ready yet. Enough said.

(ie.... where to manufacture it's products) This coming from a man who couldn't run a lemonade stand and has driven every business venture right into bankruptcy. Trump can go to hell. Spare me the outrage. I agree with macster that PED commenter Jerry Doyle pretty much nailed it. I saw that Trump adopted an older outlook on life even from watching apprentice. There is one moment I never forgot that made this very clear. Those with a progressive outlook thought they had won the war they were fighting. That conflict is way deeper than size of government issues and such standard liberal and conservative disagreements. Indeed, it goes to what you think a man should be, and how you think he should behave. 50 years before the American Revolution Alexander Pope, in Essay on Man, wrote: “The proper study of mankind is man”. Reagan was an actor, and Trump is a showman. They both get human nature on levels that many others don’t. I wasn’t on the Trump bandwagon, though I had no problem voting for him instead of Billary, because I thought he’d be another Arnold Swarzeneggar. I think he did more damage to California than his recalled Democratic predecessor ever did, despite having what I thought were very good ideas and conservative intentions. When the obvious fact became apparent that the legislature was the real problem in CA, he folded and his desire to be a showman worked against good government from a conservative point of view. But look, you don’t have to be an actor or a showman to get this. I’ve always believed in Pope’s admonition even before I ever heard the quote, and I always considered myself a student of human nature. I could point out books that clearly show the various views of human nature and how in the popular imagination they have changed over time. Sadly, most people are so incurious to aspects of human nature they can’t even come to understand their own parents if such an interpersonal ideological divide that I’m only hinting of comes between them. There’s a certain irony that many Apple fans can’t even see that Steve Jobs himself had this same old school understanding of human nature in many ways. He’s an immensely controversial figure for this very reason, and his grasp of human nature was surely one of the main reasons that brought Apple their “marketing” success. Note the scare quotes. I haven’t read Victor Davis Hanson’s “The Case for Trump” yet, but I know enough by reading and listening to him pretty much what’s in it and Trump haters really ought to read it. How Libs like Obama and Hillary insult voters by trying to talk and act like them during speeches and photo ops and showing by so doing how they can’t relate to them. Whereas in contrast the billionaire Trump showed up in the same suit and flashy tie and spoke of “our farmers, and our miners”, such like talk the Libs couldn’t even force out so clearly did they see the otherness of the audiences they hoped would vote for them. It surprises me not at all that VDH would make a case for Trump, and not be hoodwinked by Trump’s bluster, since as a classicist he’s long been the finest example of speaking and writing on the topic of human nature and the changing understanding of it, particularly as it seems to the mind of those in thrall to Progressivism. Larry Siedentop wrote a brilliant essay a couple of decades ago named “Two liberal traditions”. (Liberal of course in the traditional classic sense.) He pointed out that in contrast to the French, there is something about the English political theorists or political philosophers, probably exemplified by Edmund Burke, that had no model for social change. But societies do change, and they must. Conservatives in the Burkean strain had no way of theoretically modeling change, and so they tended to see all change as bad, when in fact that’s not always true. How things change had been the core of Western philosophy since Aristotle, but somehow the English theorists couldn’t seem to grasp this. So for all their wisdom and profound knowledge, and in the case of Burke and other English theorists it was very considerable, in the end they tend to fall prey to nostalgia and setting perceived past ideals in stone. Stasis at some imagined ideal point came to be idealized. So it is still for some on the Left and Right. Certainly for the Libs and the never-Trumpers. For them Trump is an aberration that will be corrected, whether in 2 or 6 years. I think this is naive. Trump isn’t a change agent as much as he’s an announcement of the change that has occurred. And because change has occurred doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s fine to be mindful of changes, I know I am and seek to be, but we have to make comparisons and assuming what was before the change was better is highly problematic. But let me return to the topic at hand. I remember being shocked when Obama in a press conference or some such event noted that Toyota had had a poor quarter in defense of something or other they were promoting. I’m sure Toyota didn’t like it either. Why call attention to this? Why incite people to call up their advisors and ask them if they owned Toyota? But look, by now it’s apparent we’re in a different era. Apple is a very high profile company, as was Toyota in it’s era, and the fact is that this sort of scrutiny comes with the territory. Like it or not, we live in the internet age, and information ping pong around in unpredictable ways. Small details get magnified, sometimes it’s salutary and sometimes not. And there is no going back. Doyle is right that Trump is simply playing the game skillfully, and though Cook may be an activist, he’s less activist all considered than most of his peers who actively worked to influence the election, and probably will actively work to influence the next one. I’m looking at you Google. So call me an engager in whataboutism if you like, but I’m nonplussed by hysterical shrieking over Trump’s supposed hypocrisy and business incompetence, certainly by people prideful in the intensity of their emotions. That's a new thing. Maybe they should be consistent with their beliefs and consider whether this change was a good one or not, rather than assuming the exhilaration of their own feelings about something or someone is a good standard for their moral judgments.

Cook is 9 times smarter than Trump, and 4 times smarter than his activist anti-activist detractor investors. Thank God. The best thing about Trump is that he’s suckered out the very worst of our culture- racist, xenophobic, homophobic, mysogynistic- for all the world to get a stomach-churning look at. Hopefully the majority of this great nation will vote in record numbers and put this nightmare chapter into history.

the smart thing to do in this situation was just to let it go, even if you don't agree... instead seems a mini-dungeon debate developed here... i didn't read the novels that were posted here, foolish to think people change their opinion... and it's HOT in ABQ this weekend, i got better things to do
but yeah, this being an APPLE discussion board - and trump inflicting direct damage on APPLE... FU*K TRUMP!

And the best thing about ridiculous assertions like this is that they display how absurd was the grievance police's moralism and how upset these same folks are that the partisanship of their epithet delegation seems obvious now. The "good old days" for them is when you could call someone one of these epithets, and by gum it stuck and they were properly ashamed, because we said so! Good luck with that. You can fool some of the people some of the time ...
The previous Mac Pro was built in Texas. Period. Enough said Both sides gaslight. It’s not unusual for US leaders to call out Business both negative and positive. We all have our beefs with government. Trying to be fair and not be biased because of my investment in the company. It will all work out.
Let's try again ....
1) What difference does it make where the previous Mac Pro was built? Enough said? Sorry that make absolutely no sense. APPLE will decide where they produce the product based on their needs. BTW did you ever stop to ask why, if the idea to manufacture in Austin went so well, did Apple decide NOT to make the new MacPro here? In all honesty, I have NO idea nor do I have the expertise or insiders point of view to know why ... I'll just trust Tim Cook does.
2) Yes maybe both sides gaslight but really ? Plastic Straws ? It's really not relevant to our discussion regarding apple anyway. Just a stupid joke on my end since you said I won a contest ....
3) Government is NOT always telling companies how to run their business aside from regulation that is usually INDUSTRY wide. Before this administration I NEVER heard a business called out for their choices ... especially since there is nothing illegal about what Apple is doing. Companies are allowed to make their own decision and then live with the results ... free market system in this country. Oddly enough you would think the party in power would understand this as it's always been a very important part of their party philosophy.
4) I live in CA and it's far from a "Cesspool" .... it's beautiful and frankly if you don't like it ... don't come here ... trust me I won't miss you. Remember genius ... APPLE is headquartered here in this Cesspool .... sheesh.
5) Trump came back as a clown on TV .... he has bankrupt many business and this is not my opinion ... all you have to do is read the link. Sorry it's not debatable. touting his business acumen is a losing proposition to anyone paying attention.
Why the hell are you invested in Apple ? Just go put your money into a coal mine as I'm sure that stable genius in the WH will bring that industry back, remember he PROMISED.... he won't ... he lied ...
Bottom line .... Trump is a moron when it comes to running a business, especially one as complex as Apple and I don't want him to comment. Comment on Apple and you are open to this boards wrath ... so that is the only reason I'm writing this. Obviously I've got issues with many of his policies and behavior but this is NOT the place to voice those concerns.
Cheers to the longs .....

Honestly, how anyone can support this POTUS after all we know about is both a huge mystery and disappointment. For the love of Pete, stop watching Trump TV if that’s to blame for the ignorance. I’m a moderate and have voted Republicans and Democrats all my life. The R’s can go F themselves at this point. They’re flat out traitors to democracy, fearful as they are of Trump threatening their re-election bids. Some of you are still Republicans...read conservatives George Will, Rick Wilson, Max Boots, et al instead of watching Fox TV boobs like Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson This is serious: Trump is a bona ride threat to America. Full stop.

Full stop. I know, I know. Everyone's a disappointment to you. Everyone's a mystery to you, if I'm interpreting you correctly. It would suck to be you, if it weren't for the fact that you're morally superior. But since you are, it sucks from your perspective to be everyone else. If only we had more people like you the country wouldn't be going to hell in a hand basket, as it clearly is. FWIW, I find Tucker Carlson's "lying neocons" bit a little hard to take. So there's that. Thanks for sharing your feelings.

>> 1) What difference does it make where the previous Mac Pro was built? It probably doesn't. I guess you ignored the comments earlier about generalities and specifics, and the nudging and winking between Trump and Cook. It's called politics. Don't be so hyper-literal. Read some poetry for God's sake. >> 2) Yes maybe both sides gaslight but really ? Plastic Straws ? Missed that one, and not going back. Sorry. >> 3) Government is NOT always telling companies how to run their business aside from regulation that is usually INDUSTRY wide. Before this administration I NEVER heard a business called out for their choices ... See response to #1. Generalities and specifics. Welcome to now. You don't have to be the sharpest tool in the shed to know here's something called Big Tech, and single companies now occupy positions larger than entire sectors did in the past in significant ways. Not to worry, wise leaders such as Apple's Cook seem to be aware of the cultural moment and how to deal with this and Trump seems to know it too. Did I refer you to response to #1? Oh yes, I did. Maybe Trump is smarter than you since you can't seem to grasp basic technical and political realities of recent years. Now Google and Facebook leaders, yeah I think they have something to worry about. Maybe they should be regulated. See there's something called Big Tech and ... Oh yeah, mentioned that. >> 4) I live in CA and it's far from a "Cesspool" .... it's beautiful and frankly if you don't like it ... don't come here ... trust me I won't miss you. Remember genius ... APPLE is headquartered here in this Cesspool .... sheesh. I live in LA county. There are cesspools and beautiful parts. All depends on where you go. My advice is to avoid the cesspools. Cesspools suck last time I checked. >> 5) Trump came back as a clown on TV .... he has bankrupt many business and this is not my opinion ... all you have to do is read the link. Sorry it's not debatable. touting his business acumen is a losing proposition to anyone paying attention. Translation: "My opinion is a FACT! FACT! FACT! FACT!" Sure, that works. Oh no, not the boards wrath! Anything but that! What is this high school? Come on, man. And I dunno about Trump being a moron. Steve Jobs met with Obama a decade ago and told him he could be headed for a one-term presidency because regulations were making it too difficult to build factories in the U.S. as opposed to overseas in China and US school teacher's unions didn't allow for a merit basis in employing and firing teachers. Nothing at all happened of course, since the last thing Obama wanted to deliver was change of any sort. I don't recall much outrage from the usual suspects about Obama's business acumen when he declared "you didn't build that". What did he ever build that he would know? Not that that prevented him from enriching himself at the public till.

Full stop. Would you rather have the radical left infiltration of the once great Democratic party of Kennedy/Truman rule this land with their hypocritical wack-a-mole insanity. Turn off the communist news networks. You don't need to watch Fox to get a clear picture of how the previous administration weaponized government against the citizens of the US.
