Oh goodie, because when I think of cutting edge new world innovation, I think of the EU. Related (since we are talking about government shakedowns), Apple spent more than it ever has on lobbying as antitrust threats loomI was hoping it was more money than this. I sure hope Apple is bribing lobbying both sides of the aisle, because we are <7 months away from a Red Wave big change in DC.

I guess consumers are just lucky that Apple still includes a USB to lightning cable, since most people should have one by now. I understand the point, but I wish Apple met somewhere in the middle on this one, by making the adapters inexpensive, or giving a coupon or credit for a discounted one. With Apple switching the cables over to USB-C, and also allowing fast charging, the reasoning of "everyone has plenty of spare USB AC plugs by now" just doesn't match the need. We were using the old ones until my son bought an Apple Watch. Instead of paying $15-20 for an Apple AC USB-C plug, we bought a 3 pack for $10-12. But now charging 4 iPhones, a Watch, and occasionally an iPad, we are close to needing a big multiport thing. And of course the built in plugs are tempting. In the past the "always on" solution seemed bad, but these days we leave our plugs in all the time. At one point Apple talked about how much more efficient its plugs were than the standard ones, but that was probably at least 5 years back, and maybe even 8-10. It was nice seeing AAPL up 2% when I started this. At least AAPL is still in the green, while most things aren't.

Come on JD, you can do better than that. If you have to cross out words to be cute, while knowing they shouldn't be here, just leave them out.

Powell says a half point increase is on the table for MayOf course a half point is on the table, and talking it up gives it an effective action in many situations, even if they don't raise it that much. It's impressive that a quarter point increase, and talks of all the potential increases over the coming 1-3 years, has been enough to raise mortgage interest rates up 1.5% to over 5%. But, at least in some markets, instead of putting the damper on real estate it seems to be speeding up some to purchase before further increases happen. I'd prefer the Fed do increases at a quarter point per time, while testing their skill at obtaining a soft landing. But if there is going to be a half point increase sometime, early in the cycle is the time. We got a decent late season storm, with 10" of wet heavy snow so far. But back into the mid-50's in a couple days. Not the best for the now-crushed daffodils, but at this point we need all the moisture we can get.

It's true; Apple is facing a more hostile congress than the current one in 2022. So they had better get their checkbooks out. I don't censor myself, and have no intention of doing so. Does Elon Musk have to buy Proboards too?!

Very negative day across the board. Started off good, like a seasonal rally into earnings. But world politics plays a role. Clearly Biden wants to be a war time leader as the domestic agenda hasn't galvanized the public. The inflation was a result of the increased demand due to 600 a week being given to people who were not making that much and were young. This discouraged actual scrounging for work. Many folks on SS make less than that. The money kept the economy going but this is the price. GOOG looks like either a tripple bottom in Bear Market territory with a 20+ % decline or crashing through to new lows. Earnings are going to tell the story. Hopefully Apple, MSFT and GOOG will deliver. Looks like TSLA goes into Fang and Netflix is just a competitor to Disney.

I had a small position in AT&T earlier where I received a stake in WBD Warner Brothers Discovery after the split off. WBD has taken a streaming hit along with Netflix so I sold off that and bought more T which has jumped a bit lately. Bought AT&T years ago purely for dividend play although the yield is back to reality around 6% instead of where it was hanging before the WBD split off.

Coordinated effort from Fed leaders to talk down the market. It goes up, they slap it down.

I really don't know how 4aapl could have been more diplomatic than he already was...he didn't *remove* your post, he just asked you to be more considerate of the guidelines that all the rest of us follow. Those basic, simple-to-understand, AFB guidelines are right there at the bottom of all of his posts: 1. We have the choice to build this board up, or tear it down. Make the right choice, or don't post here.2. To All: Keep non-Apple SPECIFIC political stuff out of the daily thread. Thanks to name-calling and a lack of discussion, it's no longer allowed in the Dungeon either. This board will not survive if members are free to tell the moderators, " I don't censor myself, and have no intention of doing so."

Cult of Mac has Study shows consumers love Apple third-best among brands. There were two surprises on the list for me. I don’t think of YouTube as a brand, but that is likely due to the fact that I almost never interact with it unless directed there by a third party. For example, I could not name a competitor, and perhaps that is precisely why they made the list. But I never think to myself “Hmm, I wonder what’s on YouTube today.” I feel almost exactly the same about Android, other than the fact they power just about all of the iPhone’s competitors. But do people actually choose non-Apple phones because they are Android fans? I tend to think that people have an attachment to the phone maker brand, or an antipathy to Apple for some reason, and it just so happens that Android totally dominates the non-Apple brands.

Does Elon Musk have to buy Proboards too?! Thanks for the reply. Of course the funny part is that you actually did censor yourself. I could do a overbearing cute reply, but what's the point really? Some people, including myself, generally enjoy your posts here. But while you might manage to mostly only push the grey line a bit, some posters have more trouble seeing the middle ground, and then reply in only black or white. Let's keep politics when not needed out of the threads, so that the times when they really are on topic we can manage to discuss them in a civilized manner. For those concerned about this, yes we can delete posts, though we'll generally move them. Personally I believe in giving people a little bit of slack occasionally, but one could also interpret that as giving them enough rope. Take it as you will. On a separate note, it's been pretty quiet here lately. AppleSauce and Chinacat have gone out of their way to open the daily thread and post a variety of links every day. Let's see some discussion about these things, or others. Even in Apple's quiet period, which we are in now, there are plenty of things to talk about. If none of the links interest you, post a thought or question. This board is what we make it, and if we don't post anything it just slowly dies. But we have roughly 40 users and admins checking in each pay, plus around 260 guests to make a total of roughly 300 people a day. If we all strived to make at least one post a week, we'd have around 40 posts a day. That might be pushing it, but let's see if we can get 20 on-topic posts a day. Thanks everyone!
