Greetings AAPL Investors! The headlines: Apple Investor News, "always updating news stream”. CNN: New bipartisan Senate bill takes aim at Apple and Google's app store dominance"This bill is a finger in the eye of anyone who bought an iPhone or Android because the phones and their app stores are safe, reliable, and easy to use," said Adam Kovacevich, Chamber of Progress's (a group backed by Apple and Google) CEO. I was enjoying the ride Adam, until you included "Android" in the above sentence. A reminder to investors, a little extra jingle in your pocket, as a cash dividend payment of $0.22 per share is scheduled to be paid today.

This whole antitrust thing depresses me. It's like these lawmakers don't actually understand or use these products. I suspect the vast majority of people would still install the "apple sanctioned app store", if they are even allowed to have one.

A nice little spike. Why? Hon Hai/Foxconn? The Reuters report (on the stock app) is positive, with a 30% increase in profit for the quarter (April-June), a 20% revenue gain (had expected 15%), and expecting a 3-15% revenue gain in the 3rd Q, "and revenue from the consumer electronics division to rise more than 15% from a year earlier". Bloomberg, on the same thing, instead titles their story "IPhone Maker Predicts Slowing Gadget Sales Just as Holidays Loom" Is this a choose your own adventure book? Looking carefully at the wording, Reuters is looking YoY, whereas Bloomberg is finding negativity by looking at QoQ. I don't know how much lag there is in revenue for Foxconn, vs sales for Apple. I thought we were talking a month on average, which in this case would cancel out since they are reporting on the quarter ending about 1.5 months ago. Still, with Apple not giving forecasts, Foxconn saying "and revenue from the consumer electronics division to rise more than 15% from a year earlier" is something. Not crazy high. But also some support, especially nearly halfway into the Q, that minimizes some of the wall of worry type items of flutters in chip production drastically hitting Apple this Q. Nice AAPL!

This whole antitrust thing depresses me. It's like these lawmakers don't actually understand or use these products. I suspect the vast majority of people would still install the "apple sanctioned app store", if they are even allowed to have one. Elections have consequences. All of Tim Cook's lefty virtue signaling has bought him exactly zero credit in the bank with Democrats, and he's pissed off Republicans (and libertarians) so much with his censorship (and now privacy violations), that those who would be natural free marketers are all-in on antitrust. I am pretty absolutist on free markets, but I am finding it harder to make that case to fellow travelers when Apple has made it clear that it hates us. The feedback I get from other on my side of the aisle is, "yes I am anti-antitrust, but F*** Apple."
And Cook is an obvious phony with his Apple values BS. This Orwellian image scanning is outrageous and an obvious slippery slope. I will bet anyone $1000 that this trojan does not stop with kiddie porn. It always starts with "but it's for the children!". Then terrorism. Then money laundering. Then the IRS will want a peek at everyone's phone. Eventually it will sniff for politically undesirable memes. This is so outrageous and counter to everything that Cook has said in the past, I can only conclude that he has finally caved to pressure by Chinese and US law enforcement, and that the entire point of this image scanning is to gently nudge the camel's nose under the tent, in anticipation of further privacy invasions. Absolutely indefensible, even by a longtime stockholder and Apple evangelist like myself. I can no longer argue the privacy defense vis-a-vis Android.
Cook has been a total failure WRT brand evangelism. Can anyone here claim with a straight face that Apple is the beloved brand that it once was (sales don't count when both political parties want to break up your company)? I've never seen so much hostility toward the company.
Tim Apple, indeed.

Very thoughtful post JD ! Glad you are still here ! ! [eye roll] So I assume that you have divested all your stock, JD, or does personal gain out rank political considerations once again? In case you missed it, here is a more complete examination of the CSAM scanning initiative. Tough balance between protecting user privacy and attempting to thwart disgusting scum bags, but no one can say that Apple hasn’t put a great effort into striking a reasonable balance. Will it be successful on both fronts? We’ll see, but I for one give credit for tackling a tough problem in order to do some good.

Jd, apple doesn’t hate you- it isn’t personal. It hates hate itself.
Weird how a company trying to be seen to do, and largely doing, the tolerant inclusive environmental thing, can trigger so much bile. I guess it holds up a mirror.

Elections have consequences…since November 3rd. S&P500 +29.5% Nasdaq +28.5% DOW +27.4% I'm pretty sure there's been another global issue that has played a larger part in stock index increases than just a US election. I'd imagine voters or foreigners, no matter which side they voted for or preferred, would agree. Nice to see AAPL positive today. Maybe this is the start of a trend leading to the new iPhones? Volume is still sub-average, but I wouldn't mind seeing a trail of green for a couple weeks.

Nice to see AAPL positive today. Maybe this is the start of a trend leading to the new iPhones? Volume is still sub-average, but I wouldn't mind seeing a trail of green for a couple weeks. It's summer, half of wall street is on vacation. You won't see voume pick up until after labor day. That is the easy answer, but the 6 dates I have jotted down from July 7th until July 20th have volumes near or above 100M, with over 120M on both the 14th and 19th. It's more than just vacations, even if low volume lines up decently with "right after most schools get out and right before most schools start". But a cross reference with passenger flights, or even going higher end with helicopter flights out of NY or pool cleaning in the Hamptons (happen to know a Dad of a friend, so I'll have to ask sometime), could find something. Our post-4th week was busier than the week of the 4th, so locally that throws a wrench in it but that doesn't mean that all places acted that way this year. But it could also one up with risk on/risk off feelings for just a couple of the high frequency traders out there. Anyways, good to see some positiveness. Thanks AAPL!

Sure you can: www.apple.com/child-safety/pdf/Expanded_Protections_for_Children_Frequently_Asked_Questions.pdf"By design, this feature only applies to photos that the user chooses to upload to iCloud Photos, and even then Apple only learns about accounts that are storing collections of known CSAM images, and only the images that match to known CSAM. The system does not work for users who have iCloud Photos disabled. This feature does not work on your private iPhone photo library on the device."daringfireball.net/linked/2021/08/11/panzarino-neuenschwander-interview"…if iCloud Photos is not enabled no part of the system is functional." [my emphasis] Pretty straightforward, I think.

Elections have consequences…since November 3rd. S&P500 +29.5% Nasdaq +28.5% DOW +27.4% I’m pretty positive it wasn’t anything this administration did other than ride the economy the previous administration created and resurgence from lock downs. Not sure about the inflation equation but ending American independence from oil from which a multitude of products are made added a bit. Any other opinion which gives Biden credit is just pure bunk. Is your comment designed just to garner reaction or are you watching the American Pravda or hanging out on the internet where they tell you everything is just fine and believing the big lie where they say the 2020 election was the most secure in history. Lol If you still hate Trump after the shit show we’ve been living under for 6 months your commitment to stupidity is impressive. I will cease politics.
