Monday greetings AAPL Investors! The headlines: Apple Investor News, "always updating news stream”. As we wait for a new all-time AAPL high this week, I decided to take a look at the watch information on 's website here. I plan to upgrade from the series 4 to the series 7 upon release. So I was scrolling down the website until I reached the section "Use AR to see Apple Watch Series 6. Just open this page in Safari on your iPhone or iPad." I clicked on the "View in AR" and was impressed. I'm likely late to the party on this, and if you are too, I would suggest you give the AR view a spin. Alright, we are looking for a price above $150, in order to ring for the artman's services!

Never a straight line.
Disappointing. But expected.

China is still sinking without mercy. Stocks trading at 20% of what they were a few months ago. Huge gaps down. Time to buy now or soon. They don't go down forever. This should be a bad day for the QQQ etc. as the Afghan war draws to a close with the inevitable Viet Nam redux. This was know by people who lived through Viet Nam her moment the first troops landed. But the Neo Con nation builders just cant get that you don't build plants or democracies they come from the earth and souls of people. Not imposed. The HRC Obama one big victory in Tunisia I think is also unravelling. The best thing to do there is avoid the Mid East entirely.

Do you mean they are down 20%, or down 80%? I don't follow stocks in China, but one of the indexes that comes up first when searching for China on Yahoo is this index, which is down about 20% in the last few months, or 25% in the past 6. finance.yahoo.com/quote/MCHI?p=MCHIThat's a decent fall, but not crazy huge. And with how things are so tied and controlled by the government there (Fisher pointed out the interesting GDP pattern in a few of his books), it doesn't really seem it is enough to worry much about or attempt to utilize.

CWEB 110 to 19. CQQQ 108-65. NIO 66-38. YINN 30-12. These are leveraged ETFs some of them anyway. DIDI 18-8 since IPO. TAL falling off the charts at 95 no 5 or 6. There is a storm there. The financials are doing reasonably well there. These speculative stocks have high risk high reward. Financial don't.

Leveraged things, especially in a narrow market (that CWEB says it is "Direxion Daily CSI China Internet Index Bull 2X Shares") can do wonders, or lose lots. The same thing happens here in the US. Silver/Gold are already interesting trades, but then you can get 2x or even 3x leverage in ETFs. Instead, going with a small mining company, you can make a mint, or lose one. The one I was forced to follow was off 98%, though now is up 10x so that's only a lose of 80%, roughly from the very peak. Then again, it depends on how these indexes try to follow the market. We bought a small amount of USO back maybe 8-10 years ago, well off the peak oil price of something like $130, down maybe in the $80 range. The exacts don't matter. But the ETF imploded a little more than a year ago, when oil futures went negative for their monthly close. USO didn't lose it all, but it lost a lot and had to do a reverse split. Even with the recovery in oil, it's about a loss of 50%. Luckily it was just a small hedge for us that is trivial in comparison, but a 50% loss isn't something I really want. And half was in some retirement plans, so we don't even get to write it off. Luckily, AAPL is a much larger part of our portfolio, and has done great. There have been ups and downs, but more ups than downs. As said earlier today, it's never a straight line. Almost a 2.5T market cap today (according to Yahoo). Thanks AAPL!

There's that volume I was just asking about. Not to get too overly optimistic, but it seems like a run-up for the next 2 weeks, which would still likely be 2-3 weeks before an iPhone announcement, would fit in nicely with the "buy the rumor" type pre-announcement runs that AAPL often sees. My son just bought an SE, and my wife is ready for a 13. We also might be tempted by one or two watches.

And half was in some retirement plans, so we don't even get to write it off I bought some USO in 2007 (in the $40-50 range) because I believed energy prices were going up, and I wanted to "hedge" the increase in my energy costs over the next few years. I traded it (just a little, but still a few buys and a few sells) on and off until 2009. It is not a particularly good vehicle for that thing because of the way it operates (having to buy new futures every month or so, but taking a small loss most of the time). In the end, I had a net gain of about $3k, and an IRR of 11.7%, which ironically did hedge the increase in my energy costs for a few years. But it turns out that USO is a *terrible* instrument for most people because it sends you a K-1 (partnership form) and causes tax filing headaches. Not only that, but it sent me K-1s for a few years after I sold my last share due to the way it is structured. What a pain that was! I just bought my daughter a new MacBook Air ... what a beautiful, speedy, and battery efficient machine!

Apple Aims to Bring Back In-Store Classes as It Tiptoes Toward NormalcyI've never been to one of their in-store classes, but it might be time to change that. It's too easy to get into the habit of only using the features you know. Well actually, it's tough to use the ones you don't know of. Time to expand that toolbox. It's fun to upgrade from a hammer to a nail gun!

It's fun to upgrade from a hammer to a nail gun! I went to a few classes at the Soho NYC store. At the time, I got the sense that they were largely geared toward switchers and those without much or any Mac/iOS experience - i.e. very much "getting started" type stuff. Which isn't to say I was disappointed, it just wasn't what I was looking for exactly. Also, the seats were are little *too* comfy and there were definitely a few soniferous nappers taking full advantage . I'm sure the experience has improved since then, and hopefully they're offering more intermediate level classes for those of us with a bit of prior familiarity. Living in a country without an Apple store now I don't have much choice, but I'd certainly give it another try. Amazing day. I don't pretend to know why the winds of sentiment suddenly change after dropping more than 2%, but it sure does feel good.

Living in a country without an Apple store now I don't have much choice, but I'd certainly give it another try. Yea, that's what I would guess for many of the classes, but they also have a mix of at least slightly more advanced courses, like on Garageband instead of just getting to know the Mac. Sometimes things are easy to get started on, and Apple is known for that. I know I had fun learning iMovie on a day I was running a store demo back around '99 or '00. But other times it just isn't as intuitive, whether it's slightly more complex, or whether you are used to something different, like Excel instead of Numbers (or going way back, Keep It Simple Spreadsheet (KISS)). In this day and age, where a 5-10 minute youtube video could get you started on something that had a little bit of a learning hurdle, it might not be needed for many. OTOH, for some the extra hand holding or ability to ask questions instantly to a real person would make the in person course much more ideal. But we'll be doing a lot of driving right past our regional Apple store this school year, so I might need to try it out if they have some weekday courses that start early. We'll see. (Don't see any in Reno yet, and all virtual ones look pretty basic, but once available they should be at www.apple.com/today/calendar/?formats=in-store (which it says uses your IP temporarily during the session to estimate you location. FWIW, on air quality sites Purpleair.com figures your location, but not airnow.gov))
