Eventful! Stock market news live updates: Stocks up after Fed raises economic outlook, but suggests near-zero rates through 2023Pretty much what one would expect, this time around and in general, of very little change while rate intentions change just a tiny bit (dot chart), and expectations on unemployment by year end improve just a little (4.5%) while inflation expectations by year end also increase a little (2.4%). IRS plans to delay tax deadline to mid-May after chaotic yearTaxes! They're coming, but might be delayed a little. No real benefit to those getting money back. But a nice treat for those of us that procrastinate, or owe this time around. We sold a bit of our gains last year, so will be sending in a sizable check. Time to go test out the knee. It's been 6 weeks, but we've been blessed with a low snow year so it doesn't feel like I have missed much. Like with AAPL, sometimes it takes patience.

Across the board buying at 11. YINN & OLED worth a look. Chinese stocks have had a sell off. My take is China is not going anywhere. But their stocks are. NIO the Chinese TSLA is my favorite. CWEB the Chinese internet, what could be better? 1.3 billion surfers? Moderator I know several of the survivors from the AZ debacle who might want to join our group here. If you are interested in enriching the group's content with thoughtful folks maybe sent them an invitation so they will feel welcome?

If you have sizeable capital gains, don't you have to pay quarterly estimated taxes? I'm going to find out this year, as I'm a long-time holder that finally sold some AAPL in 2020 to fund home renovations. I didn't pay any estimated taxes, so let's see if there's a penalty. I feel like I should have figured this out before now...

Well, AAPL tried to make a comeback spending a few moments in the green. But the close looked promising with good volume. Maybe tomorrow.

I feel like I should have figured this out before now... There's a variety of rules. But the safe harbor rules might get you through a one-time blip without paying penalties. OTOH, maybe 6-8 years ago I made the estimated payments that Turbo Tax gave me for the following year, but then when doing the taxes it said we owed a little bit of late payments. This year we sent in a portion of our expected tax bill after making a sale, which should be plenty to satisfy the safe harbor rules. But then the IRS had me worrying for a couple minutes last week when I received a letter from it, though it turned out to just be info on making estimated tax payments. 1040-ES/V. Just an informative thing. Fun! There's many different rules, and Turbo Tax does a good job of walking you through some, but not always through all of them. But read up on the Safe Harbor rules, while understanding the reasoning for paying estimated taxes if needed in the future.
