I was in Costco yesterday and observed the new iMac and the previous generation side by side. It struck me that aesthetically, the new iMac looks klutzy in comparison to the clean lines of the beautiful silvery older version. I'm missing Jonny Ive (although for all I know, he might have designed the new computer as a consultant).

Our recently acquired silver iMac has a screen that has a silvery flat back, as opposed to our previous iMac which had a bulbous curved back. I like it.

I know about the flat back, but I like the thin edges of the older iMac and I never see the bulge because our living room mac is against a wall. I think what bothers me most about the new one is the white front edge that is about 1/2" wide, which shows up especially when the screen is dark. I also miss the Apple logo on the front. I guess I am a design snob with strong opinions. Sorry.

nice work Mav I'll take a '5.5k display' iMac +27" in a 'prosumer' colour. As much as I think the new iMacs are 'fun', the enclosure colours pop too much and that might be too much for a work context. Anyway, you mention number of cores: " and up to 8-core i9 chips reserved for the 16″ MacBook Pro and top-end CTO 27″ iMac (still on sale…for now)", I have a 10 core i9 in my iMac. I did spec my iMac up (apart from RAM) but would like more GPU performance onboard. Tried running Twinmotion(EPIC software!!) on my 10 core i9 with MD Radeon Pro 5700 XT 16 GB and it was super laggy - to the point of being unusable. Hopefully Apply silicone will fix this.

I...didn't know about the 10-core CTO option. Will edit, thanks!
