It's the tail end of first-quarter earnings season, and corporate report cards have been better than expected. The problem is that those expectations were also expected, and investors are looking for more reasons to keep allocating to stocks. Money flows into equities have slowed to a trickle in the past four weeks.
Next week we'll hear from big retailers including BestBuy, Costco, and The Gap. They'll give us a good window into consumer appetites as inflation swirls across nearly every major product category. We'll get results from Snowflake, 2020's cloud-computing darling. Cloud stocks like SNOW, which has dropped 18% year-to-date, have fallen out of favor in 2021. Salesforce and Nvidia are also set to report results, and we'll see if they can reignite the tech sector.
The cooling of the U.S. housing market in the past month may show up in the Case-Shiller Home Price Index next week. The median sales price for a U.S. single-family home hit $347,000 last quarter, a 17% increase from the same period in 2020. But housing starts and existing-home sales have started to slow, and that might impact home prices in the 20 cities the Case-Shiller Index measures.
We'll also get a report on U.S. corporate profits for the first quarter. They will look huge compared to the first quarter of 2020, and they will likely be used as poster-child for higher corporate tax rates by the Biden administration.
The Biden Budget
Speaking of the president, he will unveil his fiscal 2022 budget on May 28. The Biden administration released a 'skinny' version of the budget back in April. It proposed $769 billion in non-defense discretionary funding in FY 2022, a 16% increase over FY 2021, and $753 billion for national defense programs, a 1.7% increase.

I know there aren't many TA fans around here, but you can clearly see how the stock has been trapped between the 200-day and 50-day moving averages for the past two weeks. As soon as it touches one of them it gets swatted away...
The good side of that: there is strong support for it to not go below 123 at this point. And if it can manage to find enough buyers to crack and stay above 128, it should be clear sailing back to 135 (where there has been another wall of resistance).
Anyone expecting the patsel iMac 27 inch to be released?
Probably. But I think the priority is to first fill out the M1 (or M1x or Mn) based laptop range. That's because I suspect that the laptops far outsell any desktop models. I also wonder if the 27" iMac will be as pastel-ley as the 23.5" model ... maybe due to it being more professional (real graphic artists, architects, designers, etc) it'll come in more professional colors (white, black, gray, etc).
SomeJuan: M1X... 16 cores of CPU, 16 cores of GPU, 4nm TSM fab, katy bar the door...
