Quick and stupid question: if I ordered my iPhone 5 last week at the crack of dawn and there was no delayed shipment time - when is the earliest I should receive it? Is it tomorrow? (Although I haven't gotten a shipment email yet.) You could log into your Apple account (assuming you purchased from Apple) and track your order. Yep - will look at my aapl account - should have thought of that myself - thanks

On the while France thing, Paris is my absolutely favorite place in the world. And this includes Parisians. It is easy to set them off, but just as easy to get the opposite reaction.
I had my family in a restaurant in St. Germaine de Pres, and had a hilarious encounter with the owner. It was a parody of the whole "Stupide Englishe" stereotype between she and I. I was playing the boorish Anglais, and she was playing the rude Francais. I don't remember how it started, but it was one of my favorite memories of the trip. The French are not oblivious to their reputation, but they will set it aside if you give them the slightest opening to do so.
My French is truly horrible, but I try anyway. I think most of the French hate to hear their language butchered, so most of them switch to English real quick.

More from Nick Nansen's blog nanseninvestments.com/Projecting Apple’s iphone 5 sales Posted on September 20, 2012 The SPY and Apple looked like they were going to have a good correction this morning on the basis of troubling economic news around the globe. They both gapped down and started to sell off, and suddenly, they both found support and came scrambling back. Apple just does not want to correct. It is showing amazing resilience in spite of every excuse to have a much deserved rest. Monday we will get the weekend sales figures for the new iphone 5 and the expected reaction to that news is to expect the pros to come in and sell Apple off hard right after we get the news. This Apple is acting different than normal, it resists all efforts to sell it off. I’ll bet on Monday Apple just keeps powering up. On Monday, I am going to be looking for the % increase in iphone 5 sales versus iphone 4S sales for the same comparable period last year when the iphone 4S was introduced. We got 1st day sales in the iphone 5 of 2 million versus 1 million the 1st day for the 4S last year. That is a 100% increase. Whatever the % incresae in the iphone 5 versus the 4S phone will be my clue on how many sales we might expect for the full quarter in Q1. If that number is 100%, I will be expecting 100% better in Q1 for iphone 5 over the Q1 for iphone 4s after it’s introduction. The 4S had sales in Q1 of 37,040,000. 100% of that number would be 74,000,000. I’m not saying that % will hold exactly true, but it will give all analysts the basis for making an educated guess for Q1 iphone 5 sales. 70% invested in Jan, Feb, and April sreads and Leaps; 30% cash.

I have not been buying very many intact spreads lately. Mostly leg in's. I will buy the way OTM's intact, but my April's have all been legged into. I buy 10-20 longs and when the $10 strike above gets close, adios. Sell the short leg. My Aprils spreads vary between 680 and 720.

Japan running out of iPhonesTOKYO (Reuters) - Softbank Corp, one of the two Japanese carriers selling Apple Inc's iPhone, said it was concerned the U.S. company does not have enough production capacity to meet demand for its latest device. Demand for the iPhone 5 is greater than the first iPhone, Softbank's president and founder, Masayoshi Son, said Friday at one of his stores as sales of the phone began. KDDI Corp, the other Japanese carrier offering the iPhone, said that it had already run out of the iPhone5.

What's trending on Twitter: 3737 tweets on Apple maps. This is the last 3-4 hours or so. In the same time, the $AAPL Twitter feed had 200 tweets.

I, for one, have always thought Apple's native Maps app is absolutely horrific. I tried it a couple times, found it difficult to use, and abandoned it. Wish I could delete it but it's stuck on my home screen. I downloaded Mapquest a long time ago and used it ever since. Then Mapquest was updated and I hate it now too. Not sure what I'll use going forward but I'll proably learn to like the Mapquest app. Big deal.

Is it too early to call this Mapgate? I think many bloggers have been waiting for the opportunity to blast Apple, and this has given them the opportunity. Mass transit users will be disappointed? Really? You need maps to tell the train conductor where to go? My own experience has been positive so far. My area renders quickly, cleanly, and accurately. Satellite images are the same as Google's. Turn by turn directions are hugely important. Better so far than the navigation system in my car. Attachments:

As for that straight-line extrapolation...oh yeah, that really does seem a bridge too far. There's also a little curve-ball called the 14th week from fiscal Q4 2011. But something like _65M_ iPhones? Might not be out of the question, and I doubt many if any WS analysts are thinking that high.

I'm curious - who's tried the navigation component of, let's call it iMaps? Thoughts on how it works? I'm not sure anecdotal evidence is going to tell us anything here. I suspect this is just like Antennagate where the loudest whiners were the tiny minority but sounded like a majority because they whined so often and so loudly. Most people won't even notice this "issue" until they watch the news. And then they'll forget about it when they realize they don't ever use that app or they use it and it's fine for them.

I buy 10-20 longs and when the $10 strike above gets close, adios. Sell the short leg. My Aprils spreads vary between 680 and 720. I gave up legging, too stressful. You can leg into numerous spreads, and end up with numerous "can't lose" credits. But it only takes one dip that keeps on dipping to really whack you. So it's kind of fool's gold in terms of lowering risk, IMO. When I do go off the leg wagon, I buy the long and immediately open an order window to dump it at a certain price to cut my losses. If the stock goes up, then I'll worry about legging in. But those unhedged (aka, unhinged) calls really raise my blood pressure dramatically. April sucked.

Even if Apple can maintain that high a rate of sales through the quarter, can they manufacture that many? We're already seriously out of supply/demand balance, with 3-4 week wait times. But if you add the extra 10 days from this quarter, then 65M phones looks like a more realistic target based on what Apple has been able to ship in the past. But then again, Apple often exceeds the realistic.

Am I missing something? I thought Flyover included a feature where the (supported) 3D map would just kinda pan around on its own.

prazan, agreed on iPhone 5 demand crush and likely supply crunch.
Will we have an iPhone 4 kind of sales curve or more of an iPhone 4S sales curve? First hints next week.
