Very interesting - I think they are doing it exactly right - i.e. making the iOS - a smaller subset of the larger - MacOs - there are simply too many professional features which flow well into a pro interface and content creating workflow that would be so deprecated by an desktop IOS vs. a full fledged OS that would drive developers mad - I'm only glad I use Logic as my daily composing tool, so at least whatever OS iterations are developed, I'll still be able to work!
I'm writing this from a new M1 MB air - this is an amazing piece of hardware and battery life - Ironically, the subset going to benefit from the convergence to apple silicon at this point the most will be the desktop/pro laptop segment. Especially as soon as larger memory addressing is included. I'd be the first in line to buy a MacBook Pro 15 M1 powered, if it had 64GB ram, and at least 8 CPU cores.
Also very interesting the rumors of a "smaller" more compact cheese grater mac pro - that would fit very well into the product lineup for those not needed the full on supercomputer footprint, but still want pro level expandability and flexibility.

My new Mac Mini (M1) should be here today and I’m really looking forward to seeing it in action. It’s replacing a old MacPro (2008) model that seems to be getting slower with each passing day. Plus it will be taking up a fraction of the space that the old, and beautiful, beast consumed. The Mac Mini will be connected to the 27” LG 5K display which I anticipate will be nothing but pure eye candy. New toys are the best.

DOW blew out earnings and was punished. Will we be next? Will things ever make sense? Now more than ever the long view is essential.

And in other news, my foot hurts like hell. All because Apple Maps guided me to the shoe store that sold me the junk shoes. And my damn cat won’t shut up. I am positive when I get to the bottom of that, Apple will be the root cause.

Don't waste your time. None of these articles are worth reading. Who decides what underage is anyway? Dershowitz decides what underage prostitutes are? Now we have underage daters? WTF? My take is the parents decide this. The new macs don't have a 27 inch display, thats the only problem. The best displays ever were the Cinema Matte displays from over a decade ago or so, they were 30 or 32 inches. Maybe the LG is a better solution for those who use large displays. LG makes good products. The OLED TVs are what Apple should have made.

Dow was hyped by Cramer before it split into 3 companies (he said 4). Stay away from any Cramer hyped company.

Additionally I suspect it is also a branding element - the iMac 🖥 is readily identifiable by its form. Notice also how they have eliminated the logo from the front- it simply doesn’t need it to be recognized. Second, the bezel. Again this is one of those I’ll informed gripes. The bezel serves to provide a better figure/ground separation between the content on the screen and the background. As a designer I find this border helps to reduce distraction. Just Click bait. I’m buying one like millions of others.

No one is perfect in everyone's eye. If colors were the only thing, or the styling, so be it. Boarders aren't necessarily terrible in all lights, nor is a section below. But, I happen to agree that some of Apple's choices don't seem best for the end user, and that styling was chosen instead. Whether that's ease of upgrades or repair, or even just plugging in a jump drive. Here's a OWC product, to get around the problem of having limited USB ports, and having them pointed to the back. eshop.macsales.com/item/Sabrent/HBIMCU/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_campaign=googlebase&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIz8vF57aT8AIVTi-tBh1dbAFoEAEYASABEgLEoPD_BwEEvery time I plug in a USB jump drive, or our laser printer, or the very occasional external HD, I need to stand up and look behind the iMac to see where the ports are. And then due to the standard style of USB ports, it's often the wrong direction. I'm no longer a power user, even if friends bring their Macs to me hoping they can be repaired. But, if really looking with an open mind at what form and functionality would help the most, I have a hard time seeing a clean styling being more important than this often used functionality. Oh well. I just hope that having a clean looking Purple iMac means that they sell even more. And that's it's reflected in the pricing of AAPL.

Through the years I’ve always enjoyed shopping at OWC and the solutions they have for problems I didn’t know that I had. I started to realize several years ago that I (the baby boomer generation) was not the target audience anymore for many of the products and designs that are marketed today. As I go through my house preparing for a move to a smaller crib and start to purge many items that are no longer needed or used I can see where so much of my money went and wonder why I bought it in the first place. How many times do we buy a product because we want to stand out and how many times do we buy that product so that we can fit in? I guess that to the marketers all that truly matters is that we buy the product. Maybe we as a society look to others to tell us who we are.

I’m buying one like millions of others. It looks good enough to me. The only mistake is that there is no gray or black option. I suspect that we will see a grey and/or black version in less than a year. Some businesses will only buy gray/black items, they don't want colors because then people are tempted to "request" a specific color, and when devices need to be swapped out, that causes problems. And they don't like want white because white gets noticeably dirty rather quickly.

And they don't like want white because white gets noticeably dirty rather quickly. Silver works pretty well for the "standard". Apple does have some history with this, so I'm sure they can do a better job at looking at how things have done that we have (Orange/Blue MacBooks (iBooks?), with a Grey version coming in too). OTOH, sometimes the customized version, at the same price, helps people feel even more attached. Going back to some of the first iPods, that was engraving. It's not really in the corporate side, but having a couple colors could still bring some personalization in. But you're right, it depends on the turnover, and it would be more complexity. I'm surprised that Apple choose to go with so many colors, just from an inventory standpoint. And personally I would make some special order. But, Apple does have the history with it, like the Blue Dalmatian iMac.
