Touchscreens have some advantages at times, and with so many people used to smartphones and tablets, it's natural to want to touch the screen. But try using one. It makes sense in certain circumstances, like a touchscreen in a kiosk type setting. We had an old CRT iMac with a touchscreen ELMO in the lab. Our elementary school now has a thing you have to go through to print out a nametag, and the application it uses looks like it should be touchable. It's not. But try to use a touchscreen for any type of real entry of data. Ergonomically, it just isn't good. The slot machines from IGT would have one touchscreen, and you had to put in the IP information via touchscreen. That's something like 3 or 4 15 digit strings (including dots) for the IP, subnet mask, DNS, and maybe something else. The equivalent to one or two short sentences. But your arms would be a little tired from doing it. The Biofeedback guy I went to years ago when I had arm issues would show the stress on your body would be off the charts very quickly. That whole lever arm thing, as opposed to pretending to be a T-Rex. That's not to say it won't happen. And it might make sense, especially for a laptop. Heck, I could see Apple making a iPad/laptop hybrid, maybe making the screen able to come off with a limited battery in it (weight/tipping issues). But I'm sure they would do a lot of looking at need and demand first. I doubt it will happen soon. But we'll see. They also wouldn't want to get behind on a product, especially if it was popular with a certain segment or demographic.
