That's not great news, but it's tough to quantify. The article says 2 Foxconn campuses will be shut down for 2 weeks, then it says production is being relocated, but then later says it will affect a slew of tech companies, including Apple. Maybe the theory is that only part of the production will be offset. At the moment yahoo is showing the various index futures up a little. We'll see how they and AAPL do tomorrow, though these days things change so quickly you just never know, even hour by hour in the trading day. Fun times. Sometimes it's best to just step away for a while and do something else. (EDIT: CNN now has a story with a tiny bit more details. Closed for a week, but as would be expected, "date of factory resumption is to be advised by the local government." www.cnn.com/2022/03/14/tech/shenzhen-lockdown-foxconn-operations-intl-hnk/index.htmlIt would be interesting to know more about Apple's production and component lines, of how many regions they are spread over and so how much things like this matter. But really that's more of a curiosity, whereas I'm sure Apple does what they can to diversify, even within the country. With lines also in India, and both former and upcoming lines in the US (are any current lines in the US? Not too long ago the Pro level Macs were assembled here), there's also some variety there)

We'll see how they and AAPL do tomorrow, though these days things change so quickly you just never know, even hour by hour in the trading day. Fun times. Sometimes it's best to just step away for a while and do something else. Looks like things did as expected given the news. Volume is fairly normal on AAPL this morning, so not too many people took advantage of the 151 price. Looks like that price range was first hit on August 16th. aaplfinance.proboards.com/board/6/aapl-intraday-updates?page=3Given world worries, it's not terrible to be at a price first seen 8 months ago. I created a folder on the main page for discussing big on topic Macro Events. Posts about the war don't have to go there if they fit in with the daily thread. But it might be easier to have questions or discussion there that span multiple days. We're going to be a little stricter on moderating the board. You know what's should be here and what shouldn't, and that includes little side quips in a post. OTOH, while over at the proboards support pages, I found out about a politics board one of the admins who was asking questions runs. If you want to post politics, and don't have another place on the internet for that already, take a look at politicsforum.boards.net

Picked some up at $153 on 24th Feb, really surprised to see it back down here again.

We're going to be a little stricter on moderating the board. You know what's should be here and what shouldn't, and that includes little side quips in a post. I’m going to go ahead and apologize for the part I played in increasing your workload and making aaplsauce’s posts a little blander. I could have been more measured in my critique and less inflammatory.

Ugly, and it could get uglier. Hoping for a save from the Fed, but it's pretty cursed right now. If they're hawkish it's considered bad for the stock market, especially tech. But if they're dovish it will increase inflation worries and make people worry that Fed hawkishness will still be coming in the future.

But if they're dovish it will increase inflation worries and make people worry that Fed hawkishness will still be coming in the future. An option might be to hike the rate by a quarter, as already expected and priced in, but then mention that you are still looking at the various aspects as far as future hikes, and possibly even give a preference there such as that they might wait a little longer to hike. That won't happen in full, because rates do really need to come up a bit as part of the multi-pronged approach to slowing inflation to their target. But mentioning the aspects of current conditions, and that they have took them into account and will continue to, helps appease the masses when they want to yell out "You're raising rates now! But what about "x"" It's all a set up of expectations vs actions, giving the vision of a well thought out response while knowing that it won't satisfy everyone and doesn't cover every contributing aspect out there. But do it, while also helping suppliers supply and builders build, and though inflation will lag by a significant amount of time, it will come around.

That's probably what they'll do... but it's a tough spot to be in. They need to tamp down inflation without killing the stock market...

That's probably what they'll do... but it's a tough spot to be in. They need to tamp down inflation without killing the stock market... Gas and food are going up much more quickly than incomes, especially fixed incomes. Inflation with decreased spending? Clearly most folks have less to spend today that several months ago.

Good on the moderation change. And thanks for the politics link. I hope that the members whose primary purpose here is political head over there and respect the mandate of this place.

One day does not make a trend, but it's a start. FWIW, the admin was there lamenting having started what I understand was another board, about covid, where she wasn't happy the way that things were going while still attempting to keep it on track. And she was wondering if she should have ever started it. So it's not just us. But we have a clear focus on AAPL, Apple, and Finances, so it's just slightly easier to attempt to keep things separate. Thanks everyone, for doing your part with keeping this board on track!
