Thank you to all the regular posters. Especially when the market is down, the yahoo finances and CNNs are over run with crazy stories that are usually exaggerated. I look forward to coming here for, I’m not sure of the right word(s); stable, sane, sage, sound posts. Reading the TA from the same people for a decade or so is nice even if I don’t practice it or fully understand it. You all seem to grasp things that seem deeper than what I practice such as options, TA, RSI etc. I’m a buy and hold investor. I just try to get close to what I think a bottom may be and average in more around there. That’s served well. So I don’t usually feel I have much to add about investing but have been slacking at answering some of 4aapl’s product question prompts. I’m using almost all the Apple products and truly feel it’s made life better (Apple Watch health tracking, etc). Thanks again to the posters for creating somewhere to come and read when times are crazy.

I was surprised with how low Apple's Battery Replacement prices are. I guess I had only looked at screens before, where Apple was charging close to and beyond $200, when well rated screens on Amazon were $30 or less. A friend is wanting to know about replacing the battery on her 8+. At $49 to have Apple do it, I wouldn't touch it or send her to another place. But I also get a kick out of learning about how these things work, having a little bit of challenge. The iPhone is pretty straightforward in realizing the issue, and so isn't the best test of this. Still, even with watching a video stepping through it, it's one of those "I can do that", even if in the future I choose to have someone else do it. FWIW, I wouldn't recommend it to people that haven't messed around with the insides of small electronics before. Like lock picking, there's a difference between watching a video and understanding how it works, to actually having the sensitivity/dexterity/control to latch/unlatch these tiny parts. And then there is the whole vision thing, which I have to admit that while I am doing ok, it's not the same as when I was younger, especially the focus on very close things. At the same time, if an older iPhone is to the value where it wouldn't make sense to have someone else do it, what's the downside? My old 5S was that way, worth say $80 while I was holding out for the next version, but having shutdown issues due to the battery even when 50 outside. It's not for everyone. But Apple is now making it easier to do, and easier to use OEM parts.

I created a new area called "Splurges". aaplfinance.proboards.com/board/17/splurgesI'm curious of what people have bought when they splurged a little, especially when in retrospect it was well worth it, but also if it wasn't. Apple devices (Apple Watch, fancier Mac than they really "needed", etc), other fancy devices (automation, etc) or even that superstitious subject, cars. Other things fit too, like trips. Ideally when we splurge a bit, it's worth it. This is a way to spread what has been worth it, or also what hasn't.
