I want a lock like my Tesla has. When I walk up to the door, it is open for me, when I walk away it locks for everyone else. I think it uses BT LE (BlueTooth Low Energy) for communication. I don't even want to hold my phone or watch up to a pad!
I do however worry about one aspect of these things on the phone (not so much on the watch because it remains on my wrist 23 hours a day). If someone swipes my phone, they can simply drive away with my car AND "be me" as far as the car is concerned. So they can enter the car, drive away, route to "home", and open my door with my phone that they swiped!

I don't know how essential this new Schlage tech is. I have the older version where you have to either enter a code, or tap the Schlage or Home app to open and close the lock. For me, it's quicker to enter a 4 digit code than to pull my phone out of my pocket. (I guess I could just side up to the door and put my hip against the lock). And mine auto locks after 60 seconds. Maybe with the watch it is quicker, but I don't usually have my Apple Watch on. I wonder if they waterproofed the lock. The older model definitely is not. The main thing for me is not having to carry my keys when I go on my daily hikes. Or I could unlock remotely for a relative or a house guest. Note that I also have my garage door opener (MyQ) controlled via an app. This is useful for entry when I am not in my car. The LQ app is for my washer and dryer.
The Auber app is for a controller for my smoker. My Masterbuilt smoker's control unit died, so I rewired it to always on, and use the Auber controller to keep it at the right temps. If there is a better smell than smoking a pork butt, it can only be smoking a pork butt simultaneously with some part of a cow. The Wyze app is on the home screen.

I use old tech. I tap a button on my sun visor, drive into the garage, get out of my car, press a button on the wall, open door and walk in the house. I don't need a phone or a key.

We have Wyze for a couple cameras, and a Thermostat app for a Honeywell one, though we really only use that when we go away for a while and want to fire things up before we get home. I was tempted by the add-on unit for the garage door, but didn't really have a good use case for it. Same with the door lock, since we have a garage door opener keypad for the times we need to let someone in when we aren't around. Smart features on that would be helpful, though most let you manually set up temporary numbers, so with contractors working on our 2nd house we could set up a code to work for the week, instead of leaving a key. We really couldn't come up with a need for a "smart" washer/dryer, as it seemed all it would do is let you do a more customized delayed start, or let you know things are done. But it has a USB based port to add that. OTOH, we paid the extra $50-100 for the steam drying option...and have never used it. The use cases on these things are interesting. Some have good uses, at least for some people. Others are mostly just a marketing thing, or an upsale.

Having varied security would take care of this. In the story, you had to do an extra step to set the iPhone up to be able to unlock the deadbolt without needing to unlock the iPhone. Use cases always vary. On my F150, it has a number pad on the door in addition to the key and remote. The key/remote for it is about $300 to replace, so if I am going out on the water I leave the key in the truck, and just use the keypad to get in. The downside of this is that if someone broke into the truck, and found the key, they could drive away with it. While this isn't much of an issue here, it still could be. That truck still requires the key, unlike higher levels that have a push button start. OTOH, the new Sienna has a remote like the Tesla, allowing me to just open the door (it unlocks right that instant), or toe-kick sensors on the 2 sliders and rear. It doesn't auto-lock on leaving, or I just don't have that set up yet (there are tons of settings...I finally just turned off the "check the backseat for children" warning). But we're actually looking at the manual to find some tips and tricks, and it turns out there's a spot on the door handle that you pinch and that locks the minivan. FWIW, the sales person thought that remote was $500 to replace. Like the washer, it doesn't seem like all use cases are well thought out. All of our washers in the past have had the option to just do a spin and drain for the occasions that something didn't drain enough, but this one's option is "rinse and spin", adding more water to the situation. For the minivan, we get a "warning" every time we start going in the morning, letting us know that there might be ice since it is 37 or lower. It could be handy to some, but with lows of this likely 6 months of the year, I don't need the reminder every time I start the vehicle up. Hopefully there is an option to turn that off, but hunting for 15 minutes while waiting for takeout, I couldn't find it. Time to look in the manual! Back to the door locks, there is a time where I just want a simple one. The schlage one has that, of still working with a key. Personally on the cars, I'd like a valet key that has limited options, but is also simple. With chipped keys it's never going to be as simple as in the old days of just a metal key, like the low cost metal key and whistle on the keychain for my old 4runner that I can just clip to my life vest and not worry about. But even a sealed chipped key would be nearly waterproof and nearly indestructible, for an easy choice to take while paddle boarding where a rouge wave can take you down, instead of bringing a dry bag with me.

For sure, not essential, but I am waiting for the new one for two main reasons.
1. Thread network support. This means way longer battery life, and a super reliable and fast connection. I already have a Thread network running with Smart bulbs.
2. Unlocking with my Apple Watch, which I always have on.
It will nice not to carry house keys around.
