Just about the only reason I still carry my wallet around is to have my driver license/ID with me. I live in New Zealand now but am allowed to use my US license. Hopefully this gains rapid adoption by most states and is rolled out internationally as well. And NZ is nearly a cashless society, so I use Apple Pay on my watch almost everywhere I go. If we can get passports as well, leaving the old wallet back at the house becomes a real possibility... EDIT: Wow, just reading some more on this at Daring Fireball: daringfireball.net/2021/09/initial_details_on_ids_in_apple_walletIt sounds like the ID in your Apple wallet will be "presented digitally through encrypted communication", so you don't need to show your device or hand over your iPhone to anyone.

Same in AU. Can't remember the last time I used a physical card or paid cash for something, Apple Pay is ubiquitous in AU.

I read the link, though it sounds like a minor issue/delay at this point. But in rereading, what do you mean by "Typical Apple marketing"? I'd probably say a typical Apple rumor, but maybe I'm not understanding.

I'd probably say a typical Apple rumor, but maybe I'm not understanding. I took it to mean the impression of scarcity often redounds to the benefit of Apple - by design or not. I happen to doubt the existence of such an evil genius at Apple, but I've never been one for conspiracy theories.

This makes it easy for Apple to create rumours that the media publishes without fact checking because they can't get Apple to comment. Now the Watch 7 is all over the news creating hype and if there is any kind of production problem it certainly won't affect the launch. In the end Apple always comes out the winner. www.cnbc.com/2021/08/31/new-apple-watch-production-reportedly-facing-delays-because-of-complicated-design.html"Apple declined to comment." Personally I'm really interested in this new "complicated design" that might be hard to find in stock, how about you?

Personally I'm really interested in this new "complicated design" that might be hard to find in stock, how about you? I'm sure at some levels Apple plays the media, though I don't know if it's a regular occurrence or just occasional. In my mind they'd have to in certain circumstances, like the hype about including satellite phone capabilities. Apple wants to at least hit expectations, or normally exceed them, so you wouldn't want a hyped up product that doesn't hit the mark. And if an incorrect/incomplete leak caused the problem, you can't necessarily wait around for another natural leak to correct the problem, especially if both leakers are considered to be on similar footing. Apple nearly always declines to comment, so that's not really an issue. But personally, if a new "complicated design" is said to be causing production problems, that's one time that I would be a little hesitant about running out and getting one immediately, even if they are hard to find. In general I think you might as well buy a new Apple product right away, since the pricing doesn't tend to change over the product cycle. But this sort of thing might hold me back a couple weeks or couple months. OTOH, I am looking forward to the new Apple Watch. Like the iPhone originally, we waiting a while, not really seeing the benefit of the functionality to us. I haven't worn a watch regularly in decades, and having one I need to charge up nightly seems annoying. But these days the watch portion of the Watch is nearly a side feature. It will be a fun product to have, even if we're still not completely sold on it but are instead considering it a thank-you gift from AAPL. Thanks AAPL

I bought season's tickets for the Mud Hens (AAA baseball team in Toledo, the farm club for the Detroit Tigers) with Apple Wallet. Love how it works. Apple Pay is gaining traction everywhere. Alas, still carry my wallet for places like Kroger or my local shoe repair shop.

I didn't read the article, but former ones were about the legal adoption of a driver's license stored on your iPhone, and it was mentioned here about the process of an electronic transfer of the info so you weren't handing over an unlocked iPhone. I try to use ApplePay everywhere I can, but sometimes I forget where we can use it and where we can't. Tonight we "splurged" and ordered a pizza, where it was exceptionally quiet since so many have left town. I thought I remembered using ApplePay there before, but when picking it up they said that they don't have touchless yet, so I had to use a normal credit card. Not a problem, but just different to remember who takes what. But it's not just about the money. There's the Driver's License (important this week, as some roads are blocked off for non-locals due to the fire and evacuations), but sometimes there are other similar things like IDs for other places (gym, city, etc). Library cards. Store loyalty cards. Gift cards. Like the Apple Watch, it's not just about the core functionality of a watch, or the wallet holding money. It extends a bit, if looking for a complete solution.
