It's interesting how the world changes. Lately, perhaps the last 2 years or so, I don't carry my wallet with me everywhere. For example, when I go to the gym or to the pool, I take my phone and my driver's license with me, and that's it. And I do quite often stop at a supermarket in one direction (going to or leaving) to combine trips. I still carry my wallet to most other things (to general shopping, to movies, to sporting events, etc). BUT, my two youngest kids (in high school) don't even have a wallet. They have their phone, with a little pouch stuck to their phone case, with their driver's license/permit inside that pouch. And that is all they ever carry with them. And they make plenty of purchases, I know because I get the credit card bills.

Relevant to the recent posts about Taiwan risks, a fascinating CNBC video on how ASML's photo-lithography machines work. Who knew they vaporized liquid tin droplets with UV lasers? Inside ASML, the wildly successful company that every advanced chipmaker relies oniPhone 13/A15 (and presumably all Mx) uses the EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography).
Interesting that the PT process is essentially a variation of the same that Intel first used 50 years ago. Gordon Moore used paraffin wax as one of the first photo resist materials, working in a repurposed, dirty Quonset hut, before they started using "bunny suits" and clean rooms. Seems that the semi industry and the US have gotten the message about globalization risks to this all-important industry. ASML has factories outside of China, and obviously has contingency plans for a Taiwan invasion. Also good to see the lame-o's in DC actually looking ahead for a change on silicon strategy (instead of the usual circular firing squads). I guess since foundries are mostly automated, not a lot of staff expenses, so they can build them in the US (with large subsidies).
But I think Blackrock's Larry Fink is (as usual) full of it; globalization is profitable so it isn't going anywhere. People still buy Greek bonds. Not to mention, NFT's. Maybe just don't put key industries exclusively inside of (or within invasion range of) our geopolitical foes and rivals.
Speaking of resist, I am hesitant to buy a stock in a company (e.g., Intel) that has an ever-increasing cost of manufacture with the express purpose of making a cheaper and cheaper product (transistors). I do hold some TSM, just because.

If you like dividends RIO is a good one. They were involved in this as well. They started selling their coal mines to china years ago. Forward looking.

Apple is very strong and has held up during the Ukraine viral inflation storm. Are we truly going up and over the bear or? Friday's gave way to short covering with down days mondays recently, we will see if this continues.

Wow! 24 points in 9 trading days, from the low to the high. This sure is changing quickly. finance.yahoo.com/quote/AAPL/history?p=AAPLAAPL just barely edged out the nasdaq today, so there are a lot of others doing well too.
