Good morning. It’s Memorial Day. This is the day that we stop what we would normally be doing on a Monday and remember those that have given the ultimate sacrifice of their own freedom and lives so that we can enjoy ours. Evil comes seeking to steal, destroy and enslave. Throughout history there are those that have stood in the breach looks evil in the eye and said that you shall not pass. People that have heard the call, from every walk of life, and stepped up to do that which was needed. “Saving Private Ryan” staring Tom Hanks, may be one of the best depictions of this. Toward the end of the movie, the dying Tom Hanks character commands Private Ryan to earn the gift that has been given him. An impossible task other than to remember and to give thanks. So on this day, no matter if we spend time with family or friends, or if we are spending it alone, at some point raise your glass in a toast or bend your head in a prayer and give thanks for a gift we did not earn and can not repay. For Freedom is never Free.

WWDC. Apple Neural Engine discussion and speculation. eclecticlight.co/2022/05/29/last-week-on-my-mac-watch-the-ane/"When designing chips like the M1, silicon is a costly investment. You don’t add a novel system like the ANE on a whim. Its presence in iPhones, iPads and M1 Macs means that Apple intends doing a great deal with it: it has to earn its keep and pay its rent on the chip.
"Other than running neural networks for ML, there’s a great deal more that the ANE is capable of. Whether it has a role in future developments in Augmented Reality, or more extensive ML features, we can only speculate. But if I had to put my money anywhere, it would be on the ANE working harder in the coming months and years, to our advantage. That’s what I’m going to be watching for at WWDC this year."Now, me too. (Maybe don't go down the rabbit hole following that link to Scoble's Twitter thread. I did. While fun, and he's enthusiastic about WWDC, I'm now set up to be disappointed.)
